This isnt just a US issue, though Americans tend to be more outspoken of these kind of things. Montreal has been run by the mafia for decades for example, and people just sit around and accept it. Same with police brutality and racism. My brother had a few run ins with the law in his youth (over fairly petty and dumb things) and hes often be called a dirty immigrant and told to go back to his country. |

Why are you writing this off like it's not a big deal worth the courts or anyone's time?You... realize not every court case is about CS... right? This would burden the entire system. And no, I dont think granting the right to skip out on financially responsibility towards their own offspring is worth everyone elses time, effort and money. Wrap it up or be ready to pay up. Text messages, witnesses testimony from both parties family and freinds, what they're prior relationship was like and so on.Yes, lets just have the courts sit around and review hundreds or thousands of texts over a 9 month period (or more), and spend countless hours going over testimonies. Lets just have big trials for every CS case. Im sure our already shitty court system can handle that. People wont mind if their cases get pushed back a couple of more years, right? |

I dont believe taxpayers should be stepping up to pay for every unwanted kid any more than we already do. The father should also have responsibility. And yeah the idea that we would have to sign contracts every time we have sex is just not something anyone wants to do. Too many possible appeals as well. Cleo_II 05/29/20 9:33:50 AM #275 | BathroomWater posted... Im not the one youre responding to here but you never answered my earlier question what if the woman also chose not to use birth control? 90% of the women Ive been with have preferred sex without a condom. It doesnt matter who makes the decision on what birth control is used. The point is someone has to support the life that was created. Both parties are making the decision to have unprotected sex here, or the man is agreeing to put full responsibility of birth control on her. Even if a woman in your example doesnt want to use a condom, the man still has a choice to agree to that or not. As for her changing her mind, stuff happens. Pregnancy can stir emotions in women. Its not some nefarious motivation. Two adults having sex should be prepared for those kinds of consequences. Just like a man could also change his mind and decide he doesnt really want a child when he thought he did. So in a similar example, lets say men could withdraw from paying CS if they didnt want a child. What if a man told a woman he wanted the baby and would stick by her, then changed his mind when the kid is born and tells the courts he never wanted it? Should he or should he not pay? How are the courts to sit around and make a decision on every single case like this? Men saying theyll stick around only to abandon their child happens all the time. If you gave men the option to choose, a good chunk of them are going to lie to get out of paying. |

Cleo_II 05/29/20 12:31:54 AM #149 | cjsdowg posted... There should be a financial abortion.I personally dont think that women should bear all the physical risks of pregnancy alone. I think we should design a system where we can hook mens brains into it so they can feel every cramp, nausea attacks, back aches, or birth pains. Also if the woman dies in childbirth, so should the man. It will be like the matrix but for pregnancy. Its only fair. |

My friend went into early labor recently and ended up in the ICU. She had multiple seizures and passed out. Doctors managed to save her and the babys lives, but she had mobility and vision issues for weeks. The baby stayed at the hospital a couple of weeks before she can bring him home. She has always been healthy, active and with no underlying issues. No one should get to decide if a woman should take that sort of risk or not. |

I am one of those taxpayers and I do want to have such robust social safety nets that everybody is able to feel that they can be a single parent without having to struggle, and I am not alone in that desire. You don't get to make things up and then use it as an argument. I am not saying that you actually are a right winger, I'm saying that in this case you're using a right winger argument. Because you absolutely are. You are literally arguing "if you don't want babies then keep your legs closed." That is 100% a right wing stance that we on the left are supposed to vehemently oppose when it's used to say that women shouldn't have abortions...until we start talking about financial abortion, when suddenly a bunch of people like you act like it becomes a valid argument when it's applied to men.I have said that sex has consequences for women and men. That is a fact. Adults should make careful decisions regarding sex and pregnancy. Im not sure what else to say to you because you seem to be foaming at the mouth to try and make this a political thing when it isnt. Ive said my piece on this. Make what you want of it, Im done with your mental masturbation. |

Cleo_II 05/28/20 11:19:57 PM #101 | Tenlaar posted... What's "with it" is that you're repeating the most common right wing anti-abortion argument, which is "if you don't want babies then just keep your legs closed." It's a bad argument when they use it and it's a bad one when you use it too. I don't consider "women have to accept the possibility of an unwanted pregnancy and the associated consequences if they have sex so if it happens she'd better just be ready to step up" to be a valid argument in the year 2020, and the same argument is not more valid when applied to men.Sex = possible consequences. Thats just life. Women also face consequences. Choosing between keeping a child or not is a serious decision. Both abortion and pregnancy have risks, emotional, physical and financial. Women also should be conscious of them and careful. But the fact is, it is their choice to make because of those physical risks that men dont have. And the government and tax payers are not going to want to have to pay any more than they already do. Who do you think will step up and pay for all these kids guys want to abandon? onedarksoul posted... Thinking a bit more on this, every woman I've talked to about this who agreed with men having a choice to opt out was either a) decently well off or more or b) independence minded.lol dude I make six figures and have always been independent. So you're going full on right winger and going with "if you don't want kids then you should just never have sex" as an argument?Wtf is with this right winger stuff? Lmao, its always funny to see people turn it political if someone doesnt agree with them. If you have sex then you accept the possibility of an unwanted pregnancy and the associated consequences. Its really that simple. Do your best to be careful, but if she gets pregnant anyway then you better be ready to step up financially. The wrap it up comment is because most guys expect the woman to be 100% responsible for birth control and then whine if they have to be responsible for the consequences of an unwanted pregnancy. Its comical. |

Cleo_II 05/28/20 10:40:33 PM #77 | If the father can just walk away without needing to financially support their child, it will end up just being more of a burden on taxpayers than it already is. Its just not going to happen. If guys dont want kids, then they should protect themselves and try not to stick their dicks in crazy. Its not like women just get away with no consequences of an unwanted pregnancy. Raising a child on your own is no walk in the park. |
