The funny thing about small phones is that everyone on the Internet says that the OEMs should make them, but the buying public prefers larger devices.

I don't fully buy this though, it's kind of a catch 22. If there just aren't many smaller phone options then people won't buy them. The small ones don't seem to get as much marketing attention either so people may not even be aware they exist. And when there's a product imbalance it's not like it's really 1:1 all other things being equal besides size. So it turns into a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy at some point. It's not like people want to go without a phone at all, so there isn't going to be some big sales backlash, now you just have to take what you can get. I've actually reached a point where I'm just gonna try a new battery with my old phone cause that's the best way to get mine around my desired size without spending a lot.

I say go big or go home.

Part of the reason why I prefer larger devices is because they simply have the real estate for larger batteries, displays, and cameras. If I'm going to be spending flagship money, then I want the flagship experience.

But how much do you really need any of this? Even the way you talk about it is like a luxury good. I'm not trying to say what you can or can't enjoy with your money, that's fine, but these trends are eating at the broader consumer base too. Maybe I'm just in a very small minority and people don't really want what I want out of a phone

See this just illustrates the problem, if $400 passes for the budget tier, it's not really budget anymore. I used to get smartphones for under $100 and they worked okay enough for me. Though again I'm not super fancy, I don't care about having wireless charging or waterproofing, etc.

If people want their big phones that's fine, but even the budget ones are huge now, and I feel like the budget tier is slowly disappearing overall. I just want my exact phone body from like 2014 but with the performance boosts that come with time.

I just don't get phones I guess. Like they're this thing you basically need now but you're also supposed to buy a new one every year or two but they're priced like a desktop PC replacement but they're missing a lot of the functionality of a PC. I like smartphones enough but you probably don't really need much more than like GPS, but as long as those extraneous apps are available of course I'll use them. Even though they're slowly destroying the social fabric of humanity. Man we really fucked up deciding that everyone should own an always online pocket computer

And cops can push back on assignments like this. They need to, if the institutional powers are going to keep twiddling their thumbs about things like this. Yes it's uncomfortable to push back, but I don't see how it can be more uncomfortable than confronting a possibly lethal situation.

The problem is, I think most of the time the cops assigned to these things relish the opportunity. It's not like they just pluck some guys off desk duty for it, this is what they train for. And that's why any way you try to look at it, it gets hard to absolve individuals "just following orders", and this is why you get people wanting to tear down the whole system because it's an accountability failure at every level.

If you constantly rationalize things, then they'll just continue to see how far they can push the limit. I don't know why there is this tautology that because someone has authority/power, they therefore are surely acting in good faith. Actually I don't think that anyone anywhere on the political spectrum believes that, but they cherry pick instances where they do.

Okay, so are there going to be some kind of muscle implants too?

They've already done tons of research into this, and successfully have bypassed the spine (to an extent) without some invasive implant to the most vital and vulnerable part of the body. It seems like the real challenge is getting people to walk without some cumbersome mechanical harness, not sticking a chip in their head.

There are different types of being "fit" than being jacked. A lot of those guys, even if they are fit, aren't necessarily healthy given how much bad broscience surrounds that culture. I feel like endurance, cycling, hiking, rock climbing, etc. tend to skew more left.

I doubt there is a huge trend in reality though, people of different fitness levels come from all over the spectrum. The right wing skew in places like YouTube is because conservative men tend to have more fragile masculinity, and things like being physically strong are given a lot of value. Even if you're a left wing lifter, lifting isn't really part of your political identity

See, I thought the dungeons were a highlight of the older Zelda games, but exactly because they were so constrained and linear (relative to BotW). A dungeon was kind of a distillation of that concept. Though there's also an element of the reward being something that will give you more ability to explore, so that desire for openness was not lacking. But again, that's why BotW works, and I think that's why the dungeons being as they were was a necessary sacrifice.

Plus the shrines were fun, there were many more interesting puzzles than we've seen in past Zelda games. I like how someone says it was just HL2 cause it uses physics. Might as well just say that every Zelda up through SS was just OoT then

I don't understand the "just make BotW with old style dungeons lol it's that easy" take. The design of the old style dungeons is directly at odds with giving you near complete freedom, unless you want it to be like you get a special item in the dungeon and then it has no use outside of it or something.
