If you have 8 stories to write that are due out on a monthly basis, some of the characters and scenarios are gonna have to be recycled from other works with slight alterations or else be a little bit threadbare. |

The process was referred to as Hulking Up when Hogan did it. Warrior was never given a name for it. Undertaker can teleport and has superhuman recuperative abilities. (One one point, he explicitly drew his powers from an urn.) Undertaker's storyline brother Kane also has superhuman recuperative abilities, can shoot lightning, and can cause fire to rise up from the turnbuckle posts. And Papa Shango, a voodoo priest, had the ability to make people cough up green vomit. |

Most of the smart people in the film industry who enjoy video games will usually also have the knowledge that trying to make a two hour film adaptation of an ten-hour-plus interactive medium is a fool's errand. We turn 16 hour novels into 2 hour movies all the time. A novel isn't as interactive as a video game, but certainly more-so than a movie. No matter how motivations and appearances are laid out, there's still that bit of audience imagination that goes into it. Most of the content in video games can be traced back to other media. Mortal Kombat 1 was Enter the Dragon meets Big Trouble in Little China. Rayden was Lightning, Shang Tsung was Lo Pan, Liu Kang was Lee, Goro was Bolo, and Kano was O'Hara. You can just as easily work your way back. Don't try and adapt a fighting game, a shooting game, or a run and jump sorta game. Just focus on the underlining story and turning the mechanics into individual scenes. |

But with decades of video games, surely, some of the people in Hollywood must've played them growing up. Why do movie adaptations of video games always seem to go to people who never played them? I wonder if it's a deliberate choice. Like, I wonder if producers weed out the ones who grew up playing video games because they're afraid that a Moral Kombat or Street Fighter movie is just going to be two hours of people fighting each other without story or character. "Legend of Chun-Li? She was my main character in Street Fighter II. This will be an awesome experience." "You've played the game? Oh, well... I guess you shouldn't be working on this project then. We're going to turn it over to the person who thinks Irish accents are genetic." |

I must've missed the clip of him fighting Sub-Zero. In any event, it's a lose-lose situation. Either Jax gets his arms ripped off and doesn't get revenge on the man who did it to him or else Sub-Zero versus Scorpion is a sideshow attraction with Jax's revenge on Sub-Zero being the main event. Either way, Jax should not have been positioned as a victim of Sub-Zero. |
