I dont care? I worked in hospitality for years. Most people tipped 20ish percent, cause it's the standard. Standard hasnt been 15% for decades

Why did the "standard" increase? Percentage already scales with inflation, increasing the percentage is brain-dead. To be fair, the practice of tipping is brain-dead and it's one reason I avoid eating out. It's just a shitty experience.

I'm learning it has to do with the lunch hour. However (in my minute experience) this extra hour is losing its effect now Gen Z-ers are starting to gain supervisory/leadership roles.

They give zero craps and everyone's going home early every night once the boss is gone. If they can't leave, no one's doing any work anyway. I don't think Gen X bosses have any idea how brazen they are. The older gen can be lazy too, but they do that by not putting 100% in, ignoring issues, maybe they'll go home a bit early on the odd day. But Gen Z-ers will literally do nothing and just take the money if they can. But I'm not complaining.

Gen X's catchphrase was "everyone stays behind until this is done."

Gen Z's is "we're leaving an hour early tonight, no point starting anything now so just chill bro".

I'm a millennial and I'm down with that. I'll leave early quite a few days. I'm salaried so fuck 'em.

Gee, perhaps the correlation between the increase in number of workers in the labor market and stagnating wages is because now you needed two wages to get the same standard of living that one wage would get you in the past? The wages for unskilled laborers went down with the offshoring that was taking place. You're making excuses all over the place. If wages were truly going up for those with higher qualifications, we wouldn't have baristas with college degrees. Employers have a labor pool spanning the world to choose from. Employees are stuck fighting over shitty work that pays like shit and demands the world.

Maybe we should have more parents staying at home to raise children rather than putting them into daycare, then wages would tighten up and you wouldn't need two incomes. (Could be either the mom or the dad, doesn't have to be one gender over the other.) And maybe we could also tighten up border security so illegal immigration is less of a thing.

And maybe we should be teaching people to get degrees that are actually worth something. Not trash like gender studies.

No, under the galaxy brain system of capitalism, we'd be losing out on productivity/profit doing that which would be unacceptable. Instead we have both parents working for shitty wages to eek out a living and then have a whole class of even lower-paid nannies take care of people's babies. Then you get both parents working and you've created a job for a nanny.

and yet there's a clear correlation between the decline of unions and the stagnation of wages in the US. You two have fallen for the propaganda.
Correlation nothing; its pure and simple causation. The whole reason that capitalists lobbied for laws to restrict unions is in order to keep workers' wages low, because it means more profits. Its the intended effect of the decline of unions.

Unions have a history of racism in the United States. The federal minimum wage law was in large lobbied for by prominently white labor unions as a means to fuck over blacks in the labor market that were willing to work for less. It killed two birds with one stone crushing competition from those with lesser skills that were willing to work for less and it mandated that their employers be forced to pay them more than what they actually deserved. The federal min wage law is really the upper middle class minimal skilled white privilege act.

Hahahaha! You're trotting out every talking point of the rich propagandists. I feel like I'm replying to a PragerU video. If what you're saying was really the case, then perhaps the real racists are the employers thinking the labor of minorities isn't worth the minimum wage.

Imagine not thinking this. The union's mission statement is at least to fight for workers. Corporations don't even have that pretense.

A giant union caps your earning power and garnishes your wages for union dues. They're not all sunshine and rainbows and unless you're the lowest of unskilled labor, they are not useful for doing anything but introducing more bureaucracy and slowing down work.

Unions in the United States get their power by being glorified corporate firm nanny state public sector bloodsuckers that want to benefit at the expense of every other residents paycheck.

A tiny voluntarily private union made up of skilled employees has leverage to their employer where they can show theyre not dispensable to unskilled immigrant labor willing to work for less. It also helps them trim the fat of having to join together with unproductive slacker drug addicts that repeatedly be fuck ups that their higher ups give more chances to than they otherwise deserve.

Honestly I find that most complaints about capitalism are actually people annoyed with cronyism.

Cronyism is inherent in capitalism. If the government is too small to be decent cronies, private entities will just pay off other people to do their bidding, including private armies.

Monopolies exist largely because the government gets expanded and fat cats looking for corporate special interests go out to lobby for misleading pieces of legislation disguised as helping everyone but truly intended to stack red tape on any opposing competitors trying to enter a market. The idea that we need a large government to protect us from the corporations that are in bed with them is absurd lol.

Monopolies were more common before government involvement. Have you not heard of standard oil? The railroads? What doing to think Teddy Roosevelt was doing when he was trust busting?

Theodore Roosevelts policies paved the way for much of the garbage were dealing with today. Never mind the comical idea that his busting helped the little guy. Giant corporations like those in the meat industry sought out and lobbied for the very red tape regulatory oversight and pieces of legislation that Teddy called for because it would (and did) crush their competitors from having the opportunity to enter or thrive in the meat market.

Get rid of the government and the corporations become the new government. Unless we band together as a union, the government's all we got to curb the abuses of corporations.

I didnt say a thing about abolishing the government. Unions in the United States are worthless glorified corporate firms that are ironically enough lead by way higher income earning higher ups that are in charge of oversight of thousands of people in various companies. The United States laws arent set up to favor small unions as it isnt legal for a group of five to twelve people to unionize yesterday no questions asked to represent themselves.

Then what are you advocating for? Government small enough to drown in a bathtub? At some point it's ineffective to the point that it might as well not exist. Unions get their power from their size. A tiny union will just have all its members "let go" by the company in favor of non-unionized workers.
