How do you as a medical professional shut down a person who's there to see you about their traumatic shit? They even say in the bio of that video "not happening on my watch ever again".

So the backlash hits and sidequesttherapy stops uploading, leaving a message in their bio saying they won't be uploading any more.

People find the real Sidequest Therapy, which bills itself as a business catering to LGBTQI+ individuals as well as gamers and fandom members and stuff, so people know they won't feel ridiculed. Info, including their ABN, circulates online.

But as it turns out, the tiktok account sidequesttherapy ISN'T ASSOCIATED with the business Sidequest Therapy:



That's pretty much it for now, so it's not that much of a controversy. I just thought it's been kind of a wild ride, "therapytok" having a user who shuts down people who need therapy, and whose profile name lines up with a real therapy practice who then has to clear their name when the toxicity towards the tiktokker reaches them.

I feel like the story isn't over yet, like there's gonna be a big twist - like the screenshot is grossly out of context and it was a comedy bit or something, or it's exactly what it looks like and she's uploaded a picture of another guy to her practice's website to distance her business from the tiktok. Or maybe there's another angle to all this that'll blow the whole thing wide open.

Liberalism used to mean "small government and a free, unregulated market is the best avenue to enable human rights". The Liberal party has its roots in the old definition of liberalism.

The Labor party, meanwhile, speaks more to the working class. The people who have to work in that free and unregulated market, where a lack of regulation usually means longer hours and less rights for them.

It should be mentioned, though, that our Liberal government has sealed pretty much every session they've had under "parliamentary privilege" since Scott Morrison came to power and possibly before that, and they've had a massive hand in building both unnecessary dams and giving unprecedented attention to property developers who keep making buildings that crack at the foundational level. We're as big-government as you can get.

The just of what I'm saying is that the Liberal party - our conservative party - have been in power since 2013. A lot of shit has gone wrong in the past 8 years, and the Liberal party have been the ones managing our budget, spending our money, passing our laws etc.

I've gone into detail twice about how Australia does have surveillance problems and a shitty corrupt government, but it's because our government is a cabal of far-right shitheads. I have no doubt in my mind that if any of the idiots calling for my country to be invaded lived down here for a month or two and consumed nothing but right-wing content the way they do in America, they'd be bending over backwards for this shit.

I'm not giving the whole spiel again, but we have issues with pork-barreling, water theft, corruption going up to the highest seats of both state and national politics, conspiracy theorists in the range of our prime minister, a complete lack of media diversity and overreaching surveillance laws signed into effect by our conservative government. The COVID face-tracking app? That's in a conservative state - in Labor-run states, you're basically just using QR codes, with a specific app you need to download in Canberra.

Other things that these fucking droolers view as tyranny, such as our strict media ratings and our gun ban? Both of them brought about by conservatives. We didn't have an R18+ rating for video games because of one Liberal party holdout who survived in his role until 2013, through both Liberal and Labor governments - at which point he left and we got the rating.

Please, listen to Candace Owens over Australians who are saying "yeah, we do have issues in Australia - stemming from the sort of morons Candace Owens and her ilk would fucking slurp if given the opportunity". I was watching Todd in the Shadows recently, and he put out a Trainwreckords episode for the Carpenters album Passage. I don't listen to them super often, but they're a band I'm fond of and it was a nice excuse to get back into them for a little while.

Karen's death is still so sad to me. Like you can see in later interviews she's like stickbug-thin. It was only recently that I learned that in the last years of her life, she got married - but she wanted children and he didn't, which was apparently Karen's breaking point.

Imagine being one of the first people to die of a stigmatized disease in a time before it was common. Karen Carpenter died of Anorexia Nervosa in like 1983. A wholesome, all-American girl, wasting away to nothing in the prime of her life.

I know it's corny to be into oldies acts, and the Carpenters were the fucking grand poobah of oldies acts. They were dated in their time. But I think that style of music paired with Karen's voice is really timeless - classic, classy, wistful. And that fucking voice, man - that's a voice you get once in a generation.

The biggest personal concern of mine over the past couple of years is whether I would succumb to bigotry through my opposition of China.

Because while the intent is always to criticize the government when you say "China", the fact is that if you get way too into it, if you spend long enough saying "China", then it does eventually dehumanise the people. The word feels like poison in your mouth, and whenever China comes up in any capacity, the reaction is instantly negative. When you hear a story about a Chinese person, your first reaction might eventually be to denigrate the fact that he's Chinese.

The intent is always to criticize the government. But when do you stop talking about China, the superpower engaging in global espionage and arguably the eventual cause of WW3, and start talking about China, the country full of people?

I'm virulently against the CCP. I think Xi Jinping is a fuckwit, I think the CCP are a bunch of propagandist crooks - I think most politicians in first-world countries are propagandist crooks, in Australia, Britain and America specifically - but not to the level of China. The fact that they have a CCP speech app where you're encouraged to tap the screen to clap at Xi Jinping's speeches for social credit is revolting. Uyghur concentration camps exist and it's maddening that we can't do anything about it. This isn't a move from me to go "hey now China has taken a real walloping, it's time to step back and consider the consequences of our actions" - fuck the CCP, now and forever. Mao Zedong fucked China, and in installing himself as leader for life, Xi Jinping is continuing that trend. Chinese people deserve better than this selfish government who are ruling over them like tyrants.

But I understand that I have to watch myself, because the second that my criticism of the CCP - of the Chinese state - turns into bigotry towards the Chinese people, it's over. Regardless of my best intentions, I've lost. I don't want to be a bigot, and I value that strongly enough to juggle my personal values with the strongest criticism of the CCP as I can muster.

With that being said, I'm not going to stand down in the face of China shills deflecting from re-education camps and systemic poverty they're covering up with accusations of sinophobia. You can't whitewash crimes against humanity with "saying that is bigoted". It isn't bigoted to say "the CCP are concentrating Uyghurs in re-education camps and detaining them for years without a trial". Nor is it bigotry to bring up their decades long habit of false imprisonment, throwing people in jail for decades without a trial. No, it's an indictment of a corrupt and evil government who are persecuting a racial and religious minority, imprisoning people for political opposition and who engage in mass surveillance and brainwashing on a level that - while not entirely separate from the rest of the world - is still arguably unprecedented and revolting.

That exists in tandem with other countries and their problems. Before the China shills quote small snippets of text here and downplay everything I say, America has a fuckton of blood on their hands that they should be paying for, or even just apologizing for. Australia isn't above it all, with our asylum seeker camps and shit. I won't hesitate to say that we're evil countries as well, because any colonized nation is built on the bones of the people they displaced and disenfranchised. Lots of blood has been spilled in the name of western imperialism, and with the western push towards radical conservatism there's a lot to criticize. All of that is worth talking about and condemning.

It's not so clear cut as to go "well America is bad too so you can't say shit about China". We can talk about it all.

So yeah. We should have sympathy for the people of China. It would do everyone a lot of good to pause for a second, take a deep breath and make the distinction between China the state and China the country. Because when that line is blurred, you're opening yourself up to evil. And when you've recentred yourself, you'll probably have a level of focus and zeal that you didn't realise was slipping away. The most important thing you can do when following your ideals is to keep yourself honest.

Wait so these apps put the basic function of what they're made for behind a paywall? So what do you even get in the free versions? Lol

You get notified that someone liked you, and if the app isn't dogshit you see a garbled version of their profile picture that you can't properly make out. You can usually feel out the scene or pick out a distinctive color, but it's a crapshoot. You can then swipe through your stack in the hopes of finding your match.

If you're rural like I am, the stack runs out pretty fast. And even if you're around a lot of people, the apps have limited swipes - swipe too much and you have to wait 24 hours to swipe again.

Sure, but that's the function of the app. It seems unethical to manipulate things in your own favor to keep your users chained to the app for the sake of potentially making money from them. It doesn't sound like they have their users' best interest at heart, which unfortunately falls in with the general direction that the internet has been going in.

Legal and acceptable are two different things. It's legal for Tinder and the other apps to monetize their app and tip the scales in their favor to keep people using a product that works against them, all in the hopes of getting a one-time $40 payment or a couple hundred dollars per year in subscription fees from people who are desperate enough for companionship to pay an outrageous amount of money. But I don't think it's acceptable.

Like I get the premise, you both match because you're mutually interested in each other and it's that spark that makes the matching system so effective or whatever, but I hate how they're like "you've been liked by a bunch of people, and we're gonna get you as close to being able to figure them out as possible, but if you want to just cheat the system pay us an ongoing subscription fee". They're using potential matches as bait to wrong as much money out of you as they can.

They've deliberately designed an obtuse system that makes it a gamble as to whether you're actually gonna meet someone, and then they have the audacity to charge over a hundred dollars a year to unfuck the system they've made. Tinder got away with it for so long by going "oh no it's just our gimmick, it's like a game!", but when it becomes clear how exploitable this business model is - becoming the standard by which all other dating apps aspire to in the process - it's less and less acceptable.

Our loneliness is being exploited by these dating apps to potentially tap into a revenue stream, and that's fucking disgusting. But we're used to it now, so it doesn't matter.

There are a couple reasons why I didn't get it right away.

When the AstraZenica vaccine first became available in Australia, I was already sick with another illness. I wanted to give myself some time to feel better before I got it.

Within the next two weeks of me feeling better from that, something happened that changed my life forever and really fucked with me. I confronted an old friend about something and it absolutely fucking sucked, and from there I terminated our friendship. That set off a chain reaction that fucked with me for the next six months.

Everything that happened after that was basically me stalling because I felt bad, and I wanted to stabilise before I got the vaccine. And it was wrong of me to do so because I eventually got the vax because the virus finally impacted my small town and the thought of getting it freaked me the fuck out.

Nowadays we have AstraZenica, Pfizer and Moderna. I got Pfizer. Anything beyond being worried about the choice of vaccine - for a while we only had AstraZenica - is BS. get vaxxed.
