Game reviews just need to go back to having separate scores for graphics, sound, gameplay, controls, etc. if they need to add a special extra number for the writer's personal preferences they can add that to make them feel better, fine.

I think this logic sort of treats the problem as being giving the game an overall score when that's just not the issue. The issue is that gamers have such an unhealthy relationship with their product of choice that they stake their own pride and mental wellbeing on whether the game they want is recognized as being good by others. And they already decide the game is good from the trailers or series name, so if a review contradicts their expectation at all then it becomes a personal insult against that gamer. And that's even putting aside when the culture war angle flares up like with this one.

The only meaning any kind of score has to these people is as either validation for their constructed reality or an assault on their values/childhood/beliefs. Breaking it down into smaller scores won't change how the gamers who get mad about them interpret them.

Gamer review culture is a dumpster fire.

Huh I remember that episode as a kid but I didn't recognize it was a parody since I hadn't seen a WA movie before.

As to gimmicky, I said that as a word other people use derogatorily more than what I'd use. His style though is certainly more distinct than the average director. It's why there's so many parodies of him, it seems easier to make something obviously Anderson-esque than, I dunno, Spielberg-esque.

By default if you don't have a twitter account the website only lets you go one link deep before asking you to sign it. It didn't use to be that way.

See but in my experience pre order is basically just pre pay. GameStop didn't reserve a copy for me for Animal Crossing going back to the OP example. Interesting that it used to mean something but nowadays it feels like a relic and marketing scheme.

I was supposed to come into the office every month or so (technically twice a month on my offer letter). Then my manager got fired two months into my job and they've never asked me to come back since. It's awesome because it's a 3 hour drive into Chicago and instead I've gotten to be fully remote.

This game has a lot of depth in terms of system interactions IMO, but that depth is almost entirely stacked against the player.

I finally got an invasion ship to the rebel flagship as Gila Monster A. I didn't have hull-damaging weapon systems except missiles. Well guess what, when you kill everyone on the flagship it actually doesn't matter because it starts piloting itself automatically, so you need to reduce its hull to 0. And if you destroy it by doing system damage with a boarder then you'll lose that boarder and still need to do the next 2 phases.

Supposedly high level players can do triple digit win streaks in this game on Hard with random ship, I cannot imagine the patience and encyclopedic mechanical knowledge that requires.

Violin family I mean. There's a violin, viola, cello and double bass. They're playing Don't Stop Believin' without a lyrical accompaniment. Their legato is poor. Not like I could do better obviously, but I wonder if they're employee volunteers performing rather than people in the trade.

I'm a big fan of the show and I'd say the general gist is this:

0-10 - wtf am I even watching?
10-30 - ah ok there's a plot, kinda
30-60 ok I'm starting to dig these characters
60-140 - what is even going on
140- 300 - ok this got quite political and deep all of a sudden
300- 500 - this is the greatest show of all time
600+ ok it literally doesnt matter anymore because I'm never quitting

One Piece the manga has like two chapters of Luffy growing up then is immediately good when he punches out that captain lady. How slow paced is the anime?

Epic. It also matches how Blue, a DS game inserts at the top of a Nintendo DS while Red, a GBA game inserts at the bottom.

I just don't understand like, even if you don't care for the themes or foreshadowing or exploring Walt's character, the premise of the episode is just fun in a really unhinged way. Jesse thinking Walt has legit gone insane because Walt is building a giant flyswatter and falling off the railing, so he's drugging Walt's coffee etc. all of Bryan Cranston's experience as an actor is on display.

It's not the lowest rated because one has to be, people specifically pick on it for being a bottle episode and I often hear "doesn't move the plot forward" thrown around. Yet it's extremely important, genuinely critical, to understand Walt's development and his acclimation to his life after Skyler learns his secret.

As was mentioned in a previous topic no one else can enter the market because it would cost too much to run a playform like YT. There seems to be a disconnect between people saying it should remain free without ads and also accepting it costs a lot to run.

That's not by accident, that's the modern investor scam of running a company at a loss so as to cut out all other business and then raising costs on the consumer when they no longer have an alternative. That should not be rewarded, in fact we should take active steps to punish Google for it.

YouTube Red also started off with a lot of skepticism because they were pulling entire creators like VSauce behind a paywall. Which I'm sure was great for their creative pursuits getting a budget but it wasn't what a lot of subscribers wanted.

Apparently many of the OJ jurors have been interviewed and still agree with their verdict. I wasn't born when the trial happened, but just reading the case facts definitely makes it seem like *at the time* there was reasonable doubt given the prosecution's and police's mishandling, and jurors' unfamiliarity with DNA evidence which was challenged by defense lawyers as not being reliable.

I don't know how the South Park "Chewbacca defense" criticism became a thing because the defense lawyers apparently raised valid arguments for the time.

One thing I've heard is the prosecution really screwed up the glove thing because OJ got to know he'd have the chance to put it on so he did hand exercises to bulk his fingers.
