It's the natural result of conflict between the various areas of one's social environment. Often, people would rather reconcile them than give one of the areas up. And since people in an environment often experience similar things, they can usually find groups that share some of these struggles and attempts at compromise. The gradual evolution of the various areas of one's society (including religion) is what follows. It may not be fast or happen at an even pace; but as long as a religion doesn't control all aspects of one's social environment, there's potential for change, even if seems contradictory.

No, I get that, I'm just curious for some first-hand experience. There is a huge difference between a societal study of the hypocrisy of a religion and someone telling you first hand why they feel it is not hypocrisy.

I feel like they've spent most of this phase grooming the audience in getting used to the newer characters just to make sure it will work. We started out phase 3 with what was essentially Captain America vs Iron Man and that's basically been it from them until Avengers (outside of Iron Man having a big supporting role in Homecoming). No Iron Man solo movie at all. Their character arcs seem like they're coming to a close too. Civil War was a big climatic moment for both of them and I think the next Avengers movies will resolve it.

I'm not expecting Iron Man 4 in the next phase either. I think the next Captain America movie will be lead by Bucky (perhaps to see if audiences will accept a transition like that). Avengers 4 will probably end with them passing the torch to the new team (Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Ant-man, Wasp, Spider-man and Doctor Strange).

On top of this they recently got the X-Men and Fantastic Four which I'm guessing has totally shifted whatever their previous plans were for movies after Avengers 4.

Yeah, that makes sense. You are probably right.

Yeah, you are right. It may change now. It would just seem weird, considering how Star Wars was handled, or any other long-running franchise. It's difficult to switch the protagonist in series without so many eyes on them.

Surgery is a relatively recent development, but people have experienced symptoms we would probably diagnose as gender dysphoria since antiquity. We know this because some of those languages have words describing people going through these or similar situations. It's worth mentioning that for a lot of these cultures masculinity and feminity were not necessarily mutually exclusive. So ideas of gender aren't really fully translatable across languages here.

Worth pointing out to is that over any given period of time, masculine and feminine actually tend to swap a lot of traits. For example, makeup was used by men in several cultures. We often erroneously assume that what we think of masculine and feminine are based on historical values, but they are incredibly new.

LordRazziel posted...

I know the Egyptians emphasized a balance of masculine and feminine.
Got that from The Pyramid Code. Some of the little legitimate info in that series.

It's actually an interesting concept. I know that Daoism distinctly divides masculine and feminine as two distinct forces, which people often interpret as a rigidly defined system, ignoring the fact that Daoism also teaches that one should cultivate a balance of forces in their life in order to live a full life. In fact, pure masculinity is also in the same category as drought, illustrating the fact that people need to achieve a balance of masculinity and feminity to survive.

I think I'm qualified to have a discussion about it. Secondly, I never said anything was 'supposed' to be anything. I pointed out my difficulty at understanding how someone can choose a faith that challenges several of their personal beliefs and why they would continue to adhere to it while throwing out large parts of the faith. Yes it does.

Not all DLC/microtransactions are 'bad'. I've been arguing this for years. People need to stop using DLC/microtransaction as a blanket curse word. Take the Fallout: New Vegas or Fallout 3 DLC; they were great experiences that added to the game. People need to start being specific with their complaints if they ever want to actually be heard.

In the case of Monster Hunter, it's incredibly minuscule and not even worth complaining about. It adds up to basically some goofy gestures and some incredibly minor cosmetic items. I feel like people keep arguing over it as some sort of 'Gotcha' moment for people who complain about DLC, and as much as I'd like to see that, it hardly qualifies.

I honestly don't see how it's hypocritical to ignore parts of the Bible that make no sense in modern era since you're not supposed to be worshipping a book. If the religion was called Biblicalism, yeah maybe I could see the argument, but as is, if someone is just treating the Bible like a giant rulebook and following every single thing written in it, they're ignoring the entire point of their religion.

Again, the Bible is the central lawbook for Christianity. The majority of Christians follow its teachings exclusively. It is the written chronicle of Jesus' teachings, and since Jesus doesn't come down and hand out law routinely, Christians are forced to follow it.

And again, the Bible is explicit in that it is the word of God, that it is applicable for all time, and that you aren't supposed to pick and choose. I suppose you could ignore all those parts, but then why even be a Christian? What is the point if you are going to throw out the only source of belief. It's literally the holiest book for Christians. It's the only holy book for Christians.

Let me put it this way. Where do your beliefs and religious practices come from?

But yeah I'm sorry if I'm getting an attitude but it's frustrating in the same topic as people saying Christians are close-minded and archaic, to have someone say "nuh uh, becoming modern goes against the religion." So we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. What are we supposed to do? Like I pointed out, statistically, factually speaking, most Christians in this country support gay rights and are not hateful (I can link you to the polls for that). But it just seems unfair for that progress to be criticized as well.

Again, I'm not arguing with that. I'm pointing out that Christianity was founded on the basis of Christ's teachings and Biblical law. The Bible is very explicit in its condemnation of Christianity. It just seems to me, why even be a Christian if you don't agree with all the rules?

ForestLogic posted...
Honestly though dude, I feel like you're missing the point of faith if you're under the impression that it's based on just following the Bible. Like, the core tenet of Christianity isn't just blindly quoting random scripture, it's belief in Jesus Christ. Like, his name is literally what the religion is named after lol. That's really the most important takeaway from the Bible, the whole cliched John 3:16 line that everyone knows. Churches aren't teaching "Make sure you read the entire Bible and follow everything it says, even the parts that contradict itself." They teach "This is the story of Jesus. Learn from it, and worship Him and everything is cool."

The Bible is the central written record of the entire religion. You can say its not, but literally everything you learn about the religion is from it. There is no oral tradition passed down. The only thing that connects all Christians over the past 1800 years or so is the Bible. The problem with saying, "it's just a set of basic instructions" is that the Bible itself states the opposite.

Isaiah 40:8 - The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.

Matthew 24:35 - Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away.

Deuteronomy 12:32 - See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it.

John 10:35 ESV - If he called them gods to whom the word of God cameand Scripture cannot be broken

2 Peter 1:20 ESV - Knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation.

Revelation 22:18 ESV - I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book,

2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV - All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

So what can we grasp from this?
- The Bible is eternal. It is wrong to try and change it or ignore parts of it.
- The enterity of the Bible is directly the word of God. Not just the 10 commandments.
- The Bible is the central part of the religion.

Resulted in a character who one would think was absolutely hilarious when one was young, but when looking back years later, turns out to be surprisingly shallow, uninteresting, and unmemorable.

She probably could have been written out of the show and there wouldn't be any huge problems in the overarching plot, whereas all the other five would have opened up giant gaping plotholes or story changes if you just got rid of their roles.

It's a side-scrolling dungeon-crawl rouge-like RPGs. That doesn't really do it justice, though. You play a guy who inherits his corrupted ancestor's manor and finds that it is over-run with eldritch abominations. You have to hire a team of adventurers and train them up to confront all the monsters underneath the manor. The twist is that your adventurers actually suffer from stress and madness if they are in the dungeons too long. Darkness causes them to stress. Facing the undead stresses them out. So you have to balance stress management and resources and your heroes to survive.

Edit: I forgot to say, yes you should buy it. It is, without a doubt, one of the best indie games of the last few years. The art style is amazing and seriously reminds me of Mike Mignola's work on Hellboy.

Thanks. I just might check it out. Just started Etrian Odyssey, my first dungeon crawler a month ago and I'm eager to see what else the genre could give. Is the game finished though? Last I heard about it, in 2015ish it was still unfinished and being patched like crazy.

Yeah it's finished. It actually has a full expansion, a DLC character, and another expansion on the way. The current expansion introduces vampirism and I think the next one is introducing some sort of cosmic, extraterrestrial threat IIRC.
