I've always enjoyed Chrono Cross for what it was, but I tend to headcanon it as an alternate reality spinoff instead of a true sequel, and have no interest in seeing the franchise go beyond that point (and honestly, ~~Schala's fate~~ wasn't interesting enough as a sequel hook to ever make me want said sequel for its own sake). An Aliens Was In Mortal Kombat With Rambo and RoboCop! It's like - the movies are perfectly fine. They deserve their GOAT status or whatever. But I'm sick of being told to care about the legacy of these franchises for the fifth time in 12 years through reboots, sequels and video game appearances. It's desperate shilling at this point, and it's unappealing. Things happen, and then they end, and they stand on their own - sometimes that's exactly how it should be. Like even recently, there was an announcement that there's gonna be more Avatar: The Last Airbender stuff. It'll probably be okay, but it's just as valid to let The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra stand on their own - especially after Korra struggled to find its footing and got taken off of TV, airing most of its final season in web premieres, the box office movie sucked and Netflix fucked the creators behind the franchise out of the live-action miniseries. It's okay to let the pre-existing media stand on its own, you don't have to milk it until it feels like ash in the mouth of your audience. I guess that's my answer to this thread as well. I kinda hope the live-action Avatar series gets cancelled and they leave the franchise alone. It's already good enough with what we've got. There doesn't have to be more. Though I wouldn't mind some prequel stuff, there's plenty of cool stuff to tap there. --- But I don't have to make this mistake, and I don't have to stay this way. Dragging old corpses on screen and baiting old fans with them. Putting up a woke facade and then turning your black actor into a joke.
