It sucks when stuff goes missing from subscription services, I was playing Saints Row 3 a while back and it got taken off of gamepass halfway through. Shit sucked.

But that's a reality of the platform, stuff comes and goes. It's shitty if you're halfway through a game and it gets taken off the roster, but I don't begrudge anyone for it because the agreement ran out.

I don't want to be a corporate bootlicker - I was originally gonna flame you like an asshole before I thought my response through like this - but just like Netflix, shit gets pulled sometimes. That's an unfortunate reality of subscription services, rights expire and contracts lapse. Either play it while it's there, buy the game so you can keep playing it, or take some measure of protest for your rights as a consumer.

I'd even argue that the last option is the best option with enough backing, because as consumers we are seeing personal ownership eroding with each successive generation of gaming. A company could install a patch barring you from playing a game you bought because they don't recognise the license you bought as legitimate and they don't feel the need to honor their end of the deal, which is to play the game you bought for their platform.

But until that last option is feasible - you've just gotta live with the terms and conditions of the Game Pass service.

For sure. There's something to be said to the effect of "they might think you need to hear it and they're trying to help you", but if you need to ask for something to be omitted, then you need to ask.

Therapy involves work on your part to become a better person, but I fully believe that the therapist needs to do a significant amount of work with you to maintain a bond of trust. A therapist can hurt you, a therapist can be shitty. As a client, you need to be able to say "I would prefer that you don't say that because it upsets me".

I had a counsellor where I went into the sessions from one angle, but later on my circumstances changed and I needed other support. But the care didn't pivot with my needs, and the sessions got more alienating and hostile the more I had them because my counsellor's focus wasn't on what I needed help with. I did need help with the topic she was focusing on, but there was a greater need that wasn't being met.

At one point she said "I don't think we can continue, I don't think you want help", and I cried because it felt like I was being given up on and I was going through a significantly hard time already. And she had the fucking gall to say that "the fact that you reacted that way tells me that you're open to being helped" and shit. Like she was going to hurt my fucking feelings to break me down and help me rebuild when I collapsed. I never trusted her after that - we had 3 more sessions booked, and I did them all without opening up to her because I didn't trust her. That act ruined my trust in her.

Therapy is a game of give and take. You need to put in the effort to get better, and therapy can be uncomfortable to that point. Sometimes, you do need to hear some uncomfortable truths.

But that doesn't mean your therapist has the right to inflame you or make you uncomfortable without your permission.

Chances are they didn't understand that what they said was triggering, and they won't know until you ask them to stop. Or maybe when you bring it up with them, they can offer a reasonable explanation why they were using that language that amounts to then trying to hurt you, at which point you can discuss further. If they don't do any of that, or double down - god forbid - you need to find a new therapist.

So basically, you should bring it up with them. They won't stop if they don't know what the problem is.

I'm thinking of getting the OLED, but I also think a better Switch is right around the corner. For example, the chip that the Switch runs on has been discontinued, and the Switch came out in March 2017 - that was four years ago, and consoles tend to have a shelf life of five to six years.

If you have the disposable income, I would say that you should still buy the OLED. The resell value should be pretty great if there is a new console coming just down the line, and you can probably score a couple loose cart-only games on eBay or something.

I think people like it because they like the characters. It's not a hugely plot-driven show, it's essentially a slice of life where you're watching these characters go about their daily lives and being friends. It's the same reason you might watch K-ON over Attack on Titan if you're an anime fan.

Personally, I never got it as a kid - never really got Cheers either. I got Seinfeld and Frasier, but Friends was just this awful cheesy mess that I never got into. But I understand how people could find it comforting and amusing.

I remember watching According to Jim after school in high school. It filled a niche, it was something to watch. I didn't mind it - I think there are much better sitcoms out there, like How I Met Your Mother and the Drew Carey Show for starters, but I don't begrudge According to Jim for what it is.

There was one scene that made me laugh out loud - Jim and his neighbour/best friend Andy are out in the woods hunting wild turkeys. After spending all day without coming across one, Jim puts his crossbow down and goes to take a leak. But as he's pissing, a turkey walks up to Andy's complete disbelief - and it pecks at the crossbow until it fires a bolt directly into Jim's ass. Fuck it - it's stupid, but I fucking loved it.

Other than that, I'm ambivalent towards According to Jim. It existed, and I watched it. I don't particularly regret it, either.

Metroid games have a very flexible playtime. The games are known for inspiring a lot of sequence breaking, and people try to complete the game with the lowest completion percentage possible. It wouldn't surprise me if you could beat Metroid Dread in two and a half hours. It wouldn't surprise me if people could nail down a speedrun that takes less than an hour.

What matters is that there are collectibles and secrets and stuff that make exploring the map and replaying the game interesting, satisfying and fun. Because what I love about Metroid is exploring the map, finding hidden shit and powering up Samus.

when I was a kid, I didn't care too much about video games, so I missed out on the stuff on the NES & SNES.

and when I was older, I tried out Metroid Prime, but it was before I liked first-person games, so I ended up shelving it.

anyway, Dread looks pretty cool, and if I ever get a Switch (or its successor), I hope to try it out.

It's not too late. Have you ever played Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, or any of the post-SotN games that came out on the GBA? The sense of exploration and powering up is remarkably similar, with the difference being that Castlevania is melee-focused and Metroid focuses on ranged combat.

Metroid: Zero Mission is the one that got me into the games - I've tried to play Super Metroid a couple of times but the controls and sound effects are just kinda weird to go back to. But Zero Mission has aged incredibly gracefully, as both a standalone experience and as an updated remake of the first Metroid game. It came out after the Game Boy Advance line began getting backlights, so it didn't overcompensate for the GBA's original screen with vibrant, exaggerated color palettes like Metroid Fusion or DKC1 did.

Basically what I'm saying is that if the Metroid bug ever hits you, Zero Mission is a solid starting point. Or shit, Dread might go down as the game that matched or exceeded the rest of the side-scrolling games.
