This is true more so for classical games as opposed to the time control they were playing(was it blitz)? See Magnus' classical games and you'll see more often that not he plays the reputable lines, his rapid and blitz games he plays sidelines because he knows even though hes not going to get true positional advantage as you said, he knows theres simply not enough time for a human player to come up with the best opening moves consistently if they're already playing the opening outside of their theoretical knowledge

Playing novelties and untheoretical sidelines is not any sort of un-overcome-able advantage. There's a reason they're sidelines: they are not believed to confer as strong an advantage as the main line. Carlsen likes to play side lines to put the game in the realm of his extremely strong fundamental play, but the drawback to that is he effectively cedes true positional advantage he could have had if he played a sharper line. And Niemann is no slouch.

I kind of agree though in my post I was speaking more of her role in early to mid season 3 where she's kicking Walt out of the house and shit. That's the part of BB where Skyler hate tends to be most concentrated. I don't know that Skyler really enjoyed laundering the money. She pretty quickly found it to be untenable.

Imagine building a family with a sweet meek guy for 25 years and then learning that he has been avoiding and lying to you the past several months because he's been cooking meth and dealing drugs and getting people killed. It's plausible you'd have a complex reaction to that.

She wants her old life back. She is aghast that Walt has not only done this but is continuing to do it against her wishes because it's FUN to him and that enjoyment outweighs the legal and family risk he's taking on. He decided he'd rather cook meth than take money from two former friends. When Walt blows off Skyler telling him to stop, she acts out, because she's trying to reassert any sense of control to the situation and she's stressed out as hell.

Skyler is Walt and the audience's reality check, but Walt and the audience want to keep escaping into the drug kingpin fantasy, so she is villainized.

If you so much as googled it you would see that "unhoused" is proposed by the same liberal groups working to house people. I doubt you frequently look up anything though for fear you might feel compelled to develop and grow your world view.

Changes like this are a single element to these group's larger efforts to help people and are intended to increase financial and community support for their actions.

By somehow getting the state of the board to a computer and doing an analysis to tell you the best move. At less premier tournaments this can be as simple as going to the bathroom during the game and using your phone to put a move into an online engine. This was a tournament where you have to IIRC pass a metal detector though. So there wasn't a feasible vector for Niemann to cheat with.

Niemann qualified for the tournament, was allowed to play, and passed all checks for any possible cheating equipment. Carlsen joined a tournament where a player with that history is allowed to play and compete for a win.

At that point, Niemann's prior disciplinary record is moot. He is innocent until proven guilty. Carlsen would not have thrown a fit had he collected an easy win against Niemann.

Especially the high-profile chess commentators enabling Carlsen's embarrassing behavior.

If you don't know, the chess world champion lost to a weaker player in a tournament because he got called on using a rare but unsound variation. He quit the tournament and then stoked cheating conspiracies by vagueposting on Twitter.

In this poll, a majority of GFAQs users chose INT or PER to be their highest stat. At first I was thinking, wow, GFAQs users are deluded and also physically unfit so the only viable option for them was wits. And that may very well be true. But then I thought more, and the thing about video games is that they always put the player in a problem-solving position. No matter how smart or experienced NPCs are in the Elder Scrolls or Fallout or DnD, it will pretty much fall to you to actually get things accomplished. Games are basically designed to make you feel smart by setting up problems and giving you the ability to solve them. I wonder what the poll results would be for this in a more generalized audience than just GFAQs users; I suspect a similar result would still occur if this poll was given on Twitter or through a phone poll.

I can't STAND multiplayer games with small teams. 5-6 has been the rage for a while with these MOBAs and Hero Shooters. I get that it's supposed to be a manageable size to get some friends or a small professional team together. It also happens to be the perfect size to maximize player toxicity. It's small enough for a player to pick someone to particularly blame and harass, and it's big enough for someone to handwave their own shortcomings and not try to improve because one player's excellence isn't enough to carry.

Something like TF2's 12v12 is more ideal. There, a player can have no skill, but their shortcoming is minimized by the team size and they are unlikely to be harassed by anyone. Allowing mid-match enters also helps these players by obfuscating scoreboard meaning. On the flipside, skill ceiling and player agency is still enough that individual great players can thrive and meaningfully push the objective.

A large team size like that is less conducive to e-sports leagues. But you know what, team e-sports kinda sucks fundamentally at everything but spectating a very high level of paid professionals.

When I used Linux (both Ubuntu and Fedora), my trackpad was perfect. The moment I touched it, the screen responded and scrolled.

In Windows, there is like a quarter second pause before scrolling starts, and there may be a little bit of deadzone too. It just feels way less responsive.
