Never understood why DQ7 is so highly regarded, I thought it was the worst one by far.

Christ almighty it took forever but I finally found somebody else who thinks so!

I had the PS1 original and my god I hated it- it took forever, it was super boring.. And I love these games. I know what they entail, the grinding doesn't bother me at all.. but could never get into this each time I tried.

I bought the 3DS remake day one, because I wanted so badly to like the damn thing. I just couldn't. There are some improvements but by not incorporating visible encounters correctly they somehow made the pacing worse.

I've played every mainline game except for 6 and 10. 7 is dead last. The first NES game is better. DQ2 is better. I've tried way too much to like DQ7 but it's just not good.

Absolutely agree.

I'd also say the same goes for games- there are just so many out there and available to everyone that as soon as people get stuck on something they're very quick to move on to the next thing. Compare that to when I used to get a bad NES game I'd try to stick with it for a long while because I wasn't swimming in choices like we are now.

DQXI is really fun but really long (fair warning if you're looking for a 30-40 hour RPG).

I took my time with it but was only in the second act and had over 90 hours with it. Most of the reason was I had super strong monsters (challenge option) on for a long time so I kept dying and had to grind more than usual.

The main thing is that this new trilogy should've been planned out well in advance and it wasn't.

Although they're commonly used to cut and bend small wires and electrical wiring, needle-nose pliers have other uses, as well. They can bend, cut and grip where fingers and other tools are too big or clumsy. Needle-nose pliers are good for reaching into tight spots where regular pliers are unwieldy.

In retrospect, it'd be Force Awakens but honestly knowing what we know now and the direction the new trilogy has taken it's just all shit. I can't believe Disney didn't plan the whole thing out a bit more (or at all).

At the end of Force Awakens we were so excited for the next movie- Luke was going to come back and start kicking major ass. And well you all know what happened. Then the "Rise of Backpedaling".. bah.

Rogue One had a lot of promise (Vader ending- need I say more?) but honestly I didn't care about the characters. That's what a Star Wars movie really needs. Without any sort of emotional investment in the characters anything they are put through doesn't mean much in the end. I can still watch a classic Star Trek episode from 1966 through cheesy effects and all because the chemistry of Kirk / Spock / Bones is so great even today. The only main character I ever remember from Rogue One was the droid. Well, him and the blind guy I suppose.

It's always going to be Empire / Return of the Jedi / New Hope for me. Those are the ones I saw as a kid in the theater, the ones I watched a billion times over the years. Really the only ones that never let me down. Maybe in 50 years somebody can do something again to make this franchise great again, movie-wise.

Nice! Any cool or interesting game dev stories?

Nothing too interesting or earth-shattering. I'm a regular dude who goes to work at a normal job and basically spends all my free time making games on the side. I've been at it to some degree since 1987, but haven't really hit the 'big time' or anything I guess unless you count when I first discovered Steam in 2015. I don't answer to any higher ups that make me do ridiculous crunch but the way I am it's probably almost the same thing haha.

For the most part I do all aspects of game making myself. So the program / story / art / and music. There's a couple exceptions here and there (ex. I only did 2 pieces of music on my roguelike Equin: The Lantern). Lately I've been writing music using real instruments for my stuff, which sounds like it'd be jarring to see pixel MS Paint graphics w/ distorted guitars and drums that sound like they were recorded in a garage (they kind of were!)

Maybe the best story I had was I had worked on Hasslevania 2: This Space for Rent for a total of 9-1/2 years before calling it quits and moving onto something else. That kind of sucked, but it's a good life's lesson and I'm glad it's way past me now.

Thanks, Sully. I appreciate the nice words. How does the Switch kit work exactly? Curious: If my game has a single folder with the exe and then (for externals, created upon save) a numerical array, and 2 lists that are kind of like notepad files. Then the ini for the option saves and unlocks. Everything is in one folder. Do you just move everything over onto a special dev machine for testing? I have no idea how that'd work.

After working on this thing for about three and a half years, the game is finally in the can and out!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1256520

The gist is that King Fatass has declared all the world's food his, and steals all the reserves from a tribe of cultists next door. Too hungry (and too cowardly) to fight, a plan is hatched: Resurrect a skeleton slave to venture to Castle Fatass and steal the food back. Oh and kill King Fatass and his goons while you're there!

The food acts as currency too, so you as the player can choose how much to return and how much to spend for yourself at the shops. Returned food is stored and can be used during the game's second mode "Old School", which is more of a timed attack with a special shop to buy things right away at the start.

Thanks for hearing me out, here's the trailer:

The best advice I ever got for Blighttown was to always look for the torches, as they mark where the ladders are. But yeah before you get the Lordvessel and let's say you save down at Ash Lake you have to climb ALLLLL the way back through the Great Hollow and up through Blighttown and it sort of sucks.

Ehh, not really. With the terraforming features and having up to 8 guests at once you can do much more. People have set up mazes, races, musical chairs, and other games. You can also host parties.

Oh okay great thanks, I was really hoping there'd be no steps backwards this go 'round.

If you're going STR you should for sure give the Great Club a try, probably my favorite weapon in the game. You can find it in lower Blighttown in one of the corners of the swamp.

IIRC at +15 and no buffs you can hit for like 600-700 damage a pop with it. Plus enemies like those oysters are weak to its blunt damage.

Not sure if sad or hilarious

No, the remastered for sure fixes the framerate. As somebody who suffered through the 360's Blighttown 3FPS action I noticed it immediately.
