I think your analogies aren't really strong enough to apply to a mosquito. Mosquito spread diseases aren't like "a nearby snake happened to get scared" that implies that the disease would spread naturally without the mosquito being involved

Like say a guy rips out a brush by the roots and brings it into your home as a joke, then when he dumps it into your living room the snake that was hiding until this point jumps out of the brush and bites you and you die.

Take it one step further. Say the guy, as a super elaborate prank, brings a brush from Florida to your home in New York. Same situation as before, but a coral snake, that isn't indigenous to New York, jumps out of the brush and kills you.

Accident or not who is responsible for killing you in that instance? Is it still the snake?

The stip is the only reason I consider picking Jericho. If it wasnt there I would be sure its MJF winning.

Er that's actually what I meant I think.

Either way!

The stip is making the winner hard to call so it's doing its job. Jericho doesn't actually have to lose for MJF to be elevated by the feud, and he probably shouldn't so Jericho actually is usable to elevate other guys. (arguably if he loses to MJF retirement stip or not he loses a lot of value there since MJF has been winning the feud soundly to this point)

But yeah AEW is smart in that it doesn't turn its older guys into glorified jobbers, so wins over them actually matter.

Jericho still has a lot to give as an in ring talent and I think AEW wants to be good with retirement stips

The fact that you've got a lot of people predicting MJF here shows the stip is doing its work and Jericho winning is a logical end to the feud that still made MJF look good

I will say that while MOST characters on my list are characters I dislike some of them are purely bad mechanics on a character I'm somewhat lukewarm on

Like Lulu isn't bad but feels completely unnecessary
Cyan isn't the worst but his skill is anti-fun to use for me
Strago isn't awful but he's a lot of investment for a character you get later in the game and Lore doesn't do anything that normal magic can't for the most part, not worth it
Red XIII and Cid are just kinda meh and all the characters in FFVII are basically the same anyway so why not use ones you like more

Aeris
Red XIII
Cid Highwind
Zidane (when allowed)
Eiko
Lulu
Kimahri
Hope
TG Cid
Crono (when allowed)

Presea

Others I've only played once or they force the party or they have far too many characters for this to be meaningful

Yes, that's what you're supposed to do in these games.

SRPGs are mostly tedious affairs that are satisfying if you're interested in progress.

if killing all the enemies except for one, then using them to level your defense and healing statistics sounds fun, you're in the right place

You could also get good

I've cooled on jRPGs and Strategy RPGs

I've warmed on Fighting and Action

But I don't think that's a result of my tastes fundamentally changing-- it's the games themselves. I can still fire the old RPGs back up and I can still be captured by a new gem. I still find I like old fighters, just not as much as PS2 Era+ ones.

No genres have I really flipped on my head on.

Honestly had I not played Civilization much I would have this number at really low. Only FPS games I really got into are Halo and Doom which have you killing aliens and demons. I mean I guess there's RPGs but I gotta figure that's gonna add up to a few thousand tops.

Civilization makes it tough though. Probably in the billions just from a handful of late game domination victories. (Early game too but the population of the earth is much lower if you're resolving most of your military squabbling by 1000ad)

Fairly confident I'm not coming remotely close to breaching trillions though. It's probably low billions. 10 billion tops I figure.

I'm not saying you can just have him flip right there after getting to the cabin, story as presented. You have to introduce elements to the story that aren't there before to massage it along but the fundamental characters personalities to me it isn't a stretch at all.

Basically Dexter needs to "redeem" himself in some way before Doakes collects all the pieces. Save his life, save the life of someone close to him, murder someone Doakes really REALLY hates but can't catch, give Dexter some form of perceived leverage over Doakes where he doesn't think it's a good idea to go for it right away. I mean those are just really basic ideas off the top of my head, but the principle idea is that I don't think that Doakes conceptually would necessarily be against the idea of a vigilante if it wasn't him, so not immediately crushing him isn't out of the realm of possibility to me if the story was laid out a bit differently.

And because he appears to hate Dexter so much no matter what the option is you don't ever take it as a given he's letting Dexter get away with it, that's why it'd still be intriguing.

As good as Doakes is, it'd be absurd if he was around much longer with the extent he hounded Dexter. He would have quickly started feeling like Wile E. Coyote.

HanOfTheNekos posted...
I could have accepted a Doakes face-turn right before he finds out that Dexter is actually a killer.

This is the way to do it. I think the progression in Season 1 and Season 2 was about right but the conclusion was wrong.

There is a LOT of intrigue to be had where it's a battle of Doakes allowing Dexter to do his thing, vs Dexter maybe going too borderline for his tastes. You can have Doakes really know but not quite be in the position where he wants to act for whatever reason very easily-- him being morally grey is an easy sell if you write him even just a little different, but at the same time he's LESS morally grey than Dexter so neither guy is going to trust the other or have any sort of alliance. And Dexter knows or suspects he knows but can't just murder him for obvious reasons, but maybe kinda wants to-- just a lot of layers there and they weren't all really explored too well.

I'm not saying you can keep it going for 8 seasons but until 3 or 4? Absolutely. And it's more compelling than what we get, for sure.

Feel like this topic is partially my fault.

2 > 1 >> 3 > 4 >> 7 >> 6 > 5 >> 8

Doakes was so necessary to the show's dynamic working. If you could have slow burned that to Season 4 and then ended the series shortly after you'd have a legendary TV show probably.

As is I still like Dexter in spite of the baggage. 5 and 6 were at least watchable at points, and those first few seasons were so good

It isn't ever boring because as others have said the pacing is outstanding.

But it doesn't really hit any high notes to speak of. There just isn't much that feels exciting and properly built to.

Magus stuff in 600 AD is about it for me.

That being said it's not bad at all. If the cast was filled with fun characters I could easily rate it closer to 10 as good character interactions can carry a mediocre story easily, but they're for the most part drab template characters only there to fit in their places as the story needs them.

Despite being the worst actual song

Cult of Personality on the flip side is a great song that is a terrible wrestling theme that only sorta works because Punk has used it so long that it just brings him to mind, which is ultimately a good thing

Miseria is somewhere in the middle, better song than Fire Burns but kinda weird as a wrestling theme too-- I feel like it's TOO hype to really work as a wrestling theme you use all the time. Seems like a song you'd use for a special match from time to time, not a thing you use every week
