That was a good sendoff. The orchestrated Dearly Beloved was an excellent note to end on, and Sora looked like a lot of fun.

The fact that they added Doom Slayer armor is fucking great too, like Doomguy was never getting in Smash but I appreciate that they acknowledged the meme.

I'm kind of glad we didn't end on a dead fish like Waluigi or Isaac from Golden Sun. I don't understand how people were as revved up as they were for those two specifically, like Waluigi would have been fun but there was no way to squeeze him in after a crowd-pleaser like Banjo-Kazooie. Maybe if they replaced Byleth, but what's done is done and I'm more or less satisfied with the way Smash Ultimate has wrapped up. And I mean Isaac is an anime swordsman from a franchise that died years ago, on top of all the Fire Emblem characters. The same problem would have befallen Crono too, especially after Erdrick/Loto from Dragon Quest.

I remember trolling Menardi with these screenshots years ago because he was super hyped about Isaac. I made a Mii called Sad Cole, and I dressed him in some Mii clothing you can get in the game:

I still think this is really funny, lol

Honestly, I never saw Smash ending. Like it was gonna be an objective fact, but how do you end this fuckin thing y'know? I sure wasn't expecting Kingdom Hearts. I didn't want to believe the rumours because KH carries a bit of baggage for me, but they definitely made it work. The stage in particular looked awesome, it's a bit distracting but it's such a great, nostalgic stage.

I also can't believe they brought up Iwata. I miss that man. Cancer is a bitch.

So yeah. I'm not overwhelmed, and I'm not underwhelmed. I'm genuinely, thoroughly whelmed.

Oh, and to cap things off:

I said earlier in my first post that the Liberal party only hold majority government in three of Australia's six states. Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia are Labor, while NSW, South Australia and Tasmania are Liberal.

The state that rolled out the facial recognition COVID app is South Australia.

So once again - one of the biggest reasons American mouthbreathers are so worked up about Australia is due to the conservative government. And I maintain that if any of these stupid assholes understood that the bad shit they're talking about is mandated by a conservative government, they would turn right around and polish our government's boots with kisses. Not even with tongue, just pecking off the dirt and dogshit with little goldfish kisses.

Who wants to bet that the reason they don't realise any of this is because the conservatives are called the Liberal party?

Middle-aged folks who haven't been brainwashed by Sky News - a far-right tabloid channel run by Rupert Murdoch, the same cocksucker who runs Fox News - and the United Australia Party - an independent political party funded by a mining billionaire that pedals anti-vax conspiracy theories, sends illegal texts to unsuspecting phone numbers and buys campaign ads on the front page of a nationally syndicated newspaper - are convinced that "Australia will never get that bad". But as evidenced by the aforementioned news channel and political party, we are seeing an upswing in far-right activity including anti-lockdown rallies that serve as super-spreader events.

We also had Trump-esque rallies pre-COVID set up by the One Nation Party, which was started by a woman who wore a full burqa to parliament and who denies that the Stolen Generation happened/was as bad as the indigenous population say it is.

Our prime minister is a man who once pulled a parliamentary stunt to oppose a Labor party (center-left) bill regarding renewable energy by bringing a lump of coal into parliament. Our secretary of defence was promoted to that position last year, before that he handled immigration - where he was vehemently anti-asylum seeker, but where he fast-tracked visas for au pairs and the like for his rich friends. Same guy was one of three politicians to walk out of the government's apology to the indigenous population for the Stolen Generation.

The Liberal-National party (the Liberals are center-right, the Nationals are far-right and they make up a coalition government) are in power nationally, but they only hold majority government in three of Australia's six states. One of those states is New South Wales, which means that the Premier and Deputy Premier are both right wing.

Our premier, Gladys Berejiklian, had to resign this past weekend because of corruption charges brought against her by the Independent Commission Against Corruption. The leader of the Nationals, John Barilaro, resigned right after her - his reputation has been sullied after siccing the Fixated Persons Unit on a pair of YouTubers who were taking the piss out of him, broadcasting a history of hypocrisy on his part and exposing multiple instances of him and his party engaging in corruption and John taking pride in it. He's actually suing the YouTuber in question for defamation.

Let's get something straight: Australia is falling apart. I do agree that we as citizens need to keep an eye on surveillance laws, I don't trust facial recognition apps when other states use a QR system that - while abusable - seems to be getting the job done.

But whoever these stupid doorknob-licking morons think are ruining the country? I guarantee you that they're dead wrong. Because the shitheads fucking my country in the ass are the Liberal-National party - a coalition between the center-right and the far-right party of my nation. And I guarantee you that if any of these dickheads were familiar with Australia even remotely, they'd be licking the boots of our conservative government and taking the center-left party to task, because that's the exact brand of ideological poison that Rupert "Fox News" Murdoch is pushing with the print media in this country as well as Sky News.

Kevin Rudd is a Labor prime minister from ten years ago. For the past two or three years, he's been balancing his job as the head of a New York-based thinktank with a campaign to promote media diversity and highlight the chokehold Rupert Murdoch has on this country. He's been opposed every step of the way from media outlets staffed with both Newscorp alumni and former Liberal Party staffers - Nine-Fairfax, the other top media empire in this country, is run by a man named Joe Hockey who was the treasurer of the Liberal party (including when they were in power) for over a decade.

FriendlyJordies, the man being sued by the leader of the Nationals - whose employee was arrested at his home by an anti-terror unit for seeing John Barilaro in public and attempting to hand him erroneous legal documents for him to correct - is bashed and lambasted by the Liberal-National party for being "Labor-aligned" - which he is, because he recognises what the Labor party are trying to do to unfuck the country and promote it because Nine-Fairfax and Newscorp refuse to. It's to the point that he was getting more headlines than Jodi McKay, the leader of the opposition (the Labor equivalent of premier, who was in charge of Labor's activities in New South Wales and who would have taken Gladys Berejiklian's job if the LNP were voted out of power).

Guess who are lambasted the most by the growing far-right movement, headed by the Daily Telegraph, the Sunday Morning Herald and Sky News? Guess who are two of the most prominent Labor-aligned activists trying to hold a biased media and governmental corruption to account?

Kevin Rudd and FriendlyJordies.

It is absolutely rich to hear that the American right are chanting "save Australia", because it's their ilk who are ruining this country in the first place. Whatever boogeyman they have in mind, they would bend over backwards for.

Because when you hear "censorship in Australia" or "gun laws in Australia" or any of that crap, I would bet money that the average far-right mouthbreather attributes that to a crazy left-wing mob who've gone crazy wokifying the country.

And yet the reason we didn't have an 18+ rating for video games despite having the rating available for movies? That was due to a conservative government.

The sweeping gun reform passed in the aftermath of the Port Arthur massacre? Passed by perhaps the most principled Liberal prime minister in the past 50 years, John Howard.

Australia is in deep shit. But the people who are ruining the country are the exact bullshit artists these morons would worship.

Mark my words - if they knew that the party who are fucking the country sideways:

  • voted in a prime minister whose campaign slogan was "stop the boats"
  • gave excessive tax cuts to corporations in line with American tax rates
  • vehemently opposed renewable energy for over a decade, despite Australia being uniquely adaptable to green energy
  • is instead pushing for a "transition fuel" of gas which is expensive and useless, so that BP can continue to make money off fossil fuels until the bitter end
  • allies itself with far-right candidates who wore burqas into parliament, brought coal onto the senate floor, walked out of a government apology to the indigenous community and who blamed the Christchurch mosque shootings on the Muslim population for their "failure to assimilate"
They would change their tune so fast, they'd probably fuck up their vocal cords.

Oh yeah, the Quinton Reviews iCarly videos.

I think they're comprehensive, passionate videos coming through the eyes of an iCarly fan. That's not to say you can't come into a new topic and broadcast it through the eyes of a stranger - look at Down the Rabbit Hole for example. But that prior investment, the sheer effort and dedication required to create such incredibly long videos, is kind of addictive to watch.

Like, I was into Avatar when iCarly was starting out. You never would have caught me dead looking at these cringe-ass live-action kids shows, because everything is being played up as an energetic caricature of a human being and it comes off as insincere and fake - whereas the characters crafted for like cartoons and anime could have weight and gravitas that these puffed-up kidcoms never really approached.

But I really enjoyed watching the iCarly videos. The passion was cool, and I enjoyed how comprehensive Quinton was - it was like I was soaking up what he was saying like a sponge. It triggered that thirst for new knowledge that makes a good video essay ping just right.

Without spoiling anything, there's an episode in season one of Ash vs Evil Dead where Ash and his compadres stop at a diner. It is one of my favorite episodes of the show.

With spoilers: a kid gets thrown into a ceiling fan and gets absolutely destroyed by it - "destroyed" being the only way I can do it justice - and Ash cuts a Deadite's face off in strips with a deli slicer.

Abortion on demand: when a single woman faces significant hardship from this decision stemming from medical or significant economic reasons, i.e. a medical condition that makes stillbirth or death for the mother highly likely, or if having the baby would result in losing her job, postponing or outright cancelling her studies and resulting in a significantly diminished standard of life for both mother and child - this is an option that, while scarring and traumatic, is available. No-one is arguing it doesn't come with a high cost, but it is a necessary medical procedure that safeguards and saves lives in the long run, and its abolition and the commodification of anti-abortion laws is objectively more predatory towards women than having the option available to them in the first place.

Free contraception - prevents STDs, significantly reduces the chances of women getting pregnant and subsequently needing abortions, which saves a lot of heartache and trauma for everyone. Incentivising the use of contraception by lowering prices or making it free means that more people have access to it, which means less sexually transmitted diseases and less unwanted children for both men and women.

Porn: as an industry, porn has a lot of problems. But both porn and other forms of sex work can be ethical and safe with the right amount of regulation and oversight. On-demand subscription services in the vein of Patreon was a move in the right direction, both for consumers of pornography and for content producers. I've seen porn stars network over Twitter, set up times and places, record pornographic material for both of their subscription services and come away from it stoked to have worked with each other and with more money going towards the both of them. There is abuse and predation in the porn industry - this online-centric model where adult talent can produce content on their own terms is a step towards eliminating that by cutting out the industry altogether, or making it auxillary to safer and more popular models like the subscription model.

And while sex work can be called degrading and unfeminist, the fact is that sex work is skilled labor, and sex workers deserve fair compensation and whatever protections they can be afforded. Prostitution is legal in Australia, both in an amateur and professional sense, and the people who engage in physical sex work have the right to set their own terms and their own prices, kick out anyone who doesn't meet those standards - and almost certainly not have to refund them if sexual contact has been made, or even without that being the case as money has traded hands - and go to the police in the event of violence or other forms of malicious conduct being levied against them. I could go into detail about how COPPA laws shutting down online classifieds caused a surge in sexual violence, but that's a topic for another time and it requires a lot more nuance than just "COPPA bad!".

I'm sure the reason this comic was posted is because of how stupid it is, but I wanted to break down just how stupid it was. Because it does bear mentioning how abortion, contraception and sex work affect women, and how they protect some of the most vulnerable women in our society - the ones who engage in sex work, and the ones who get pregnant.

if Mohammed won't go to the mountain

FUCK THE MOUNTAIN

MOUNTAINS ARE DUMB AS FUCK
There was an Indian guy who spent 22 years carving a road through a mountain with nothing but a sledgehammer and a chisel:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dashrath_Manjhi

Per the entry:

"When his wife died in 1959 due to injury caused by falling from a mountain, he decided to carve a path of 110 m long (360 ft), 9.1 m (30 ft) wide and 7.7 m (25 ft) deep through a ridge of hills using only a hammer and a chisel. After 22 years of work, Dashrath shortened travel between the Atri and Wazirganj blocks of Gaya town from 55 km to 15 km. He travelled to New Delhi to get recognition of his work and was rewarded by then Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar."

This guy committed himself to 22 years of hard labor to carve a path through a mountain, and he improved life for everyone with his labor. He wasn't paid to do it. He received some help, but the majority of his work was done alone. He did it because his wife died a totally preventable death, and he said "never again".

I'm doing this shit because I don't feel well a lot of the time. That guy was a selfless, virtuous man who moved mountains out of love for his wife. This was a guy who moved a mountain because mountains are, indeed, dumb as fuck.

I'm really digging your storage method. Do you store each material in its corresponding shed? Like sand goes in the shed made of sand, gravel goes in the shed made of gravel, etc.
That's a cool idea, that's something I could do in time maybe.

The thing is that not all materials are made equal. In sheer density, the four most common materials are cobblestone, dirt, andesite and gravel. I have three double-chests full of the pink and white stone each, and about seven double chests worth of a mixture of coal, gravel, andesite and flint.

I'm only just finishing the first shed now, the other two will probably take an equally long time to fill up. Until there's a point where I can construct an andesite shed just for andesite, and a shed for the pink and white stuff each, there's not much point in making the distinction. But it is a cool idea.

I remember your other topic!

Why keep all the rock and dirt? That's so much stuff... Just carry a magma bucket and plop down the magma and chuck all the stone/dirt in it and then pick it back up.

Though last time I posted about getting an unbreakable efficiency etc. diamond pick you said this wasn't about speed/efficiency.

So good luck on your journey!
Collecting and storing everything is as much of the process as breaking it down is. I do get rid of stuff, like I've been killing cows and llamas for leather and throwing the meat away. I really fucking hate flint, but I've been collecting it and I think it'll be pretty cool if I ever get a full chest of it. Flowers are the bane of my existence, I have one single chest full of like saplings and flowers.

Seeing the extent to which I've reduced the world is one thing. Seeing all the materials I've broken down to get things this way is another.

Also I'm using all the cobblestone to make tools, lol. Probably why the chests are taking so long to fill up, though just about three quarters of that first shed is made up entirely of cobblestone.

Last post for now - here are two of my storage sheds.

The thing about this world is that it's very monotonous. I'm not playing the game so much as I'm conducting a task - there's not a lot of room for actual "play", as it were.

So I decided to make my sheds out of different materials. The first one is a dirt shed on a grassy plain, the second one is a sand shed on a sandy island and the third one is a stone shed on a flat stone surface.

I haven't documented the third shed yet, but here's the first two:

When I made the first shed, I had four blocks acting as stairs to reach the upper chests. The shed was built one block above sea level though, which means I had to dig out the floor. I didn't have enough room to add a fifth block to the row, it'd block the doorway or it'd impede my reach of the chests at the front by being too close.

So what I did was add arms to the top block of the stairs to act as walkways. It lets me access the top row of chests around the entire shed.

Apologies for the dark pictures, I try to take screenshots when it's lighter in the game but it's a pain in the ass waiting for daybreak and I've got shit to do y'know.

I began working on the land behind my first storage shed, because there are plains back there that go on forever. I did it because I wanted more space to build new sheds.

I started with an island, here's a before and after:

And here's the part behind my original storage shed - before I touched it, after stripping all the dirt and sand from it, and then completely flat:

This is a part I've cut off the end of what I've designated as "the bluffs". Lower picture was taken ages ago, hence the difference in XP and the lack of a storage shed in the bottom picture. From here, I actually turned the bluffs into a staircase - all the way across.

And this is where I'm up to now. This is the extent of my attempts to flatten everything to sea level:

Next post, I'll show off another direction I've been taking things in, and after that I'll show off a couple of my storage sheds.

I've made topics like this in the past, y'all know what's up - shit's fucked up and I don't feel great, so I've been flattening this Minecraft world by hand and it looks fucking awesome.

I wanted to post some up to date progress shots, I used to be a lot more meticulous about recording the process but it was getting in the way and it looked boring as fuck. I'm finally at a point where there's enough cool shit to post again.

Initially my focus was closer to sea level. I've cleared pretty much all the easy stuff to get it to sea level, but to keep making progress in that direction, I need to level some mountains to about 20 blocks above sea level to get everything level, and then demolish the land from there to make it completely flat. So right now I'm on mountain duty.

This is the progress I've made on this mountain so far. I still have over 50% to do, I basically sheared off a couple of rocky outcrops. I'm shearing off another outcrop, and then I'll probably quarter whatever's left and take them in bits and pieces.

This is the end goal of flatness for the time being. It'll probably be on the upper layer, this part of the map isn't entirely level but it's too much of a pain in the ass to level out to the same layer. It's all going down to sea level in the end, so this is fine for the time being.

That's a look at what I've done from further away. The big stone cube there is actually a shed I'm using to store materials from breaking down these mountains - you can see a crafting table next to it, lol. Dimensions of my sheds are 13x10, with 128 double-chests and 13 single chests per shed. I have three of them - the first one is completely full except for about 14 double-chests I'm trying to fill with cobblestone, the second one was made further away to start storing dirt due to another direction I began working in, and this third one has a bit of dirt and some assorted off-cuts like gravel, flint and coal. So I have one she'd that's almost full and two sheds that are empty as shit, lol.

Unpopular Opinion: the regular version of Careless Whisper sucks shit. You're listening to music, and then you hear this little drum beat - and you have half a second to hit skip before you get violated by that fucking meme riff. It is a fucking wretched experience, and I honestly kind of hate Careless Whisper for that.

So how do you fix a problem like that in Careless Whisper, a 5 minute pop song?

You add a minute and a half.

https://youtu.be/tFiMA_Id3A4

Everyone's like "oh man the sax riff in careless whisper is the sexiest riff in pop music history" - well guess what motherfuckers, the extended version is even more of a bedroom jam. It's the sonic equivalent of taking the time to light some candles and lightly caress your lady, vs the regular version where you're shoving your thick cock down your lady's throat from the word go.

A lesser example of this is The Scientist, where I hate hearing Chris Martin sing in my ear with a second's worth of plonking piano melody to warn me, but I love the album version where the piano has time to really set the tone and breathe:

It isn't because it's long, because Joseph Anderson videos are longer. It's because it's full of personality and humour, and the music choice is GODLIKE.

Like I don't want to spoil anything, but there's a scene at the end of Act 3 that actually made me gasp and go tight in the chest with how fucking awesome it was. Near the end of the video, there's also some licensed music I wasn't expecting.

It's like a really good YouTube video, like a Shammie or a ThorHighHeels video, stretched out to three hours.

It doesn't get dry like Noah Caldwell-Gervais or Joseph Anderson. It's funny and punchy and surprising all the way through. And then the guy pulled the biggest fucking power move and quit YouTube right after.

This is a perfect background video.

If you want to play competitively and win all the time, make enough friends to make up a party and play competitively. Otherwise, play your best, have fun and savor the victories you do get.

Maybe curse out a really, really stupid player from time to time, like a real asshole who drags down what might have been a pretty good team otherwise, but if you're going to be a crusty nutsack about a competitive game when you're playing by yourself with complete strangers - as if you're God's gift to competitive video games and everyone around you is a drooling moron who's holding you back specifically - do you really have a leg to stand on? You're playing with strangers. Play with friends if you want a reliable chance at winning.

In the immortal words of Arin Hanson:

"What, you think I came out the pussy drawing motherfucking Mozart?"

For a more generous paraphrase of a later statement - drawing is like a muscle, it's a skill that you can train. Anyone can draw with the right amount of time, dedication and patience.

I've never been a huge fan of MK but it was super cheap and I'm a big fighting game guy. I've heard alot of good things about MK11
Honestly, if you like cheesy fun, I would recommend the story mode if you haven't been playing it.

It is the end part of a loose trilogy, stuff isn't gonna make sense without the last two games worth of story - and it actually tries to pay off the entire series at the same time. But the story also gets really fucking stupid in the best possible way, and after MKX's limp Next Generation storyline, I enjoyed it a lot.

Oof. I managed to pick up on enough context from the comments alone.

It reminds me of the Christchurch mosque shootings, that shithead played Gas Gas Gas from the Initial D soundtrack as he was fleeing from the police. Apparently the YouTube comments on the song were full of people celebrating the shooting, quoting from his manifesto and calling for the eradication of all Muslims and shit.

Anyway TC, if the crystals in Final Fantasy bother you, play Dragon Quest instead. Unless you don't like the excessive use of dragons, in which case you should play Phantasy Star. Unless you think space travel and androids are blas, in which case... idk, go look at a cereal box or something.

The Boss's Will is an Irredescent Rare item that lets you craft The Boss, and the only way to get it is to pay with the Philosopher's Legacy premium currency to the tune of $30 real-world dollars.

If you want to fully uncap The Boss's level and unlock her full potential, you need 5 of The Boss's Will.
