I'm a huge xenosaga fan but had never played xenogears
A big issue is I don't like the mech combat in xenosaga and was worried I wouldn't like it in xenogears knowing that the final boss in gears if a mech fight

Well I'm playing xenogears for the first time and am enjoying it
But not as much as xenosaga
After this I'll try xenoblade

That mess of a series needs a from the ground up remake to be good

That game needs a complete remake, and an editor to not make every character sound like Microsoft Sam reading the wikipedia article for every topic of discussion. The writing's balls.
The gameplay's bleh
The story's got interesting concepts, but waaaaay too self-indulgent and thinks it's deeper than it actually is. It's like a teenager binged The Infographics Show channel, and just named every single thing in the game based on at least one video they'd seen from said channel as a reference or idea, so much so to the point that there's flimsy strands of relevance to each other.
And it overcomplicates events for no reason. Probably because every character speaks in just about the most awkward and inorganic way possible.

And no, don't tell me XENOGEARS SPOILERS it's because of Deus or some crap 'cause that excuse makes 0 sense with the other info we're given in that game.
Which, again: concepts with flimsy relevance to each other.

That would have been sick. I was so engrossed in the story in disc 1 and then having Fei and Ely sitting in a chair telling you what was happening disc 2 just took me out of it.

It's pretty bad. Major story developments happen in single screens with text dumps.

I tried to play Xenogears, but there were a couple things that immediately turned me off from the game. The compass plus rotating the map. I found myself getting lost in areas that should have been extremely simple to get out of. I'll probably eventually grind my way through the game but it won't be a quick 1 and done.

Like a lot of old games, this game suffers from being slow as fuck and will require a speed up feature to be playable now. It sucks even more that there's no way to change the text speed. People who hates scene to scene games will hate this game. There is an assfull amount of talking scenes in this game. Course for whatever reason people will make an exemption to this game.

I love Xenogears but that wouldn't be an auto-buy for me. There's a lot of ways they could fuck up a remaster especially if they're adding content that wasn't there before

I do wonder how well it aged.

Like, it's a game that uses religion and philosophy but did it really do that well or was it babby's first philosophy and the game really didn't understand its own themes? But eh, I was a kid and easily impressed and thought it was the deepest thing ever lol

A big part of that is because one guy had to pretty much translate the entire thing all on his own using essentially an excel spreadsheet. Everyone else quit because of religious reasons or fear of blowback from religious folks. He was rushed and overworked. In the JP one, the only one that talks like a robot is Citan. Fei comes across as less dumb since he's not constantly asking questions about what was literally just answered.

Because of that the guy that did it went on a big crusade at Square to get translation tools that weren't garbage. He outright changed how we got games in other languages.

I recently finished this game about a year ago. The characters are all full of cringe with their dumbass insecurities. Some characters completely opens up about themselves immediately to everyone while the secret mysterious people stay being a secret until it is time for them to reveal themselves.

By the time disc two rolled around, the random encounter rate and battle system had worn their welcome a bit, so I was happy to have a visual novel to sit down with for a bit.

I'd add an option to speed up text, but beyond that, I'm good

nah, xenosaga games were great too.

I remember enjoying Xenosaga (only played the first one), but for a game with so much story I remember remarkably little of it

I'd rather have exactly Xenogears combat, with or without gears, in a new setting/story.

It needs a retranslation and the combat system needs a bit of a rework to fix how you learn combos. Also it needs to be sped up and some of the dungeon mechanics fixed. The talking scenes don't bother me, story dumps are always a thing in jrpgs.

It needs a gigantic overhaul remake.

I forgot if you can use the right analog stick to turn the iso-camera thing lol I guess that could be a QOL feature along with the obvious save states and speed up

Xenogears is so dogshit in nearly every conceivable way that Disc 2 is a significant improvement because you don't actually have to play Xenogears

No amount of time and money thrown at it could ever make the second disc good. Xenogear's plot was a bunch of nonsense bullshit.

The combat system is fun for boss fights
But random encounters are a tedious Chore with that system

i like disc 2

first time i played it back around the time it came out i couldn't get past Redrum

i tried to get through it again a few years ago and couldn't get past some fight in which your party breaks out into multiple teams and i forget the details other than that i saved in a matter that i couldn't grind so i gave up

disc 2 is why i will never replay xenogears, its such a letdown. if they did this i would absolutely eat it up

The game is fucking easy as fuck to exploit. Citen is the most OP human unit. He has heals and power attacks and good speed. Equip him with items to give him more speed and he'll go 2 times before anyone else including the enemies LMAO.

For Gear fights just give Elly two Ether Doublers and have her use her pods and it's fucking GG.
