Basically, some people think that victims shown in crises footage (like school shootings) are hired actors and faked by the media.

It happened with Sandy Hook, and it's happening with the recent shooting now.

JRPGs were once my favorite genre, but I've tried playing newer turn-based games in recent years, and I just have trouble getting into them. I've tried really hard to like Bravely Default and Persona, but it really feels unintentionally retro. The battles really slows things down, and the random battles messes up the flow of gameplay.

The combat in games has gotten complex and well-developed enough that we don't need this style anymore for triple-A games. And having more real time action elements doesn't dumb it down either. For games going for an old-school style, it's fine though, but leave turn-based battles with retro nostalgic titles

Great concept and I loved how it forced me to be resourceful, but a little too severe in execution. Give weapons about double their existing durability across the board and it would have been perfect imo.

I think that's what they were going for. You're basically living off the land for much of the game, and it's basically having you use whatever you can get. Which is cool for a smaller scale game (again, like the Condemned games, or Dead Island), but I just don't know if it works for an open world game, especially as weak as they are. Having weapons become damaged is one thing, but having nearly EVERY weapon break after a few uses without the ability to repair just makes no sense.

Absolutely love it so far, but this part is just so unusual. The weapons are as durable as the weapons in Condemned and permanently break after literally a few enemies. I always try to go with one handed sword+shield in games, but I have to get used to wielding whatever I can pick up.

I know there's no shortage of weapons, but it's just such a weird aspect.

http://metro.co.uk/2018/01/11/splatoon-2-first-game-hit-2-million-sales-japan-decade-7221176/

With anticipation for the first Nintendo Direct of the year already at fever pitch, its suddenly become very easy to predict what new games might be in the Switchs future as Splatoon 2 becomes Nintendos biggest Japanese hit in eight years. One of the great frustrations about the video games industry is that its always so difficult to tell how well games are actually selling. European and American charts are purposefully vague and never include sales figures, but in Japan things are very different and you get highly accurate sales data every week.

And this week has seen the first new chart of the year, reporting sales over the new year period which in Japan is the most important gift-giving season. And as you can see its almost total Nintendo domination

Hardware sales of the Switch also handily beat the PlayStation 4, at 159,636 to 103,607, but the biggest news is that Splatoon 2 was not only the number one game but is the first console title to sell over 2 million copies in Japan since Wii Party in 2010.

Total sales now stand at 1,882,997 physical copies and 150,617 digital, for a grand total of 2,033,614.

Although successful in the West, the Splatoon franchise has been disproportionately popular in Japan with multiple live music concerts and other media appearances. And that can mean only one thing: more sequels.

When well find out about that is anyones guess but in the meantime theres been more good news for Nintendo, as their French subsidiary has reported that Switch sales have hit 911,000 beating their target of 800,000 and both the Wii (703,000) and PlayStation 4 (650,000) during the same period. Its also more than the Wii Us entire lifetime sales in the country, at 832,000.

The situation seems to be similar in Italy, which this week reported that the Switch was selling faster than the Wii there too. And this is only a few days after the Switch was named the fastest selling console ever in the US, where its sold 4.8 million units in just 10 months.

As usual, the country with the least amount of information on sales is the UK, but as ever its the success in Japan that has the most influence on Nintendo themselves. And so hopefully this all means not just more Splatoon. but also more new franchises in general.

http://www.etonline.com/american-idol-wont-showcase-bad-auditions-revival-we-want-humor-not-exploitation-93892

Once upon a time, American Idol was known for spotlighting bad auditions during its original Fox run, but when it returns for its revival season on ABC, that signature segment wont be front and center.

You might have noticed in the past few years, we havent really majored on people who are really bad, executive producer Trish Kinane said at ABCs Television Critics Association press tour on Monday, because one of the key things about the show is it shouldnt feel manipulated or fake because 15 years ago, nobody had ever seen it and it was funny. Viewers know now, theyve all watched all these shows in 15 years, and it doesnt feel comfortable to put borderline unstable people up and laugh at them.

But thats not to say we dont want humor in Idol, Kinane continued. Humor is a very important part of Idol, so if someones eccentric, slightly different or if theyve got a different voice or if they do something we dont normally hear, well put that up, thats fun. We want the humor but we dont want the exploitation.

A lot has been said about how different this new iteration of Idol, with judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, but the changes to the format -- if there are any -- appear to be minimal.

Its different because of these personalities, returning host Ryan Seacrest said. The show at its core works in format and works in premise. We go out and we look for young, talented people. They see the judges. They will come back to Hollywood and then they have to step up. Theres been a lot of talk about how is this show different. Youve got three different faces, you have different contestants, but to change the show drastically would be a mistake.

As the OG Idol alum, Seacrest said that it was important for the show to find three capable judges who would give the franchise what it deserves because the legacy of this franchise is important to the fans, its important to us [since] weve worked on it for a long time.

As for why the judges chose to be a part of the panel, they each had their own stories. Richie shared that he was at a point in his career where he was being offered videos teaching students about the art of making music.

And then I got the call [for Idol], thank God, he said. All the things I was gonna put in my master class, Im actually going to be able to tell the students. I consider myself the instructor.

Perry revealed her approach to Idol, though her fellow judges hinted that shes blunt with the contestants -- in a nice way.

American Idol and I have always been circling each other and it never has been the right timing. Now, after 10 years and a lot of aging and learning and providence, I can take that information and mentor and give constructive criticism, Perry said. No ones here to say, I suck. Were here to really find a star, and if someone isnt a star, delicately help repurpose them on a path thats going to be right for them.

The American Idol endeavor felt like it was going to be a blast to be a part of, Bryan added. It was never a moments thought for me because I get inspired. I judge and I watch this like a fan of music.

But ultimately, the goal is to find the next American Idol.

Literally, we are wasting our time if we do not find a star, Perry said. America needs another star. They need a real, legit American Idol. Its a crowded space and I take it really seriously, sometimes to my detriment.

When the best game in recent memory is a fan game (and the best prior to that had several 2D stages deviating from its modern style), and one of their most hyped and ambitious reinventions ended up being one of the worst games of the 00s, it doesn't bode well for a franchise's reputation.

Just let Nintendo go all Disney on Sega now please.
