No, they are

Eisas killing, near their village of Tekoa, is part of what the United Nations, human rights groups and locals say is a surge of violence by extremist Israeli settlers and security forces against Palestinians in the West Bank since Oct. 7. While international attention has been focused on Hamas terror attack and Israels aerial and ground assault of Gaza, watchdogs say the killings here have been encouraged and even aided by Israels security forces and hard-right government which has openly armed the settlers with rifles and military gear while whipping up anti-Palestinian rhetoric.

While there is no official confirmation of who killed Eisa, settlers wearing military uniforms is an increasing trend, according to watchdogs, and Murad says after years of living with these tensions he can distinguish between who is a settler and who is military.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/palestinians-say-israeli-settlers-are-seizing-west-bank-homes-by-force/ar-AA1k3z9G
The Ministry of Health in the West Bank says almost 200 Palestinians have been killed in the territory since Oct. 7, and the United Nations humanitarian relief agency OCHA says almost 1,150 people have been displaced from their homes there due to settler violence and land access restrictions.

Among those displaced are around 400 men, women and children from ethnic Bedouin families in the village of Wadi Al Seeq, according to Abu Basher, an elder from the community of Arab herders. He shared cellphone video with CBS News that appears to show armed settlers forcing him and others to leave at gunpoint at the end of October.

"People were bleeding, and women and children were screaming," he said. "I was terrified my wife and children would be slaughtered."

Basher said the settlers destroyed their homes and property, even their local school, and stole money, cellphones and valuable livestock.

"I am so depressed. All my hard work over the past 48 yearsall gone," he said. "I still haven't processed the shock I have lost all hope."

Some of the displaced Bedouins have been living in tents on land belonging to a neighbor temporary shelter while they try to get back on their feet.

Activist Mohammed Mattar was helping protect the Bedouins after they said they'd received death threats from the settlers, but it turned out it was Mattar who needed protecting.

He said settlers kidnapped him and two others, stripped them naked and then beat and tortured them for more than eight hours.

https://www.npr.org/2023/11/19/1214024420/gaza-israel-al-shifa-hospital-evacuation
A team of medical and humanitarian aid groups successfully evacuated 31 premature babies from Al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza on Sunday, the Palestine Red Crescent Society announced.

They were transported to the south of Gaza to the Emirates Hospital in Rafah by PRCS ambulances, the group said.

The evacuation was organized by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Just a day earlier, a joint United Nations humanitarian assessment team, led by the WHO, entered Al-Shifa to see first-hand the dire circumstances of the facility, the groups said.

They found piles of medical and solid waste filling the crowded corridors of Gaza's largest hospital, according to the WHO. The team saw a mass grave by the hospital's entrance and was told at least 80 bodies were lying there, the WHO said.

This team's trip only lasted an hour and was "deconflicted" with Israel's military to ensure safe passage, the group said.

In that time, they found that several patients have died in the previous two to three days due to medical services shutting down in the facility, according to the WHO. And now there are just 25 health workers for the 291 remaining patients. The premature babies were considered to be in "extremely critical condition," the WHO said.

The hospital reported it lost power after running out of fuel to run their generators this past week, causing the death of some patients.

U.N. representatives described the formerly advanced and best equipped referral hospital in Gaza now as a "death zone."

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/biden-administration-urges-us-court-uphold-asylum-restrictions-2023-11-08/
A lawyer for the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday told an appeals court that a judge was wrong to block a rule imposing new restrictions on asylum seekers at the U.S.-Mexico border.

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Pasadena, California, heard the government's appeal of a decision that said the rule adopted earlier this year violates federal immigration law, which explicitly states that crossing the border illegally should not be a bar to asylum.

The challenge to the rule was brought by immigrant advocacy groups represented by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

Biden, a Democrat, took office in 2021 pledging to reverse many of the hardline policies of Republican former President Donald Trump, but has adopted many strict border measures as record numbers of migrants have been caught crossing illegally.

The regulation presumes most migrants are not eligible to apply for asylum if they passed through other nations without seeking protection there first, or if they crossed the border illegally instead of arriving at a designated port of entry.

The 9th Circuit in August paused the judge's ruling that blocked the rule, allowing it to remain in effect pending the outcome of the appeal.

Brian Boynton of the U.S. Department of Justice argued on Tuesday that the rule is valid because rather than categorically barring asylum for migrants, it includes various exceptions to rebut the presumption that they are ineligible.

Through September, 12% of migrants who had applied for an exception under the rule had received it, Boynton said.

But that statistic merely shows that the vast majority of migrants are being barred from even being considered for asylum because of the way they entered the U.S., in violation of immigration law, ACLU lawyer Spencer Amdur told the court.

"Such a small exception cant be what makes the difference to the rules legality," Amdur said.

The judges did not indicate how they were leaning during the hour-long hearing. But two of them noted that federal immigration law appears to give the government broad discretion to consider any relevant factors in deciding who ultimately receives protections.

https://web.archive.org/web/20231114101305/https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/11/14/trump-univision-biden-election/
When Donald Trump ran for reelection in 2020, his campaign called Univision, the nations most influential Spanish-language network, a leftist propaganda machine and a mouthpiece of the Democrat Party.

We shall treat them accordingly, top advisers promised.

Three years later, Trump is treating Univision and its new corporate owners like long-lost friends. He hosted a trio of its executives at Mar-a-Lago last week during an hour-long Univision interview that was notable for its gracious tone, starting with a question about how well he is doing among Latino voters in early general election polling.

Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, a friend of one of the executives, helped arrange the interview and was also in the room, according to multiple people familiar with the event.

All you have to do is look at the owners of Univision. Theyre unbelievable entrepreneurial people, and they like me, Trump said in response to the question about Latino voters.

The reversal has shocked Democrats who are preparing a massive ad campaign to brand Trump as hostile to Latino interests and some journalists inside Univision, who think that the past week has demonstrated the heavy hand of their new corporate bosses. The Mexican media company Grupo Televisa, which has long fostered a close relationship with Mexican political leaders, merged with Univision in 2021.

The Democratic alarm further spiked two days later, when Univision advertising representatives told the Biden campaign that spots already purchased to run during the Trump interview in Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Florida had been canceled owing to a heretofore unannounced policy about opposition advertising in single-candidate interviews.

Univision also canceled a booking with Bidens Hispanic Media Director Maca Casado to respond to the Trump interview after it aired on the networks late news broadcast, according to people familiar with the details, who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity for this article because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Not since 2004, when former president George W. Bush outperformed expectations among Latino voters, has the Spanish-speaking population been so up for grabs in a presidential contest, according to early polling. Democrats now fear they are losing their access to a network that has been instrumental in past elections in aggressively reporting on Trumps immigration policies and their effect on Latino viewers.

The concerns were first raised in November 2022, when Univision took the unusual step of interrupting programming to cover Trumps Mar-a-Lago campaign announcement live. When Biden gave an Oct. 19 prime time address on Israel and Ukraine, the network cut away from the remarks midway, directing viewers to an online stream of the remarks, according to a Democratic media tracker.

The new ownership is essentially co-opting and kidnapping the soul and mission of what Univision has been up to now, and they are serving it up on a silver platter to Donald Trump, said Maria Cardona, a political consultant and member of the Democratic National Committee. It is going to mask the pernicious and dangerous politics that Donald Trump is going to implement if he becomes president again.

Semafor first reported the presence of three executives at the Nov. 7 interview TelevisaUnivision CEO Wade Davis as well as TelevisaUnivision Mexico co-CEOs Alfonso de Angoitia Noriega and Bernardo Gomez Martinez. Puck first reported the cancellation of ads and of the Biden official response to Trumps interview.
The Biden and Trump campaigns declined to comment for this article.

Over multiple campaign cycles, Univisions news division has long fostered a reputation for challenging power with abrasive questions. As a result, Republicans have largely steered clear of its airwaves.
...
Rather than use local talent for the interview, Univision flew in Enrique Acevedo, a journalist now working for Televisa in Mexico City, who has extensive experience reporting on politics in the United States. He co-moderated a 2016 Democratic presidential primary debate for Univision, and worked as a correspondent for CBS Newss 60 Minutes.

He left questions about immigration until the second half of the interview, avoided follow-ups and did not challenge Trump when he falsely claimed to have built a border wall paid for by Mexico or argued that President Barack Obama started the practice of child separation at the border. (Most of the Trump border wall was replacement fencing, and it covers a fraction of the border. There was no direct mechanism for Mexico to pay for it, despite an increase in trade tariffs. Obamas administration did sometimes separate migrant children from families in cases where the children were in danger, but did not separate families to deter border crossings like Trump.)

After the interview, Acevedo defended his approach on the social media platform X, suggesting a shift from the more confrontational style that has been Univisions calling card.

Im a reporter and my job is to ask questions, Acevado wrote in Spanish. Information should be the protagonist here.

https://www.nber.org/system/files/working_papers/w31010/w31010.pdf
Labor market tightness following the height of the Covid-19 pandemic led to an unexpected compression in the US wage distribution that reflects, in part, an increase in labor market competition. Rapid relative wage growth at the bottom of the distribution reduced the college wage premium and counteracted nearly 40% of the four-decade increase in aggregate 90-10 log wage inequality. Wage compression was accompanied by rapid nominal wage growth and rising job-to-job separationsespecially among young non-college (high school or less) workers. Comparing across states, post-pandemic labor market tightness became strongly predictive of real wage growth among low-wage workers (wage-Phillips curve), and aggregate wage compression. Simultaneously, the wage-separation elasticitya key measure of labor market competition rose among young non-college workers, with wage gains concentrated among workers who changed employers. Seen through the lens of a canonical job ladder model, the pandemic increased the elasticity of labor supply to firms in the low-wage labor market, reducing employer market power and spurring rapid relative wage growth among young noncollege workers who disproportionately moved from lower-paying to higher-paying and potentially more-productive jobs
