MANOS: The Hand of Fate ~ Director's Cut (PC)

"Retro platforming action in this adaptation of a terrible movie."

This game is based on a movie from 1966.
This game was developed by FreakZone Games who also made Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures.
All of the context is lost on me except for a few references to other NES games.

The game itself: It's fun and very fair IMO. There are power ups called Hands of Fate that give you life extensions. This game gives you a lot of 1-Ups. The checkpoints are very good and well placed too.. I got through it in 24:52 my first time through. This game definitely reminded me of the AVGN's game aesthetic and gameplay.

Not a bad game for a cheap price!

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons (PC)

Tokens are used to earn Characters, Tips, Art, Music
You can set Continue type to Infinite, Permadeath, 3 Tokens
You can adjust Player Health, Revive Cost, Upgrade Cost, Enemy Stats, Enemy Aggression.
Adjusting these will mainly affect your payout on Tokens to unlock stuff.

The roguelite aspect is very minimal. You can do any mission in any order. It's encouraged to try them all out in each session cause you can go through different paths/mid bosses depending on how you do the order of the stages. Some of the bosses even have a completely different gimmick/attack pattern at Mission 4. I have a preferred order so I don't do any of the gimmicky stage hazards that annoyed me.

At the end of each stage, you get a choice of power ups to enhance your characters.

Game is fun. I actually like to plan out and approach the enemies to kite them around to do Crowd Control. Doing successful Crowd Controls will get you Food pick ups. When you're at max health you can pick up the food for more money.

Majority of people are complaining about the part where when you do a Crowd Control it brings up a CROWD CONTROL graphic where it stops the gameplay flow a little to remind you that you did a CROWD CONTROL when the food item appears. This actually didn't bother me. This is one of many things that people are requesting for an option to turn this off/remove

My preferences of the characters: Billy/Jimmy/Uncle Matin/Marian
All the characters are honestly good in their own ways. You can't really choose wrong. Billy is basically my comfort character. Jimmy is a close second and I think Uncle Matin is awesome. Marian is fun but doesn't suit my style.

The final stage got me heated a little until I figured out the PRO STRATS. I was a little stressed for my first time but kept my cool.
The OST is awesome.

Verdict: This game doesn't suck. Certified GOGZero game. Double Dragon is slowly getting out of the pile of suck it has been drowning in since Double Dragon IV. You love to see it.

Double Dragon IV (PC)

I had an excuse to replay this game. This is one of the few games I own on Steam that didn't have a cloud save. Beat the game and unlocked all the characters again from the Tower Mode.
My opinion about this game still stands: This is still the most disappointing entry in the series.

and after beating the game you can't go exploring for anything that is missed....so those 2 upgrades I missed? yeah I don't think I am playing through again to find them lol, but overall it was a decent time.

The game explicitly tells you about a point of no return when you reach the final area. The game is pretty self aware on that.

Crypt of the Necrodancer (Switch)

I had this game on the backburner for a long time. Made it to Zone 4 and stopped playing while I moved onto something else in my backlog.
3 years later, I came back to it. I finally beat the game with Cadence and Melody.
I dunno if I'll be good enough to beat the game playing as Aria.
Taking a lot of breaks from this game helped in the long run and the practice modes to practice on enemies/bosses also helped big time.
I'm satisfied with what I set out to do and that's all that matters to me.

FUR Squadron (PC)

This was a very fun and short legally distinct Star Fox game!

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch)

I finally beat the game today. I have been playing since the game released.
I did every Shrine. I genuinely loved it. I wasn't gonna pull off what I did to Breath of the Wild like I did years ago by putting it off for a few years and eventually going back to beat it before Tears of the Kingdom released. I saw this game through to the very end and I'm happy I stuck with it.
It's a Top Tier Zelda game.

Mega Man 10 (replay, via Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, Steam)

THIS game on the other hand. Holy shit, wasn't this supposed to be easy compared to MM9? This game fucking destroyed me, especially the Wily stages. Admittedly, I was using Proto Man, and I strongly regret that decision because I'm just not good enough at this series to deal with dying in 3 hits without it being a miserable experience, but even the platforming was insanely tough. No wonder I had to grind bolts and buy 9 of every healing item to beat Wily's Fortress when I first played this as a kid.

I suspect I'd have had more fun as Bass than Proto Man but I think he wasn't available to begin with? I dunno. Anyway, I generally like this game but those Wily stages are just brutal so I'm ending this 10 game marathon on kind of a sour note, unfortunately.

Well...playing as Proto Man comes at a price.
You get to charge your Buster.
You get the Slide.
You get to use his Proto Shield when you jump to deflect some projectiles.
The tradeoff: Proto Man takes double the damage compared to Mega Man and he can only shoot 2 regular shots instead of 3 like Mega Man. Although if you use Proto Coil, it will allow Proto Man to shoot out 3 regular shots when you have the Coil out.

Bass was originally a DLC character for $2.00 for those that owned Mega Man 10 on Wii/PS3/360 in their respective shops (not soo much for Wii anymore since the Wii Shop closed down).
Bass is unlocked when you beat the game. You can also use a push button code instead to unlock him in Legacy Collection 2.

Also, yes. Bass is super fun to play as.

My bad! That was a very bad typo.
I meant to put down 2DS XL instead of Switch.
Super Mario Deluxe was one of many games I downloaded to my 2DS XL before the eShop shutdown. I played it through the 2DS XL.

New games beaten from the backlog
---
Woodle Tree Adventures (Switch): I got this game on sale long ago and decided to finally get around to playing it. I was surprised on how short it is. It's a nice and chill 3D platformer where you play as a sentient Log while you collect stuff/McGuffins.

Alien Splatter Redux: A fun run and gun action/platformer. Last year I played the original version of the game when it came with Jet Gunner via Properties > Local Files > Browse. Alien Splatter Redux is a stand alone release and it fixed/tweaked a few of the level designs and even dropped a few of the old bosses and put in a new boss. This is much better than the original version in every way.

Cybarian: The Time Traveling Warrior (Switch): Very weird concept of a Barbarian set in a future setting in this action/platformer. The combat is kinda unique in that you have to time your swings. Boss fights are done in phases which I'm a little indifferent about. I slightly ended up liking this game once I got used to the mechanics.

Firework (Switch): A game where the look is based off of Mega Man and Cave Story. It does an ok job of trying to be it's own thing. Very little information is given in this game on how you have to figure out to get the true ending. When I did look up said information, it did make sense. I was still a little annoyed I went through the game twice and got the bad ending. My third playthrough which went smoothly due to new game plus I eventually did see the new content and got the true ending. I liked the ability of having multiple Air Dashes.

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (Game Boy Color/Switch): This is the definitive version of Super Mario Bros. It is incredible how much content there is. It has so many unlockables in it and the different modes are neat. If there was a way to hack this game with a better screen resolution it would be really sweet to put it on an NES or something.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch): I took a 3 year hiatus of this game due to a lack of motivation, drowning in my backlog and spending too much time on Animal Crossing: New Horizons/other games. I felt like I committed a "cardinal sin" of not finishing a Zelda game after I started it but never finishing it. I finally decide to go back to this game to finish it in time for Tears of the Kingdom.

I gotta say...this game felt like the closest feeling I had that The Legend of Zelda NES gave me. It had that similar vibe to me. The whole open world thing it has going on. The weapon durability did get old after awhile but it's ok cause you can practically find them everywhere and you can be very creative on how to dispatch the enemies. I really did enjoy exploring and getting distracted a lot. The story was ok. I also did like you get more story/lore when finding the Recovered Memories. Overall, I enjoyed of what I played of this game.

Kid Icarus (NES/Switch): Has a weird difficulty of starting out hard in the beginning but gets easier the further you get

Kirby's Dream Land (Game Boy/Switch): Fun, short and sweet. Still holds up well today.

Game & Watch Gallery 3 (Game Boy Color/Switch): Been a good number of years since I played this one. I totally forgot it had a Credits sequence. A nice set of games that are fun to play. My favorite one is probably Mario Bros., where you control Mario & Luigi at a cake factory.

Star Fox (SNES/Switch): Completed Course 1. I still enjoy it despite it's age and that is what matters to me.

Fighter's History (SNES/Switch): Completed the game with Ray. Spamming Dynamite Tackle is a guilty pleasure.

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins: Still a fun game to me.

Crypt Stalker (PC): Game got an updated recently and it got new levels. The game also got tweaked/fixed and a few of the bosses got slightly different attack patterns. The game is also less buggy too. Fun Legally Distinct Castlevania game.

Final Fight (Switch/Arcade): Played via Capcom Beat Em' Up Bundle with a friend online. He played as Haggar and I decided to be different and used Guy this time around.

Ninja Gaiden (NES/Switch): I just had that mood of wanting to play this game and wanted to stay sharp about playing this game. I finally did a personal achievement too I was grinding on the side: Beating Jaquio damageless and made a clip of myself doing it. I'm proud of that accomplishment.

Rygar (NES/Switch): This game is really fun when you know what to do and where to go. Fun to go through from time to time in an hour something minutes.

First game (s) of the year. I used Mega Man in both games.
This little package is neat. These are 8-Bit versions of the two Mega Man Arcade games - Mega Man: The Power Battle and Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters.

Vampire Survivors Mobile FAQ
---
Is Vampire Survivors on mobile free?
Yes, entirely free. The full game, fully free.

Is Vampire Survivors playable offline?
Yes, Vampire Survivors for mobile is playable in full offline, wherever you decide to play.

Does Vampire Survivors have microtransactions on mobile?
No, there are no microtransactions or loot boxes in Vampire Survivors for mobile. Extra DLC in line with the PC/Xbox versions will be available at a later date, but were still trying to find out how to make them available and will remain completely optional.

Does it play in portrait or landscape? Can I use a controller?
The game starts in portrait, but you can swap to landscape from the Options menu. You can use a controller when in landscape.

Does the mobile game has the same progression as the other versions?
Yes, everything is the same, but weapons will be more or less effective if you play in portrait.

Are there ads on the mobile version of Vampire Survivors?
Yes, but let us be clear, they in no way impact the player experience. There are no pop-ups. An advert will appear after runs and offer the opportunity for the player to gain [LIVES/GOLD]. They can be ignored and not interacted with should you not want to. The reasoning for this is we had to monetize the game in some way, but in the way that least affected the player experience.

Can I transfer my PC/Xbox save to mobile?
Currently, save files cannot be transferred between mobile and PC/Xbox, but it is something we are working on.

Will Vampire Survivors on mobile get the same DLC as the PC/Xbox versions?
Yes, but at this time only the base game is available.

Will Vampire Survivors receive the same updates as the PC/Xbox versions?
Yes, all future updates will be in line with the PC/Xbox versions.
