True, but CE is blatantly left leaning, overall. Expect any right winged views to be promptly subject to intense scrutiny & promptly criticized. Honestly, you're basically putting yourself in the hot-seat, in the same vein as when a left leaning figure actually agrees to appear on Fox News.
CE is not left leaning, it's a democratic party fan club, especially after the closure of the politics board (which itself was the ultimate democratic party fan club). Their opinions rarely, if ever, stray from the party. The party is considered the savior of the universe and any criticism of the party means that you must either be a trumpist or, if you criticize from the left, a trumpist in disguise.

This is horseshit. Not pushing back against this one issue isn't the same thing as not pushing back. Billions and Billions of student debt has been forgiven. Insulin prices were capped on Medicare. Taxes got raised on the richest companies in America. Migration is being handled better. Aid is getting sent to Ukraine. Yes he could do more but he's doing a lot and saying that things won't be different from the republicans is just straight up bold-faced lies.
No, what you posted is horseshit democrat PR. That student loan forgiveness was on loans that were already meant to be forgiven but was held up on people who had gone through a years long process. He also forgave scam school loans. The student loan problem is over a trillion dollars large, these billions are fucking peanuts. Insulin prices were capped but still way too fucking high, just look at Canada. A real solution is possible but you love to settle for crumbs.

Taxes got raised in certain instances, but not getting to the root of the problem of the rich hoarding wealth, and the rich can work around it. Again, crumbs, and it's not going to build up to a real solution because it's not meant to. Biden maintained some of Trump's policies and reverse others, but offers no real solution. Again, taking one step forward when republicans take five steps back is still going in the wrong direction.

Getting aid to Ukraine is actually a bipartisan measure. Republicans will pretend they're against it and make a lot of noise, but just look at the votes. They make noise so that they can get more of their shit through "as a compromise" to passing Ukraine aid. Again, republicans know how to play the game while democrats get played, or rather, you get played because democrats are fine with this since it serves their donors.

mistymermaid posted...
Much of that is because the mainstream media is perpetuating the charade. News outlets are so bent on "unbiased" reporting, they omit the (inconvenient, in that they don't want to lose viewers) truth of what Republicans have become.
Which media outlet forced top democrats like Biden and Pelosi to say that America needs a strong republican party? Surely they would know what republicans are like. Why does America need a strong fascist party?

That defeatist attitude can get the fuck out of here. Abandoning the push back against republicans because you're fatigued by how drawn out the conflict has been, is a display of weakness beneficial to fascists.
It's not an attitude problem, it's a problem inherent in the system. Democrats are not pushing back against republicans, which is why guaranteeing your vote to them won't actually change anything. If you want to actually solve the problem, you have to change the system itself. You cannot change the system from within because it was designed so that it couldn't be.

I've yet to hear anyone explain how voting for democrats will change anything when the democrats themselves say that "America needs a strong republican party". Why does the country need a strong fascist party? The only reason I can see is so that democrats have another party to point to and say "vote against that" because they have no other reason to vote for democrats. Which, again, if you have one party promising to turn things to shit and another party promising to keep things the same, you're just pacing out turning to shit. That makes it so that the parties aren't technically the exact same, but the eventual outcome is obvious, unless you think it's possible for republicans to never get elected ever again (which isn't likely, especially when democrats claim that we need a strong republican party and will help them stay viable).

Also it's fucking hilarious about how Biden has to "earn votes" but Sanders doesn't have to do anything except hope multiple other people running on nearly identical platforms can't get a majority.
If Bernie was the nominee in 2016, he would've won the general election. Turns out what party diehards want isn't necessarily the same as what the nation as a whole wants. This is what you people should've learned in 2016, but you were convinced that Hillary was a guaranteed winner in 2016, which just goes to show how much you know.

Despite Republicans losing the popular vote twice:
Holds enough power in the Senate and House to obstruct progress;
Is able to win the presidency through the electoral college system;
Has Republicans actively trying to correct their mistakes from 2020 to allow them to reverse results of elections they don't like;
Has Republicans openly admitting they fear for the chances of winning when more people can vote. Hence their efforts to reduce voters (similar to your efforts actually with you enlightened progressive routine);

So it's not a shocker at all people like you love to ignore the minority party is able to hold power by your type promoting people to staying home.

So either your a closet Republican or an enlightened Progressive.
See, that's another thing. Republicans play dirty and they fight for every scrap of power they can get. Meanwhile democrats sit with their thumbs up their ass and claim they can't do anything ever. If anything you're the closet republican because you're content with this arrangement.

man, 1337toothbrush inspires even more confidence than status quo Democrats: "They keep the GOP around on purpose and don't want to be better. Join me in realizing it is all hopeless, and vote for death in 2024!"
I've said multiple times that I vote for democrats down the entire ballot every time. Are you saying that's equal to voting for death? Even though I vote democrat every time, I'm not stupid enough to think it'll make a difference, but I do it because I might as well. I just don't think it's my place to say "vote or die" to other people and I think that anger is better directed at the do-nothing democrats who do nothing to appeal to voters and do nothing to advance progressive causes.

What? Hillary and Biden got more votes than Bernie. There was not voter disenfranchisement.
Voters clearly support policies more progressive than those crusty jackasses, the problem is that they weren't able to vote for one reason or another. Why are you against getting people to vote?

asdf8562 posted...
Your claim that you vote Democrat down the ballot is irrelevant to me given your enlightened progressive routine of telling others in a roundabout way to let Republicans win if your wet dream progressive pick lost some unproven rigged election. That and you defending that somehow in your roundabout way that both parties are the same.
Funny how not voting means that republicans win. Do you know why that is? It's because republicans give their voters exactly what they want, so they reliably show up to vote. Shocking, I know.

Seriously folks, try actually addressing the points raised or don't bother. Or is it to difficult for you to face the reality that the democrats team up with republicans to drive the country down the gutter? "B-b-b-but they're not the exact same" doesn't matter if we're ending up with fascism sooner or later when one party is fascist and the other helps fascists.

What enlightenment? I vote democratic down the entire ballot every single election, I just happen to respect the choices of other. You, on the other hand, are an enlightened democrat who thinks they know better than everyone else and thinks that if we guarantee democrats votes -- no matter what, even when they're supporting genocide full-throatedly -- then democrats will surely listen to us someday instead of serving their own interests first and foremost. You also think that it's the job of the voter to guarantee votes instead of the job of politicians to appeal to voters, as if we're living in bizarro world. Maybe we are, because I can't imagine any other world calling this a democracy.

Democrats want to uphold the status quo and they'll help fascists up onto the stage to scare people into "choosing" between existing fascism or more fascism. Then you all defend democrats as if they're good people lol

So what you're saying is your fellow Bernie supporters failed to show up in the primaries, and as a result Bernie lost? We finally agree. I guess we're done here then; debate over.
So when republicans benefit from voter disenfranchisement, you're mad, but when democrats benefit from voter disenfranchisement, you're smug. Nice.

I'm not the one defending people staying home as valid reasons. That's you.

Staying home is doing nothing.

Elections regardless have consequences even if one candidates does little as you say to reverse damage (as you allege, Democrats) and the other is actively making things much much worse and openly flirts with doing away with elections entirely for the dear orange leader. (Republicans)

Any rational arguing or defending the idea of letting Republicans win because you think Democrats don't do enough is dumb logic if you truly lean left. There is absolutely no guarantees whatsoever your dreamy wetdream candidate will ever have enough control of the government given what Republicans actively are pushing for which is laws to keep them permanently in power.
Staying home is a form of voting. It's saying "I don't see any candidates worth going to the polls to vote for". Maybe you hate democracy, but I think people should have a choice. If democrats don't want fascism, then they should stop promoting fascist candidates and then portraying themselves as heroes for being the only opposition: https://www.salon.com/2016/11/09/the-hillary-clinton-campaign-intentionally-created-donald-trump-with-its-pied-piper-strategy/

Democrats being brain-dead morons has consequences.

Ranked choice voting is good.

Not sure about no primaries though. Seems like it leaves the door open for so much ratfucking. I can have my mind changed though.
Ranked choice should reduce the impact of vote splitting, but if there are too many candidates then it can go into multiple rounds.

Once again, your logic of do nothing and intentionally let things get far worse is what brought us a conservative Supreme Court.

Elections regardless have consequences even if one candidate does little as you say to reverse damage and the other is actively making things much much worse.

Generations of damage is not a "small price." Especially given what Republicans are literally aiming to do which is to install their white ethno theocratic state with Trump and his sycophants at the wheel. There is absolutely no guarantees whatsoever the Republicans round 2 attempt if Trump becomes president that he will actually leave and the US guardrails in place will make him go. We have an entire party that wants to install him as the leader and is willing to ignore laws and create laws to keep him president. Their first attempt just spectacularly failed.

So this idea of letting Republicans win is operating on an extremely false pretense that some dreamy progressive or whoever will win in the future (2028) and somehow magically reverse all of the damage caused by Republicans like Roe v Wade, a conservative Supreme Court, magically somehow overcome Congress, and any new damages caused 2024.
Doing nothing isn't my logic, it's yours. I never said don't vote or, worse, to vote for republicans. I always vote and entirely democratic down the entire ballot every time. However, if you want to convince more people to vote for democrats, you have to appeal to them. Like, this should be obvious and basic politicking, but you're so resistant to democrats doing anything that you refuse to acknowledge this one simple trick. In other words, you want democrats to do nothing, but want to shame voters into voting for them. It just doesn't make any sense.

Do you mean you want viable third parties or do you mean you just want to eliminate the primary process all together or that there should be no political parties?

I'm against the two party system and want other viable parties but I'm not sure how feasible it is to not have a primary process or to not have political parties.
Eliminate primaries + use ranked choice voting (which would probably help make third parties viable). This would be a good start, I think.

As opposed to what? Let republicans control our primary process? No thanks.
You're so stuck in thinking through the current two party system that you assume if it's not democrats then it must be republicans. How about we have a system where presidential candidates aren't filtered through party primaries of which there are only two viable parties?

Funny since it was the Hillary-supporting media counting superdelegates for Hillary before getting anywhere close to the end of the primaries, so if anyone was playing games with numbers, it was the democratic party. Regardless, that doesn't address the fact that candidates are squeezed through party primaries and are thus subject to the whims of the only two viable parties. Additionally, voter participate rates in primaries are even more pathetic than in the general plus they skew toward party diehards (because, again, they're *party* primaries).
