Nah, if they play their cards right, they will end up strengthening the ST. One of the bigger issues with the ST is not really knowing what happened during this large ass period. We're already touching on Luke's downfall here.

These shows basically are a sequel trilogy. Aftermath of Jabbas palace, Luke building his academy, etc.

They aren't going to retcon the ST. People need to let that go. They happened, you didn't like it but get over it.

The new characters are awesome. Kylo has about as much development as Luke did. Rey developed about as much as Darth Vader did. Tbh

It's not like Han & Leia, or Chewie & 3PO & R2 actually went anywhere after Star Wars 2 lol. The fun in Star Wars 9 is seeing everyone come together imo

I actually think it's hilarious that the show's flipped a giant middle finger to the crowd who were on board with Mandalorian but nope'd out of BoBF after two or three episodes.

Cad Bane (had to look up his name) was cool. I vaguely remembered him from one of the Clone Wars eps I tried to watch; everyone kept saying the show gets better in the later seasons, but on the other hand, I hate jumping into the middle of an ongoing plot, so I was determined to start the series early. I vaguely remembered watching S1 when it originally aired, so I thought I'd start with S2. I watched the first episode, was bored out of my mind for the entirety, and realized there were better things to do with my time than commit to this. Point being, it's a black mark on the early seasons of Clone Wars that they took a frickin' alien cyborg cowboy space assassin character and somehow still managed to make him boring. I'm sure people are correct in saying both he and the show get better later on, it wouldn't have such a fanbase otherwise; but on the other hand, there are people who keep trying to lionize the PT due to its worldbuilding and actually think RotS is a good movie, so I don't know what to think.

Anyway, tl;dr regardless of my first impression of the character in Clone Wars, it's good to see Cad Bane in live-action; and like I said in the other topic, I'm generally on-board with prequel-era characters and references being brought back into the post-OT plot.

Yeah, the Luke CGI was way better this time; they clearly listened to criticism from S2, and I'd go so far as to say that they were deliberately showing off with how much screentime Luke got compared to last time. My immediate thought was that they'd either hired a deepfaker, or had tapped into whatever digital de-aging Marvel's been using.

Hamill is actually filming these for mapping.

Then they de-age the voice and create the deepfake which is transposed to two different stunt actors so far between S2 and this.

Honestly? I'm sure the tech has improved, but...

I don't want that.

No amount of work will ever convince me that's Mark Hamill. Even if it's "perfect". It's still a CGI created human acting next to a live human in make-up and I will always know that

Recasting is better. Avoiding using him is probably best. Especially given his character arc is over.

Yeah, Id definitely prefer recasting in cases like this. Its just silly to rely on all that technological jiggery pokery.

I think recasting him would be a good idea if they ever plan on giving Luke a ton of screentime for something. But if he's only going to appear occasionally in whatever they want to put him, I think it's fine to continue what they're doing.

Recasting will probably be necessary in the future, but for how this show turned out, the CGI was borderline-necessary. The S2 finale simply wouldn't have had the same impact with a recast. Even if the CGI was janky, once he took off his hood your brain still got that immediate confirmation that yes, this is 100% Luke Skywalker who just swooped in and saved the day. A recast would've left that lingering doubt in too many people's heads, and no matter who they picked, it's invariable that a lot more people would be complaining online about the casting choice than the janky CGI.

When and if the day comes when classic characters like Luke need to be recast, I think it'd be wiser to announce it in advance, and give fans time to acclimatize to the change.

it's invariable that a lot more people would be complaining online about the casting choice than the janky CGI.

I have a particular finger for those people. They've sunk up to their eyebrows in the muck of comfy nostalgia.

Or to put it more specifically, they've seen a technology that could maybe give some passing semblance to a person who no longer exists anymore (Mark Hamill has not looked like that in twenty years, charitably) and selling them the lie of a comforting youth that they've lost.

Honestly it's starting to scare me how fixed I've seen some fans on this. They're mostly on Twitter, but God, it's almost horrifying to see how heavily they latched onto this.

since there's a spin-off series of Ahsoka Tano in the works, im sure Luke will appear as well even if its more as a side-character...

weird how midway through the season, the show seems to forget that Bobba was supposed to be the main protagonist given that its titled after him and all.

yet those are still some of the best episodes of the show so far! lol

Well...yes. That was my entire point. You 'knew' that it was Luke about halfway through the scene, but seeing his face erased any lingering doubt. And you may not think so now, but you would have been left at least slightly disappointed if you hadn't seen his face.

I remember distinctly. I was literally... LITERALLY during that scene saying under my breath "don't show his face don't show his face don't show his face" because I know it'd be a CGI truss-up. I have a Facebook post from that date to corroborate.

So please don't tell me what I would think.

Luke only needed to be in the story to save the day and collect Grogu, and I still say they could have avoided that if they wanted to. Trying to turn him into a recurring character is going to increase reliance on this technology and I don't think it's good for the series, for Star Wars, or for live action media in general.

Fair enough, dude. I've seen enough show-watchers who geeked the fuck out during the scene while they were watching it only to heel-turn and get all huffy about the finer points afterwards, but Occam's razor can't apply to everyone.

The first 5 minutes of the ep with be a fast paced shoot-out with Fett, then the rest of the ep will be Mando slow walking around everywhere before being reunited with Grogu.
