Do you still think there was negligence on the Dad's part since his kids got out of the house on their own while he fell asleep?

31 y/o Dustin Dennis from Oklahoma, the father accused of leaving his young son and daughter in his HOT TRUCK for FIVE HOURS has been RELEASED from jail after video showed that the kids CLIMBED into his vehicle on their own!!

Investigators reviewed the footage from the neighbor's property that day and showed his 4 y/o daughter, Tegan and 3 y/o son, Ryan getting into his truck but not coming out.

The Tulsa attorney presented new evidence to the judge who initially set his bond to 750,000 and now no charges are being laid.

He was initially arrested for 2 second degree murder warrants and his court date was set on Friday

He told police he took his children to a QuikTrip store at noon and came home and went inside to sleep for 4-5 hours.

Dennis said he woke up and was unable to find his kids until he made the horrifying discovery of the kids in his truck hours later in there as temperatures were in the 90s

Dennis called 911 and moved the children in the living room where paramedics quickly arrived but said it was too late and pronounced the kids dead

The DA said video surveillance footage showed that the kids managed to get into the truck and tragically never got out as he said it's always important to note that the constitution guarantees presumption of innocence for any person accused of a crime.

Do you still think there was still negligence on his part that he fell asleep and his 4 and 5 year old kids got out of the house on their own?

So many questions:

He keeps his truck unlocked?
HIs kids know how to open the doors but can't exit?
Did they not exit because they closed the door?
Why didn't the kids just leave if they didn't close the door?
Did the kids just go in the truck and fall asleep?
Did the kids climb in through the windows and get trapped?

voted no, but really I think there's *some* negligence. he slept for 5 hours while his kids were up?

also, it could be possible that he *told* them to go wait in the truck, but I guess there'd be no way of proving anything.

Yeah he shouldnt go to jail. His kids being dead probably had him feeling bad enough as is if he didn't intend for them to die.

Lots of people leave things unlocked. Not everyone grew up in high crime areas. Hell only reason I lock thinga is cause my grandma would lose her shit if I didnt lock doors when I came in.(her mother had someone come into he house and slit her throat.)

I mean I get that. Just pointing out leaving things unlocked arent all that uncommon. My stepfather used to get pissed at me cause id lock the door when id come in which made him have to dig his keys out (well actually his dumbass would knock to get someone to come to the door)

My best friends parents actually leave their door unlocked all the time. When I use to go over to see her, the door was always unlocked. Even now, I know many people who leave their doors unlocked. Cars, too... Some people may ask someone to grab something from the car and will say, "The door's already unlocked. and stuff... So, I can see that not being an issue...

I usually leave the vehicle doors unlocked when I'm at home. The house doors lock automatically except the outdoor door to the kitchen porch, which I usually leave unlocked (the inner door locks itself like all the others). If I'm home I usually leave the gate unlocked during the day but I lock it at night.

Not necessarily true.

When I lived on the west side of Columbus, OH it wasn't worth it to have some homeless dude bust your window for whatever change you had in your car.

I think they're saying to lock the bottom lock, but not the top lock where you need a key to open it. So, while the bottom lock is locked, the top lock is not... So, they're saying that it's ok to leave the top locked unlocked so no one is trapped in the house...

If I were to to walk out the frontdoor right now, without getting my keys first and closing the door behind me, I would have to wake up my mum to get back in.

not all locks are like that, even on front doors. some locks have an additional state for that mode (unlocked inside, locked outside) but still have a fully unlocked state and fully locked state.

(something like that anyway... the locks I'm thinking of actually always unlock from the inside, but I think there's a mode where they stay locked even if you unlock them to enter. but they can also be fully unlocked.)

For some reason that would be the English phrasing, despite the door not being locked.

Maybe there is a cultural/country thing going on here? There is no way to affect the internal hatches of a residential front door here from the outside without the key. Internal as in the latch that is unlocked with the key and the latch that moves when lowering the door handle.

the doors I know of have at least three states on the inside "switch" (little turning button thing that also can be pushed in). but I'm having trouble remembering exactly what the states are. I have muscle memory reflexes for locking them to make sure they're properly locked. I know two of the states are fully locked and fully unlocked.

the other state or states are something to do with one or both of:
- staying locked when you unlock it with a key. (the knob turns and allows you entry, but the door remains locked.)
- not staying locked when you close it. if the latch is depressed, the door becomes unlocked. I'm not even sure what this mode is for or why you would want it to do that. I just know that I always press the latch to make sure the door stays locked, otherwise if it's set the wrong way you close the door and it unlocks.

(these are internal doors though, not external doors. they're just the closest thing I'm familiar with to a door that is never unlocked from the outside, except maybe for apartment building doors.)

I think I know what hes talking about. Some doors can be opened inside even if locked, but not from the outside. But in the end, thats still just locking yourself out. Like, if the switch it vertical and out, its unlocked. If its vertical and pushed it, its locked from the outside. But if you turn the knob from the inside, it unlocks the outside. And if its in and horizontal, its locked. And turning it wont unlock it. But you can still go outside. And using a key from the outside does the same thing. Unlocking it if in the second position I mentioned, and keeping it locked if in the third position. It sounds like in his country, its like that maybe... At least, it sounds sort of like that. The most recent time Ive worked with those was at my other job...
