Is this directly from the virus? Or is it "coronavirus-related?" Can that even be discerned?

Over time? 100%

For specific situations it is otherwise dependent on multiple factors such as mask wearing and the ability of the air you are in to circulate and refresh with clean air.

But if the chances of catching it are 100%, isn't that 0.15% rate just for mortality?

For further context, ~0.15% of the US population has been killed by Covid. Obviously, given the variation in risk level between different demographics, treating that as a blanket "chance for every American to die of Covid" isn't altogether accurate, but that's still a 200-fold difference (and that's pretending that 0.0007% is actually a mortality rate and not just morbidity).

That's assuming I catch the virus. I have a... let's call it "high" chance of dying if I catch corona. But how likely am I to catch corona? I haven't caught it yet.

Even if it were instantly fatal, that's still just 0.0007% mortality vs 1.8% mortality from COVID (or higher, depending on your country). And that doesn't include the myriad possible complications from COVID, like thrombosis, ARDS, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, liver injury, stroke, encephalitis, fungal infections, and Long COVID, which afflicts 10-20% of COVID patients.

But can I avoid corona? If I get the vaccine, that's it, I'm exposed to the vaccine. Now it's a matter of whether or not I suffer the complications.

But corona, I might dodge that entirely for the rest of my life. I've dodged it so far, despite a number of scares I always test negative. Maybe I just won't catch it.

The risk of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome after receiving the Janssen vaccine is 7 per 1 million women aged 18-49. It's even rarer for men and women over 50. Keep in mind this is a serious but not necessarily fatal complication.

The mortality rate for COVID-19 is 1.8% in the US, and 2.4% in the UK. That means 18 out of every 1000 US patients will die from the disease.

18,000 people out of 1 million infected will die from COVID in the US, while just 7 out of 1 million will experience a potentially serious side effect from the vaccine.

Thrombosis? No, that is no small deal. I'm not gonna look at that and say "Psh, it's just thrombosis."

Living in a place with no seasons except summer I don't really get excited for winter and fall holidays anymore. They don't feel the same as when I was growing up.

It's important to stay in tune with the season no matter where you live. For instance, Dallas is about as hot as it gets for a lot of people. Well into October you might see no leaf change. And yet, this is what Dallas becomes during the Halloween season.

I wouldn't call that a "Halloween" feeling, though.

It's like saying that when summer "begins" in the beginning of June it's a 4th of July feeling (it is not).

It kinda is though, you go to a seasonal aisle when summer kicks off, it's rife with reds and whites and blues. 4th of July is the Christmas of summer.

As far as I'm concerned, Halloween is two months long starting in September.

I compare it to Christmas. Christmas/New Year's is often lumped in with Thanksgiving. It's generally accepted that you start the "Christmas season" starting in November. And if you really love Christmas, earlier than that.

Therefore, the same should apply to Halloween. Starting in September, or even earlier if you really love fall/Halloween.

When does the shift from summer to autumn/Halloween begin for you?

Some months have a feel. Some months don't. Some months are just "nothing months." Some people endure. Accept the nothing month for what it is. Other people take a nothing month and say "If nothing's going on, I'm taking this time to at least pre-game for whatever the next season/mood/vibe is." Even if you haven't seen this Sarah's Scribbles comic, you've heard of people who take the "empty parking lot" that is August and use it as a time to look forward to the dark times.

But what is August to you? And when does fall or the Halloween season or whatever name you wanna give it, begin from your perspective?

I'm up with the worms right now and there are two separate Smash subreddits I could talk about Smash on, whose activity now dwarfs GameFAQs at present.

https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/
https://www.reddit.com/r/SmashBrosUltimate/

Neither one has been good for discussion, especially for me. But the fact that this is where all the people go now would suggest that it is good for discussion. Somehow I get more done on a site as dead as GameFAQs. How? Because GameFAQs is simply built better for this kind of thing.

The layout is customizable, and there are several subs and communities where all people do is have discussions with each other

The majority of these subreddits have devolved into just posting memes. Because Reddit, while the best place we have for long form discussion, isn't exactly good for long form discussion. It's content-driven, so it's not discussion that rises to the top, it's whatever content people like best. Funny pictures & videos. Any place where discussion is happening, the population is so scarce that discussion is pretty much impossible.

Sneaky subliminal subterfuge, not including Christmas. I wanted to pick Christmas. But it wasn't on the list. And if I was more easily influenced, I wouldn't have picked "Other." I would've immediately gone for "Okay what's the next best thing on the list?"

Nah, I want Christmas. Thanksgiving and New Year's are essentially partner holidays to Christmas. And Halloween is like the crazy uncle. By having Christmas, you essentially have all holidays, because Christmas is the concentrated essence of a holiday season itself.

It's a broken website. Constantly going down, constantly malfunctioning, but it's more or less the go-to website for long form discussion.

I think this is reflective of a larger issue with today's Internet. Malfunctions & downtime are way more par for the course now than they used to be. GameFAQs went down when Sonic was announced for Brawl, and that was exceptional. Reddit goes down once a month and we're like "Well, that's just Reddit, one of the biggest websites on the Internet, that's just acceptable functionality for Reddit."

What site in 2008 was as big as Reddit is today? We wouldn't have put up with that site being that bad back then. But we put up with it today because tech is now so big, there's nowhere to go. What're you gonna do? Go to Ruqqus? That's what they said about Voat. And now look at what's become of Voat.

I wouldn't call Reddit a forum. If you're Reddit famous, you're famous for one very popular thread. The subreddits have no "community" like a forum does. Everyone blends in. And Reddit knows this, that's why they recently started letting people have avatars/create their own Snoo. Which is still a futile effort because Reddit simply isn't designed like a forum. It's designed around content, not community or discussion.

By which I mean April has the most registered users earn the Loyalist badge. "Sticky" being a term used for how well a website retains long periods of use out of its users. In April more than any other month so far, people were coming on every day, not missing a moment.

January: 21,546
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com./user.php?db=.8.user=%21/badges/64

February: 34,305
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com./user.php?db=.8.user=%21/badges/65

March: 33,732
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com./user.php?db=.8.user=%21/badges/66

April: 35,991
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com./user.php?db=.8.user=%21/badges/67

May: 33,372
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com./user.php?db=.8.user=%21/badges/68

June: 34,017
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com./user.php?db=.8.user=%21/badges/69

July: 22,440
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com./user.php?db=.8.user=%21/badges/70

August: 21,939

September: 22,820

November: 22,093

December: 21,479
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com./user.php?db=.8.user=%21/badges/75

Now, you might be thinking this count isn't complete. We have to wait for the rest of the year to play out. In fact, I'm pretty sure we'll have to wait for the January 2022 count to come in. I'm pretty sure GameFAQs only started officially counting this in the February of some year, and the months in the 20,000s are waiting for the current GameFAQs userbase to roll around on them.

But so far it's April. Probably because it's a 30-day month, easier to earn than the 31-day months. But I wonder why June, also a 30-day month, couldn't match April? What were people doing in June that they couldn't come on GameFAQs every day, despite coming on every day in larger numbers in April?
