When it comes purely to "completing the Pokedex," I actually prefer the more recent games, since it's entirely possible to do without jumping through insane hoops. Ever since Gen 1, up until Sword/Shield, it has never been possible to complete the Pokedex without having, at some point, taken part in some silly, over the top event, such as going to GameStop to get a certain Pokemon, or what have you. The fact the Switch games actually specifically define the Pokedex to things you can entirely achieve in-game is nice, from a completion point of view. Yes, the limited Pokedex creates new issues, but when it comes strictly to completing the Pokedex, it's easier and more rewarding than ever. Agreed. I do like that the games now have a really good reward (the shiny charm) for completing the realistically-doable Regional Pokedex, and the National Pokedex is still there in Home for the really dedicated players to try and complete if they so desire. I had the Nat Dex complete in Home up through S/V's base game, but I didn't buy the DLC and haven't bothered to try and trade for the new legendary Pokemon added. --- https://i.imgur.com/PmF1p9q.jpg |

Unlike most other sports, the league has no power to remove those refs and we have to watch them make it all about themselves game in and game out. Baseball has the same problem with their umpires. It's why Angel Hernandez is still around, being the worst fucking umpire you've ever seen, blowing calls left and right while power-tripping and ejecting anyone who argues with him. MLB even started doing league-wide umpire evaluations to objectively quantify just how shit at his job Angel Hernandez is, and they still can't fire him. I wouldn't be surprised if some MLB umpires also have money on games like I'm sure some NBA refs do. The most trouble I've actually had so far is trying to find Surskit in Sapphire. It's probably in a gen 4 game anyway. You can find Surskit by surfing on Route 229 (a post-game area) in Platinum, and it's very common there. https://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/location/283.shtml#platinum DarkChozoGhost posted... I think those are the few pokemon you still technically need third gen games for, even though you can catch them natively. Mawile and Sableye can be caught in HG/SS through a postgame swarm on Route 9 (Sableye in HG and Mawile in SS) and Seedot can be found on Headbutt trees in Viridian Forest as well. Do they at least simplify a lot of the evolutions in the newer games? Ahahahahahaha... no. Most Pokemon still evolve with basic methods (level-up, stone, happiness, etc.) but the "unique" evolution methods just get more and more convoluted as the generations go on. You have Pokemon that evolve when they land 3 critical hits in the same battle, Pokemon that evolve only after they've used a certain move a certain number of times without healing, Pokemon that evolve when they do a certain amount of damage to themselves with recoil moves without fainting, even a Pokemon that requires you to physically turn your 3DS/Switch upside down when it levels up to evolve it. I have a pile of gen 4 games and I'm wondering how much of the Pokedex I can complete between them. Aside from the Regis (because they require gen 3 transfers or an event) and event-only mythicals, I'm pretty sure you can obtain every Pokemon from gen 1-4 if you have all 5 of the gen 4 games. However, the methods for some of them might be annoying (PokeRadar, Honey/Headbutt trees, the Johto Safari Zone's time gates, etc.) and some of them might require doing multiple playthroughs like the gift Kanto/Hoenn starters in HG/SS. Even without including event-only mythicals, there are still some Pokemon who can't be obtained in any of the Switch games and need to be transferred from the 3DS or Go, though I'm guessing that all of them will be finally obtainable in the upcoming Legends Z-A.

The last legends game had mixed starters from different gens. You think they'll do that again? Or will they try to get people to like the gen 6 starters by giving them megas? My guess is they'll do mixed starters at the start of the game but also include the gen 6 starters and give you one of them for free partway into the game. It would be a throwback to how X/Y gave you a gen 1 starter as a second starter partway into that game too. As for which mixed starters... I don't think they'll use any of the other Johto/Unova/Alola starters because those were represented in the first PLA, and I don't think they'll use any Paldea starters so soon after S/V, which leaves the Kanto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Galar starters as possible options. I'll make my preliminary guess and say Charmander, Piplup, Grookey, and we get a new Mega Charizard Z, Mega Empoleon, and Mega Rillaboom along with them. Then we also get mega evolutions of the three Kalos starters too. Phantom_Nook posted... depends on if they include every single Pokemon that got a mega in XY/ORAS. that might preclude the Gen 1 and 3 starters from getting new evos like the Legends trio did. That's a possibility too. If they include all of those by default, then I don't think any of the Kanto or Hoenn starters would be among the mixed starters in this game.
