A transgender man was left feeling disgusted and ashamed after being refused service at a barbershop and told "we don't cut women's hair." James, who did not wish to give his surname, claims he was turned away from Horwich Barber in Bolton on Saturday. The 20-year-old, who transitioned two years ago, visited the barber in Greater Manchester for a haircut at around 4.30pm. Having visited the salon three times before, he entered the shop and asked staff if they were still open. But he was shocked to be told "we are open but we don't cut women's hair", he told Manchester Evening News (MEN). James, a pub chef, said: It was shocking as I have been before. Since transitioning, things havent been the easiest to talk about or anything like that. I felt disgusted being treated like I didnt even matter. I felt so bad and ashamed of my body. Due to me being transgender, being called a woman is very hurtful and disrespectful." James told how he was forced to leave the premises and left feeling ashamed of his body after being misgendered. He said he spoke out to raise awareness of the issue while many people are still scared to leave their homes for fear of being misgendered. The 20-year-old claims he had visited the shop on three previous occasions ( It would be good to put a highlight on this issue due to there being so many people who are scared to go outside without being judged on what they look like or sound like, and scared of being misgendered," he said. Experts have found that transgender people who begin hormone treatment in adolescence had fewer suicidal thoughts, were less likely to experience major mental health disorders and had fewer problems with substance abuse than those who started hormones later in life. The study, which was led by the Stanford University School of Medicine, gathered data from the largest-ever survey of US transgender adults where 27,715 people responded in 2015. Researchers found that, as well as fewer mental health concerns when taking the drugs as teenagers, those who took the drugs at any age had better mental health than those who wanted them but had never received them. Of the people surveyed, 21,598 reported they had received the hormones they wanted. Of these people, 119 began hormones at age 14 or 15; 362 at age 16 and 17 and 12,157 following their 18th birthday. Some 8,860 people surveyed said they wanted but never received hormone therapy and acted as the control group for the study. Odds of severe psychological distress were reduced by 222 per cent, 153 per cent and 81 per cent for those who began hormones in early adolescence, late adolescence and adulthood, respectively. Odds of feeling suicidal in the previous year were 135 per cent lower in those who began hormones in early adolescence, 62 per cent lower in those who began in late adolescence and 21 per cent lower in those who began as adults, compared with the control group Dr Jack Turban, lead author on the study and expert in paediatric and adolescent psychiatry at Stanford Medicine, said: This study is particularly relevant now because many state legislatures are introducing bills that would outlaw this kind of care for transgender youth. We are adding to the evidence base that shows why gender-affirming care is beneficial from a mental health perspective. In the UK, hormone drugs can only be given to people from the age of 16 who have been on puberty blockers for at least 12 months. Last September, the UK Court of Appeal overturned a judgment that children under the age of 16 considering gender reassignment were unlikely to be mature enough to give informed consent to be prescribed puberty-blocking drugs. Dr Erin Pritchard, a lecturer in disability studies at Liverpool Hope University, argued the word midget was a form of hate speech. M&S has now rebranded the popular treats as Mini Gems. A spokeswoman said the store was "committed to being an inclusive retailer". They go to a crappy planet of hippies that's full of resources. Then Klingons turn up and are like "Aww yeah, gonna get me some of dat!" and Kirk is like "Oh shit, dem klingons gon fuck you up! You better agree to join our federation so we can fight them for you" And it becomes a weird game of Kirk trying to convince the Hippies to let them fight the Klingons and the Klingons threatening to kill everyone as the Hippies refuse to use violence even as the Klingons massacre them. Then the twist at the end is that the hippes are actually super advanced alien life beings who don't really have a physical form (they were just pretending too for literally no reason) because they are so far evolved beyond us. So then they make all the weapons and computer consoles super duper hot so neither the Klingons or Humans can use them and it forces them both into an unwanted peace due to a literal inability to kill each other. The moral is about how it's wrong to assume violence is the correct solution to a problem just because you're morally better than the otherside..I think.. I dunno. It kinda sucked. BUT! The implications of enforced peace between people who hate each other? I find that fascinating. Imagine if these advanced alien beings came to Earth and were like "U guys nutz, no more fight plz" and suddenly every gun, every sword, every tank, every military drone, every nuke, every bomb.
