It's not even specifically the fact that it's chiptune, stuff like Tim Follin's works and the Shovel Knight soundtrack proves that chiptune can be Really Fucking Cool, the melodies are just kinda nothing special.

feels like a Yasunori Nishiki song with some Uematsu influence (namely there's a part that reminds me of FFIV's The Final Battle), but man those vocals being English kinda harms this for me (as weird as that may sound). if they were a fictional language or generally not meant to be understood, the iffy mixing would work for me since it'd feel intentionally blended in with the instrumentation. but since the lyrics have actual meaning, the mixing is more of a detriment. does that make any sense? whatever. rest of the song's great tho, big OT1 fan so discount Nishiki is still good lol

on the flip side, I think this might be a tad too long? think it's mainly the slow section that just feels like it goes on for longer than it really needs too, which while not a deal-breaker is definitely a knock against it. still a great song besides that tho
