actually this is similar to 3-2 in other ways in that Phoenix and Ryunosuke are both arguing from things they know aren't true (the identity of Mask*DeMasque and the possibility of instantaneous kinesis, respectively), but since the court currently accepts them as facts, they use them to their advantage

Harebrayne is so great. There probably hasn't been a defendant so damaging to his own case (who isn't trying to intentionally take the fall for someone else, that is) since Ron DeLite.

The approach van Zieks takes to this case is really interesting. He's claiming his friend deliberately murdered Billy Gunn...but since he claims the experiment was a success in the process, it ensures his device will be protected under the new act and won't have to be divulged to the public or be torn apart by a police investigation.

Certainly an odd way to deal with your friend, but it's honestly probably in keeping with Harebrayne's wishes since all he really cares about is making sure his device is preserved. He's willing to be punished for Asman's death, even if he insists it wasn't intentional.

Oh right, Moriarty, who became more famous because of adaptations than his actual roles in the stories, but you're probably right. I think I'd argue Lestrade is more well known than Irene Adler, but that's a fairly clear top 5.

Huh, this is the first detective story reference I've found that isn't from Holmes. The killer policeman, Ottermole, is actually from a Thomas Burke story called "The Hands of Mr. Ottermole." I've never read it, but I had to look it up since I assumed it was a reference to something!

John Clay is a Holmes reference to the story called "The Red-Headed League," although he is a criminal, not a policeman. His accomplice went by the alias Duncan Ross, for the record.

One of these days, I should do a location ranking for the series.

"There's a saying in Japan: the darkest spot is right under the lighthouse."

I feel like Godot used this saying in 3-5 to explain why Maya wouldn't have been able to see her attacker, although he didn't say it quite like that. It was something like, "Under the lighthouse, darkness reigns" or something similar.

You'd be correct in that regard. 6-3 is about 2.5 hours longer than 3-3, but I think the Takumi games have more back and forth between its characters than the non-Takumi games, which tend to be longer in terms of time but not that much different in terms of line counts. The GAA cases have bigger casts because of stuff like the jury, so it's going to inflate line counts. I don't think G1-5 is going to time out longer than 1-5, 2-4, or 3-5 even though it beat them out in line counts.

I'm no scientist so maybe I'm completely off-base, but wouldn't breaking someone apart at the molecular level kill them, even if you put them back together immediately afterwards?

I mean, I get that the machine doesn't actually work, just speaking hypothetically here.

Whew, G2-2 complete! Good case. Definitely a wild ride. It's interesting to have a character only named Selden because it's rare for characters in the series not to have a given name and a surname. For what it's worth, Selden is the name of a character in The Hound of the Baskervilles, so it's an appropriate choice here.

Have you seen the fan translation of what he said at the start of the trial?

I'm sure I have, but I don't remember.

Also, day laborer juror might be Victor Kudo's ancestor, talking about how he drinks his wife's coffee, no matter what she puts in it, because it's only proper.

Either that, or his wife is Viola's ancestor.

I like how the game kind of drops hints when you're moving locations that there's something new for you somewhere. Whenever Susato says, "We haven't visited this place in some time, have we?" it means there's something there for you to do. Keeps you from feeling hopelessly lost like you would at times in AA. She also says "We haven't done everything we came here for, have we?" if there's still more to do if you try to leave.

Nah, I wouldn't expect any sort of time skip for AA7. Phoenix is the series' bread and butter, so I don't think he's going away quite yet. I think he'll get a proper sendoff because we all saw what happened when they botched that the first time.

plus we still need that Gumshoe cameo

Oh, I don't think Apollo is done, but I think he assumes an Edgeworth-esque role as a guy who only shows up for epic cases.

And I want a proper Phoenix/Trucy case more than anything. 5-4 is as close as we got, but it doesn't totally count since she wasn't around for the trial.
