I didn't use them that much! I went through Cut Man and Guts Man and Bomb Man with zero tools, and I only busted the tools out for bosses (to learn their patterns) and incredibly irritating platforming segments.

I keep expecting 35 year-old games to be dogshit and they just aren't (ignoring the fucking yoku blocks) this is so fucked up

The TMP is far and away the best pistol in the game. Pistols are for setting up melee attacks, and the TMP is just the best at that since it has the most ammo.

And then it just fucking obliterates everything else in terms of DPS

Xenogears is so dogshit in nearly every conceivable way that Disc 2 is a significant improvement because you don't actually have to play Xenogears

I forget but did you ever read I/O? It's not the same series and it's actually not uchikoshi at all but the main scenario director / concept guy worked on N7/E17/R11 and it's similar in some ways

What's the Infinity series?

A series of romance/sci-fi visual novels consisting of Never 7: The End of Infinity, Ever 17: The Out of Infinity, Remember 11: The Age of Infinity, 12Riven: The climinal of Integral, and Code_18. Only the first 3 (N7, E17, and R11) are translated, and only the first 4 had Uchikoshi working on them. The other main author, Takumi Nakazawa, left the series after R11 to write I/O, the worst game ever. C18 is basically completely unrelated and only has the Infinity name because the copyright owners thought it would sell well.

Never 7 takes place on an island, and while it's mostly a romance VN, it has the caveat of (minor spoilers) whatever girl you're pursuing dies in some way at the end of the week and you loop back to the beginning of the week and try to save her. It's by far the least influential and known of the Infinity games, although the Chaos; series apparently heavily borrows from it. It's also very short, so you won't have to dedicate a lot of time to it, and you'll still get to see one of Uchi's earliest works.

Ever 17 takes place in an underwater theme park that suffered a serious accident and will implode from water pressure within a week. It's less romance and more sci-fi than N7, but the romance is very much still there. It is one of the most earth-shaking and impactful visual novels ever released, ESPECIALLY in the West. I don't think it holds up that well nowadays, but it's still worth a play just to see the influence it's had. To this day, Uchikoshi is worried E17 will be on his gravestone.

Remember 11 takes place in 2 locations with 2 main characters: One is in a mental hospital with amnesia and someone after their life, and one is trapped in a mountain cabin during a blizzard after a plane crash and starving to death. It's a full mystery/thriller, and it's one of my favorite stories in any game ever. The pacing is absolutely impeccable, and I simply could not put it down once I started it. I cannot recommend it enough, although you'll want to play E17 first to get the full effect.

12Riven is... not very good. Granted, I've only experienced it via translation streams, but I doubt a full translation would do much to help it. I don't have much to say about it, other than that the AI series borrows a lot from it, but I'd avoid it unless you are starving for more Uchikoshi content.

The Infinity games are not heavily linked, but concepts and names reappear throughout the series, and you will get more out of later games by playing the earlier ones first.

Uchikoshi is not involved (so far) sadly :(

Research laser weapons as soon as possible and then plasma weapons eventually. I kinda think I suck at original x-com but I pretend I still think I know what I am doing still last I played it. I remember strategies but whether I implement them properly and the way the game goes. Get power armor eventually and give it to your best soldier and hope he doesn't eventually get mind controlled or some crap.
