Of all the series that are left for revivals, I think the one that I don't want to see in the current environment is a reboot of Pirates of Dark Water.

As the short-lived series went on, it focused less on Ren and more on Tula. She was a strong warrior with magic powers, but she was also a long haired smiling beauty in pink clothing. Obviously, that would have to change.

I could see a reboot going several different ways. I could see it becoming another Adventure Time or ThunderCats Roar. I could see it being another Kevin Smith He-Man with Teela becoming a stern unlikable bodybuilder. The best option, at least in terms of realistic options, would be if they went the Avatar route and it became Legend of Tula. Tula wears dark blue, dates a woman, and remains reasonably true to her original character.

Pretty much every series I've ever liked has had some kind of reboot I didn't agree with.

> Spider-Man can't have "Mary Jane" as a girlfriend unless she's ugly. Michelle can be pretty. Heaven forbid that they call her Mary Jane though. As far as Marvel is concerned, Mary Jane is French for objectified damsel in distress girlfriend.

> TMNT goes too dark or two stupid and is hellbent on making the team mom into a little girl.

> He-Man got SPOILERS'd and Teela is more mannish than Prince Adam ever was.

> Batman isn't Batman unless he can complain about how bad he's got it while walking on water. (Not that we care about Batman anyway. DC stands for Harley Quinn Comics.)

> X-Men became The Wolverine Show and Rogue stopped being hot a long time ago.

> Wrestling is a bunch of zombies, Muppets, skinny guys doing backflips, and celebrity guests. (Yay, celebrities!)

> James Bond went from a globetrotting playboy fantasy self-insert character to a wannabe Jason Bourne who dodges sex to carry out missions and only goes for older/married women. (Could you be less fun if you tried?)

> Star Wars systematically replaced likable characters with bland ones and stereotyped or wrote off what few new characters were likable.

> The Terminator and Alien revivals... don't exist. Those series only have two films each.

> Transformers fell into the hands of Michael Bay.

> King Kong had a bad reboot in 2005, a good solo movie in Skull Island, and got totally pissed on in the King Kong vs Godzilla remake.

I will say I do still enjoy the Jurassic Park / Jurassic World movies (sans JPIII). And while I don't like the way Godzilla vs Kong was handled, Godzilla himself has never had a bad break aside from the Roland Emmerich movie.

I'm more liberal, but not by much.
Compared to 15 years ago, a lot more liberal.

I've come to the conclusion that, seeing as both parties have the same financial backers, American politics is pretty much a stage show and the American public has very little to do with the actual outcome.

They want the number of actual voters to be as close to 50/50 as possible so that, no matter who the electoral college chooses, it comes across like a bad call rather than a rigged election. The Democrats win the popular vote each time, yet Republicans have a near 50/50 success rate. There's no amount of "well, actually, it's very complicated" to justify that.

I think Donald Trump bought his way into the presidency before he was ever officially nominated. Joe Biden was just America's owners having buyer's remorse. Of course, we'll find out in a few years. If Trump becomes president again, I'm wrong. I'm not sure what I should hope for: a rigged political system or one in which bigotry and xenophobia flourish.

They Live is one of those movies which highlights the strength of a director.

If you watch They Live, Roddy Piper seems like a natural actor. You watch him in anything else and he's wooden. That has to come down to John Carpenter getting the right kind of reaction out of him at the right time -- like his being weirded out when the blind preacher feels his face.

Do you remember any details of what the game was like?

Dreams borrow from memories and often select obscure visuals your mind won't immediately recognize. In this case, it borrowed from two fighting games I've played fairly little of: Samurai Showdown and Eternal Champions.

The unchanging background was essentially this stage background from Eternal Champions except it had the final boss (Shao Kahn with a more cartoonish mask) sitting in on a throne like in Mortal Kombat II.

The penultimate boss was taken from Comix Zone and had water based attacks.

The gameplay was like a slower version of Street Fighter II, but it would zoom in on certain attacks and freeze on the kill shot like in Samurai Showdown.

I do remember, from the context of the dream, that I had lost with one character to an earlier opponent before switching characters and defeating them. But I don't think those fights were actively a part of the dream. Dreams can often include an awareness for something which was supposed to have happened within the context of the dream - like a false memory.

I know it's not the same context as your question, but I had a dream last night that I was playing a 90s arcade fighter. I made it to the penultimate boss fight and won the first round by the absolute skin of my teeth.

I then walked away from the arcade cabinet because I felt I would never play the game again and wanted to leave on a high note.

Glad to see The Thing dominating.

It really got robbed in its initial run. The movie poster made it look like a slasher movie and the shortening of the title from The Thing from Another World probably didn't help either. "The Thing" is a nondescript title. In context, it's meant to refer to the indescribable. But if it's the pre-internet world of the early 1980s, and you're thumbing through the back pages of the newspaper to see what movies are showing at the local theater, The Thing isn't a title that's likely to catch your attention.

I have no clue what kind of commercial advertisement it may have received, but I can't imagine too many shots could've been shown in a TV trailer.

Rocky III was the only retcon I remember liking.

In the first movie, Apollo Creed was depicted as a bigot. He was a Black boxing champion who delighted in the prospect of making an example of a White boxer and specifically asked that his replacement opponent be White.

In the third movie, he was recharacterized. We saw the impoverished background he came from, we saw that he didn't dislike White people, and while it didn't change the fact that he specifically asked for a White opponent, it retroactively changes the motivation to him wanting to show a bigoted society that he was the best and that, if anybody didn't like it, he could beat their best.

And it's all shown rather than stated.

John Hammond runs his park on a skeleton crew and sees automation as the key to maximizing profit. It's still there in the film. They just don't beat you over the head with like they do in the book.
