Home cinemas are generally cost prohibitive and still nowhere near the experience you get at watching a blockbuster on a screen the size of a house. You know this and you are definitely just being contrary.

The simple point being made here is that there are certain experiences you can't recreate at home. This is obviously true regardless of how much you want to find holes in each given simile.

Cheaper than going to the cinema each time, plus you can rewatch as much as you want, use it for all TV viewing and gaming, and resell when you're done. Plus you don't have to deal with annoying people in the audience.

pinky0926 posted...
No, for the most part you cannot, even with all the skill in the world. I know this because I used to live with one of these fancy assed chefs. You just do not have the equipment at hand to do this in any ordinary home kitchen.

Even proper stir fry can't be done at home, and that stuff is cheap street food.

The difference is not that big. Certainly nothing that would impact enjoyment of the meal and you'd have hundreds of dollars left over.

Can be, yeah.

Even though the taste will be about the same and likely indistinguishable? I eat food for the taste, not to stare at it. These elaborate arrangements do nothing for me. Congrats on having super expensives preferences, though. Do you post pictures of your food on social media?

So there's literally nothing you've ever spent money on that was an experience you can't reuse? Never been to an amusement park or a gig or kayaking or whatever?

A day at Cedar Point is like $30, not $300.

Do you really want me to pull a bunch of expensive acitivities out of a hat that are something other than eating food and you would probably enjoy, or are you just arguing to be contrary at this point

The key being they can't be reproduced. If there is a cheaper amusement park with similar quality, I'll go to that instead.

Also, there are no alternatives to those. With food, you can just make it yourself. All you're missing is the "atmosphere" which is shit anyway.

You can not make this kind of food at home. You just can't.

Why go to the ballet? Why go to the cinema? Why go to the theatre? Why go to a rock concert? You can just watch these at home on your laptop. Go figure.

Home cinema setups have greatly impacted cinema going. So thanks for making my point.

You absolutely can make this food at home. They're not sorcerers, the food comes from Earth. Will you be able to arrange it or make it the exact same way? Depends on your skill, but is that really worth hundreds of dollars per session?

As for "overpriced", well that's just a matter of perceived value isn't it? You're gonna say that's overpriced but I guarantee you have some toy in your house that cost $300 and you definitely did not need. You just liked it so you bought it, and that's fine.

But the fact of the matter is, they offer services, and they deliver on those services, and people pay them for it. I too think that it's a service that's not even worth $1 but here we are. There isn't an industry out there that doesn't "take advantage" of dumb/ignorant/naive people in some form or fashion. I don't like that these guys pay these women money for it either, the only thing we can do about it is try to educate them. No one in this twitch streamer scenario is being "ripped off" though.

I've stated multiple times that I don't think this behavior should be celebrated. That's it.

If they decide her giving them a little bit of attention is worth thousands of dollars, that's 100% on them, regardless of how stupid it is. These women haven't promised them anything other than what they give them.

Yeah but she knows why they donate and exploits their stupidity. I don't cheer them on just like I don't cheer on churches for ripping people off either. It's akin to finding joy in seeing the mentally handicapped or senile get ripped off. These guys likely have something wrong with them.

I'm not calling for a ban nor do I hate such twitch streamers. It just rubs me the wrong way and I think it shouldn't be celebrated.

People spend their money on dumb **** all the time. It's painfully evident that there's a billion in 1 chance she will ever do anything with a viewer yet they do it as if they are going to be that person

I have little pity for them tbh. If they had any common sense they wouldn't support her and she wouldn't stream so it's more their fault tbh

Many scams are also painfully evident, but that doesn't mean we should celibrate scammers for managing to trick people. You don't have to feel pity, but some people actually go "good for her" because she managed to manipulate fools into giving her thousands of dollars. This isn't behavior that should be congratulated.

Depending on your down payment thats like paying rent. The different is that once youre 60 you dont have that expense anymore, or you can sell your place so you have a lot of money and move to a cheap place to retire.

Most who pay it off will pay that off before the end of 30 years.

Yep, I bought a cheap house a little more than three years ago and paid it off within the year. Now I live without having to pay rent or a mortgage and I can save up tons of money. It feels great saving up like 80+% of every paycheck. Plus when I move, I can sell or rent the house out for even more money and I don't have to sell immediately since I don't have to rely on that equity to pay for the new house, so I can take my sweet time moving. I could buy low and sell high.

I'm pretty sure the "such entitlement" comment was sarcasm.

A couple of things I want to comment on after reading through the topic:

1) Coal miners wanting to work obsolete jobs is not the same as people wanting to get a living wage for spending 40+ hours of their time every week on useful and necessary work. If you're dedicating about half your life (since sleep doesn't count as "leisure" time) to work, then you should be paid enough to live comfortably off of it.

2) Living with your parents to save money is perfectly fine. It's more efficient to bundle people together than to have each person in their own house. Whatever extra used by the one additional person is not much compared to the full bill. It's not mooching, especially since they're your parents. Families should be taking care of each other, not trying to kick each other out as soon as possible.

ya, xyz should sell their products at a loss so entitled millenials that are too proud to work at mcdonalds can afford stuff.

your post alone shows the entitlement of millenials.

In your rush to kiss corporate ass, you have failed to read. No one said anything about selling at a loss. Companies need to adapt by offering things that appeal to who they're selling to. It's the company's responsibility to sell their goods and services. It is not the customer's responsibility to buy that company's goods and services.
