Georg Weissmann, the Faceless was pretty up there. Liked to put people through traumatic experiences to break them, then rebuild their minds as he saw fit. Had the idea of mind controlling someone and forcing them to kill the one person they loved most, then breaking that control while they were standing over the corpse.

Morgoth (or Melkor), who was Saurons master is another one. He was pretty much the devil for the extended LotR mythos.

Father from Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood (and the manga). Manipulated nations leaders to turn their entire populaces into philosophers stones to power him so that he could consume god.

I used to be in the hyper conservative crowd on the whole wage and healthcare debates (my whole family was, and I was raised that way). Then we got hit with a series of crap while I was in college, that was fully unavoidable, and knocked us from upper-middle class to poverty levels in a year.

I lost my scholarship due to illness, and maxed out several credit lines with medical debt, and accrued tons of student loan debt to finish school from there.

Despite applying for jobs almost everyday since I graduated 2 years ago, I am still stuck at a crappy retail job (making between $11 and $12 an hour depending on the day of the week), partially supporting my mother. I don't exactly have the money to move (still paying off my debts). And there are legitimately jobs around here that require degrees and/or experience, that are paying at or around minimum wage (assuming they are not unpaid internships). Things like paralegals or medical assistants, are being payed less than $10 an hour here. And some of those jobs want you to have 8 years or more of experience.

Since I actually hit the real world, my opinions have changed on it from how its described in conservative talking points.

At least my credit score is very good (2nd highest tier). I am really good at paying my debts on time. I just can't afford much else.

The original cut is better

90% of the time, the theatrical release is better than the directors cut.

That being said, the sequel, Aliens, by James Cameron has a better directors cut as well as his next film Terminator 2.

Pretty much.

For Alien, I prefer the theatrical. For Aliens, I prefer Directors cut. Alien 3s directors cut actually changes a couple plot points of the film (most notably the creature the Alien gestates in). Regardless of which version of A3 you watch though, its a very love it or hate it film. As far as Resurrection goes...just don't. Seriously, don't.

And if you have not watched the Terminator films, watch the Directors cut of T2 when you get to it. The theatrical cut is already a classic, and the directors cut only adds to that. There is even an alternate ending on some versions of the Directors cut (some you have to type in a code for). It was actually Camerons original planned ending that actually wrapped up and finalized the story, before he was forced to make something more open ended (still a good ending though) so the studio could milk the franchise with perpetually worse films.

I think indexing wages to inflation could be more appealing politically instead of fighting on $15 or whatever. It's a start.

If anyone's interested I can try to locate another study I read that compared the economic effects on a $9 minimum to a $10.10 minimum.

I think both need to be done honestly. Wages are simply too low now for many workers. Simply tying it to inflation will mean that they are perpetually struggling. Simply increasing it is a temporary fix until inflation wipes those gains out.

Increase it to an acceptable level, then tie it to inflation and be done with it.

Pumping min wage puts more people in a higher tax bracket and gives them more income to be taxed. It directly increases the amount of taxes the government gets every year as a whole.

It boosts base prices of products and services in the area though, which hurts those with the least amount of income the most proportionally. This doesn't just stop at food being more expensive, or other products you buy (or services you pay for), but can spread to rent and other costs as well. Even without factoring in companies cutting back on hours, not offering as many benefits, and not offering raises (or invalidating previous raises by making the new min wage higher then the employee was getting after working somewhere 10 years), large bumps in minimum wage create chaos/havok in the job market. I've seen this personally, and it's not getting better anytime soon.

I seriously doubt that small of an increase in minimum wage is going to throw someone into a higher tax bracket. Even if that is the case you don't go home with less money, as only the amount above the bracket is taxed at the higher percentage. For example (currently) from your 1st to 9,325th dollar you pay 10%. From your 9,326th to 37,950th, 15%. You don't pay 15% on the whole amount, just that latter portion.

As far as companies raising prices to compensate, that will be solved overtime by competition. If one grocery store raises their prices, and the one across the street does not, the 1st will lose a significant chunk of its business to the 2nd. Further, if everyone of a companies customers had more disposable income, that is simply more money for that business to attract to offset loses from increased wages. Also, companies are always looking for an excuse to increase prices, such as when gas prices spiked under Bush. But historically wage increases have always netted in long term economic growth. There is an equilibrium though (as with most things), and the closer you get to it, the more diminishing returns on the above. But right now I would argue we are pretty far below it.

But yes, most peoples wages should go up, as they have been stagnant across the board for almost 30 years, despite increases in workload, productivity, and profits. Well, except for a very small group of people.

Almost certainly that.
Bill $100, but only get paid $33, you're billing $300 next time.

However, if you follow inflating costs backwards, the three biggest instigators are the inability to divert emergency care, a drastic increase in malpractice lawsuits (and thus a drastic increase in malpractice insurance costs) in the 90s, and then a string of high-profile lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies soon after (and ongoing).

Tort reform would clear a bunch of this shit up, immediately.

Well, medical malpractice is the 3rd leading cause of death in the US. So most of those lawsuits are probably justified.

You already do, twice (once at the insurance level, and again at the care level). And then multiplied for overblown charges (like several hundred dollars for saline).

Any increase in taxes that would result from this would be offset by not having to pay an insurance company, or the things the insurance company does not cover.

1. Have 100% of their wealth confiscated in restitution for the survivors and the families of the deceased.

2. Be thrown in prison for gross negligence leading to loss of life.

3. Be prevented from ever heading or managing a business again if they ever get out of prison.

Ya, US measurements are screwed up, and we did not join the rest of the world in the 60 and 70s when they left the old measurement systems behind (just another thing the US is lagging behind in).

Though that chart is a bit off. Celsius is based off the freezing and boiling point of water, nothing more. Fahrenheit has a few conflicting stories on its origin, but they are all pretty silly (one based on recording the hottest and coldest days of the year to mark as 100 and 0, another states is was based on the freezing point of brine compared to the temperature of the human body).

The Crusades actually started when the Byzantine Empire requested military aid from the Pope to repel Turkish invaders. They were a very complex collection of a multitude of events. Some were defensive wars, others offensive, or retaliatory. Some were mercenaries doing their own shit. All of Europe was involved in a shit storm of power struggles before, during, and after the Crusades.

To use them as nothing more than a point to say "Christians bad" way oversimplifies the events that took place, and completely ignores the fact that all of Europe was bad regardless of what faith, or lack thereof people followed. It was such a chaotic mess of a time with so many conflicting records of what happened, that historians are still trying to piece everything together.

Now the Spanish Inquisition on the other hand is pretty clear cut. That and the Salem witch trials. Those are fair game. Unless you want to pick out specific events that took place during the Crusades, like the Massacre of Antioch. However, though that was completely barbaric, it was a common practice at the time for invading armies regardless of faith. Because again, the world really sucked back then.
