They're named that way as a holdover to the Game Boy/NES/Famicom days of numbering stages.

You *can* do them out of order, but only slightly. There's some story triggers you need to trip in some cases, or get the item from one dungeon only to leave it unfinished (and back on the Game Boy, that was a big game plan, because you could keep Bow Wow with you during your Bottle Grotto delve and he'd occasionally eat story triggers.)

Rolf, on the other hand, is really never good. PoR is just too focused on the enemy phase for there to be any point to archers.

Like I said, my favoritism here comes from a similarly Defense-blessed one who I threw Provoke on in Radiant Dawn and he quite nearlu soloed the endgame with a 1-3 attack range and a 3-13-archer bravado.

I didn't ever really name them until gen 5, when I started doing them as Fire Emblem characters, then X/Y I started doing alternate pun-names if I thought the original name was dumb, or just other random names that may have been even loosely related..

Pyrogrine for Talonflame, Chapply for Mr. Rime, Saintinel for Decidueye, Rahorus for Helioptile.

Most recently, Nidhana for Copperajah.

From Final Fantasy:
4 - Edward (in games where he's allowed.) He goes from "literally spawned video game Bard tropes" to "fuck your undead, fuck your dragons, fuck my party's white mages."
6 - Gau. Experimenting with other rages is "fun."
9 - Freya. Not the WORST party member (Eiko, I'm glaring at you) but in the bottom 4, despite having access to a guaranteed 9999.
10 - Kimahri. I typically just build him like a speedier Auron by double-dipping in Auron and Rikku's grids and... well, it's favoritism, but it just works until you get to the levels where Yuna is benchpressing everything with 9 healthbars, and by then literally everyone else is busted too.
13: Vanille. I just love the fact they made "debuffer" a core role in the game and I wish more FFs would do it, and she is basically the best one of your group. Also, she's not as inherently hateable as some of the other dickheads in your party (Hope... Snow...)
Tactics: Rafa. Caused me so many game overs, but I still did.

Fire Emblem:
Sacred Stones: Amelia. Yes, it is favoritism. No, it isn't wrong. (Then again, the only character in this game I *haven't* succeeded with after babying was Knoll, his luck is just... so bad. SO bad.)
Path of Radiance: Mist. A Mist that manages to get Strength is just... just beautiful, even if her promotion comes so late. Likewise, Rolf, who transfer-saved and literally soloed most of the endgame in Radiant Dawn.
Radiant Dawn: Meg. She is SO BAD that I can't help but feel sorry for her and make her useful as she sprouts her Pegasus wings in her fat armor. (She's still better than Fiona, who not even Paragon can save.)
Fates (Conquest): Nyx. Caused me more resets than any other unit.

Persona 4: Chie. Kinda bleeds over into Arena and/or Blazblue x Tag Battle where I pair her with Akihiko and have them do a punchy party.
Persona 5 (not Royal, where he got better:) Yusuke. That might've been because I was a bit leery of half of the rest of the early team, honestly. If I could've feasibly run the full game Joker/Yusuke/Makoto/Ryuji and benched the others, I'd have been all for it.

I'm struggling to think of other JRPGs I've played (without interchangeable characters or solo characters) and I'm really struggling. I guess Tales of Symphonia, I used Presea and Sheena a lot, while I let Regal's AI carry me to victory?

I've missed most of this due to a LOT of work stress and just plain forgetfulness.

I was planning on going to my first one ever in... June of 2020. And look how well that turned out.

I feel like I'm one of the only Tranquill likers, even if that dumb stupid bird has an identity crisis on what it becomes.

In retrospect I should've voted for Corvisquire. Quite the dumb name, even if it makes sense, but I love how it *looks* the most, and moveset-wise it's like bargain-bin Skarmory.

Silver chests, instead, explode people when they're duds. Good for a laugh if your green DPS wont top people off in a full fight.

I cant juggle my buffs and debuffs and my smoothbrain.

The bard/machinist/dancer disparity will *probably* even itself out as more attempted clears go through/people figure out more useful melds for themselves/start bringing actually useful consumables.
