To be fair we weren't even given a chance to have a real primary and instead got someone who during the last primary had to drop out before a single vote was cast. Plus lots of the voters were in states that don't even really matter. Bludgeoning voters with "well vote for me or this worse option will win!" will always eventually fail and that bad option will win.
