The union IF Metall increases the strike compensation to 130 percent of the salary for those participating in the strike against Tesla. "The strike fund is enough for about 500 years," says Jesper Pettersson, press officer at IF Metall.

IF Metall's strike against the multinational electric car giant Tesla is now in its third week. The conflict looks set to be protracted and today, Monday, November 13, the union is raising the compensation for those participating in the strike to a level that is higher than the Tesla salary.

I'm sort of doubtful that there's any way the union can afford to pay out increased salary for 500 years unless the vast majority of a workers' pay goes toward the union.

Edit to add it looks like it might be enough to cover the striking workers because the union that covers them goes back 150ish years and it's a small fraction of the union striking. Slightly more plausible understanding that.

Starting Friday, dockworkers in all Swedish ports will refuse to offload Teslas, cleaning crews will no longer clean showrooms, and mechanics wont fix charging points as the labor dispute rages on.

I wish Magda would have gotten more time as PM than 10 months cuz this is something she do. As Minister of Finance she is the one who pushed to remove karensdagen during the pandemic for example.

Could unions always do this? At this point the workers themselves have little to no incentive to end the strike under any circumstances and minus well milk this dry.

They're in this position because those who came before them acted in good faith towards what's best for their union members. Milking it dry would be the polar opposite of that; they'd be pulling the ladder up behind them.

Individuals and groups ladder raise all the time despite if given the opportunity and this is one such unique opportunity.

Which the union must be aware and idk why they chose Tesla of all companies to play this card on.

Yeah. Americans usually tend to have such a different mindset from us on these things. Much more selfish and greedy and seem to ruin things for themselves in the long run in favour of short term gain.
