| JKwaffle 07/26/21 4:50:40 PM #1 | Now don't get me wrong: I think there's a lot of really cool ideas in it, some cool scenes and moments, etc. The cast is pretty fucking dope too. I do think it could have been a fantastic sci-fi horror if the studio hadn't gutted it of most it's really gory, fucked up scenes, and the movie suffers greatly from that gutting. That said, I think the only reason genre fans defend it so heavily nowadays is purely out of such a slim number of truly good sci-fi horror films to choose from. Especially ones that actually go truly gory. So I get it, especially as a fan of the genre, but it just doesn't hold up IMO. Overall, I think it's a sci-fi horror that had a lot of potential, but got irreparably damaged by studio meddling, and if I'm gonna rewatch a sci-fi horror movie, I'm far more likely to hit up Alien, The Thing, Annihilation, Sunshine, hell, probably even Slither if I'm being honest. I'd absolutely love a remake done well though; it has a fuck ton of cool ideas that I'd love to see someone go all the way with.
