They got Ray Manzarek to produce and play keyboards on their first few albums because he read a review of an X show in the newspaper where they were called trash and he just had to see what they were all about. That is pretty impressive, but his keyboard really stands out. I've never had a problem with the vocals, but I tend to take a lot of things as they come like that. Wrong is excellent! Listening to it you'd think it was recorded in the mid 90s but I think it was in 87 or 88. Way ahead of their time. I got into it at first because it was suggested to me that as a bass player I'd appreciate their stuff. The bass is so loud in the mix it almost reminded me a bit of Primus, even though the music of course sounds nothing like it. Rob's singing sounds a lot like Rollins on that record too. One was like FFT but slower (and not as good, though it was still good) and the other plays out how you explain in the OP. Man is this THE game if you like micromanaging your units though. Disgea has probably claimed the crown now but I was always constantly screwing around with unit formation and who had which items and which tarot cards to use and etc.. IIRC there were even little vampire units that would be useless coffins during the day haha. There are a few songs I really liked like Los Angeles, Hungry Wolf, and Motel Room in my Bed but overall I think Exene's vocals get REALLY grating after awhile. John Doe's voice is awesome though. Then they went hillbilly music for some reason haha. I am a huge fan of a Canadian band called Nomeansno to this day. This is a GREAT band, I love them. Part 2 has its share of problems but it has some real strengths like way way better sorceries. Part 1 is still the best, for the world design alone. Worst parts of 2 IMO would be: The Adaptability stat, the whole 'reduce your max HP when you die' thing, and the Soul Matching mechanic. When I first played the game I loved helping others with jolly co-op on the starter bosses, only to eventually have the game phase me out of being able to help. Speaking of which, any of you guys ever see a salt water croc up close? They are unbelievably huge. Like you hear "Oh, they can grow to 20 feet long" but what's most amazing is how friggin' WIDE they are too. They had one at the Cincinnati zoo lats time I went and it was like at least 5 feet across with the legs. I went to the Toledo Zoo as a little kid for years and went back for a visit 4 years ago and it's been completely redone and made 100x better. The tigers and other big cats especially used to be in these little barred cages with almost no room, now they have huge enclosures and their old cages have been converted into a huge cafeteria (this is way cooler than it sounds). It also has a fantastic aquarium. They have an alligator snapping turtle, and I almost wonder if it could possibly be the same EXACT friggin turtle I used to see as a 6 year old kid all those years ago? I mean it could be. The thing about that game is that as soon as you win it you want to immediately start playing it again. At least I always have. It helps that the first half of the game is also the best designed. The magic in that game is really awesome though so I'd suggest playing with at least some sorceries. Constantly regenerating enemies the instant you leave the section of the screen and come back. That's a big one.
