It's difficult to retain much appreciation for Balthier when FF12 cares so little about it's own plot. The game barely feels like it has cutscenes in the last 1/3.

yeah but when it has them Balthier is pretty great in them

it helps that Dr. Cid is the best part of the last third and Balthier is closely connected to him

Believe it or not, I'm actually trying to say these things for your benefit. You talk about people siding with arguments based on attitude, but attitude does matter, whether you like it or not. Timing matters, too, if you actually want to have a fruitful discussion that goes somewhere. There's more to a discussion than just being right.

There will be a time and place where this discussion can be productively had. You're not hearing me sing the praises of Allen beyond me thanking him for the years he gave to this site. I do think he cared about this site regardless of the quality of the job he did, and I'm recognizing that. I don't think he wanted it to end this way.

"Uncatchable" seems to have stopped being a thing years ago, for whatever the reason. You rarely see refs wave off DPI because of that anymore.

gaslighting would be trying to manipulate you into thinking the problems you suffered were your fault, which I guess in this case would be saying that you're the reason this site is dying, not Allen

I think you should move on because you've been on reruns for quite a while now. We're just arguing in circles at this point, but if you feel the need to continue to shout into the aether just because you can and nobody is going to stop you, then don't be surprised that no one actually wants to listen to you. technically Liquid is associated with modern MGS because he's Eli in MGSV, but maybe somehow he lucked out again in that people don't associate the punk kid with Liquid. If he's not Cam Clarke shouting chewing the scenery or Ocelot's arm, it's not Liquid, I guess!

But I don't care whether you're right, and I stopped caring hundreds of posts ago. If all you want is to be right, then keep at it. If you want people to care that you're right, then I'd suggest waiting for a time and place when people are actually ready to have that discussion of how much of this is Allen's fault, but it ain't right now. People want to be bummed out, reminisce about better times, etc. They don't want to be angry and blame somebody for it, not yet anyway.

By the end of the series, sure. But that's not how you're supposed to feel until then.

Which is why the twist that he is the real mastermind turns out to be so great because Ocelot duped everyone (including himself to a degree) into thinking this was Liquid's plot so that Zero would never suspect it was actually him.

So SD's anime topic inspired me to do a School Rumble rewatch, and I figured this would be something I could watch when my wife wasn't around since I assumed she wouldn't be into it. Well, she walked in on me watching an episode and she got interested, and now I think she's hooked. She still has to ask me who characters are sometimes since the cast is so big, but she's having fun. I don't have the heart to tell her how this ends (or doesn't end, however you choose to look at it).

Also still think I prefer OP2 to OP1, but they're both bangers.

Curious to see how this one would go today. Shepard would've easily gotten 2nd in the height of Mass Effect, but now it's hard to say.

Playing some more Trails Into Reverie. Played through C's Route Act 2 up until the forced stopping point. The chemistry between these four is pretty fantastic. Nidia and Swin are supposed to be the characters from the books in Cold Steel IV, right? Three and Nine, right? Swin's S-Craft being Three of Swords feels like a pretty big hint.

I switched to Lloyd's Route Act 2 after that. I looked through my items and realized I hadn't used those Azure Droplets (which are basically instant level ups). Did you guys just use those right away (if you had them) or did you save them for later?

Cecil would win that one pretty easily, unfortunately. Cecil has some embarrassing losses but nothing like a virtual 3-way tie with Laharl and Hogger.
