If a president is so unpopular that internal polls are showing him possibly losing Democratic stronghold states to Donald fuckin Trump, maybe running that guy's VP might not go so well. But the way everything was done so late in the game they really didn't have any other choice but to do that. It was obvious since the very start Biden shouldn't be running for a second term and there was plenty of time to figure it out. The party leadership/donors chose not to.

To be fair we weren't even given a chance to have a real primary and instead got someone who during the last primary had to drop out before a single vote was cast. Plus lots of the voters were in states that don't even really matter.

Bludgeoning voters with "well vote for me or this worse option will win!" will always eventually fail and that bad option will win. Its not only in the US this sort of thing happens either.
