This. Most people in their 60s have homes that are mortgage free worth close to a million. Many I know don't show off and buy expensive name brand stuff. It's very common. People don't say it and let others know.

I'll probably have a net worth of over a million by my 50s if things go accordingly. Not a million sitting in a bank account. It's nothing to show off about really.

Long time ago I went on a family summer vacation to Cleveland. One of my father's old friend lived in the area and invited us to a BBQ. We pulled up into a 3 story mansion with pool just as big as the house. Never saw most of the house apart from the bathroom since we hung out at the pool.

That makes a big difference since there's usually not a reason to have this much in a bank unless you're running a business and your operating needs require that much. Unless you're counting investment accounts.

That said, I do know a few people who pay millions in taxes each year and will have over a million in their checking accounts at some point.

Millionaires aren't that "rich" in all honesty in terms of cost of living/etc..

In Australia, there's 1.18 millionaires... in a population of about 25 million; so a little under 5% or 1 in 20.

Granted with the plummeting AUD now, a millionaire in AUD is even less in USD terms.

A decent amount of my dad's side of the family owns very large homes they bought for very cheap back in the 70s or 80s. They're all that perfect age to have lived through all the most economically prosperous times available to them, and it shows.

That's a huge concern if people aren't motivated. The same thing could be said about people with average homes that become mortgage free so they start working part time just enough to get by and fuck around. It's sad really.

It's a reason why some parents don't give their kids money after they pass away. A lot of these people don't know how hard that person worked just to get that money.

If my kids as adults don't have the right mindset I'd rather donate the money to a hospital or something where they can get a new machine cause it'd help out more people. Sitting at home wasting life away getting drunk and playing video games is a sad state.
