Was thinking of buying this as a Christmas gift for someone but I'm a little worried about their privacy. Any thoughts?

What are they gonna do with the info?
"Guys, he's mostly Irish! We have to inform Russia!"

Like.....?

Some of the concerns I've seen are that researchers can use your DNA for research that could create pharmaceutical products that you may not support. Also, that law enforcement could potentially subpoena your DNA in certain situations. Also that your DNA information (among whatever else) could be subject to a data breach just like credit cards, etc.

if you're an American with a social security number, "they" already have all of the info needed on you if something were to happen.

My mom did it with my grandparents, and they loved it. If they don't like it, they don't have to spit in the cup or whatever.

Turns out my grandpa is 8% west African. He said that explains his big...nose

tell me youre not this naive? the obvious thing theyd do is sell it to insurance companies. and when they learn that youre predisposed to cancer, diabetes or whatever the fuck and your rates skyrocket... welp, good job selling yourself out lol.
I'm not American so that isn't a concern.
And anyone worried about police obtaining stuff.....don't do crime.

I've done it. Found out I'm more middle eastern than I thought.

But theres a lot of missing DNA. My mom is 100% black and my moms side only came back 34% African. Theres no other black dna either just a bunch of unknown.

I hear using African Ancestry is much better for Black people who are trying to get specifics.

What could the police feasibly use your DNA for if you haven't committed a crime?
Do tell.

No, but you might get added to a government database, so if you start committing crimes and leave a drop of blood at the crime scene, they'll be able to get you.
How on earth is this being presented as a negative?
