Basically, Thawne was a big fan of the Flash in the distant future, and a scientist, who went out to replicate the experiment that gave him his speed. He eagerly traveled back in time to present day (technically his first time he arrived after Crisis on Infinite Earths). He went to the Flash Museum when he arrived, and made a discovery: Flashs worst enemy was known to be Reverse-Flash, but in the future his name was lost to history. In the present it was well known Thawne himself. Not only that, Reverse-Flash was so terrible that he was the only rogue that Barry ever had to kill.
