And there he goes with his thesis on why we should love antivaxxers. Right on cue lol.

I never never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever said you should love antivaxxers and fuck you for lying about that. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I said you should passionately oppose them and still feel sympathy towards the dead and their famlies.

Pretending not getting off to people dying and their greiving families is loving anti-vaxxers is madness. Should be a moderation really.

The difference here is liver disease just physically affects the one person. Them allowing Covid to continue mutating and spreading is affecting thousands of others. N

You're missing the forest for the trees and being too hyperliteral

I'm not disagreeing with you on the outrage towards anti-vaxxers (Every anti-vaxxer on this site despises me because I'm so agressively pro-vax and have been pointing it out for years that they literally lie about where I live just to promote anti-vax, and yeah that doesn't make anysense but it does to them)

My point is that death is still sad. The person is still dead, The family still suffers, the doctors and nurses who snuck time, effort and resources into keeping them alive still happened.

A human being, a conciousness who thought, slept, dreamed, loved, hated, contemplated and was utterly unique to any other conciousness in history has been snuffed out.

Even if it's a foolish person dying for a stupid reason, that still sucks and yes I feel bad for them and their family. That's called being human

Hell the reason I'm so pro-vaccinations and anti disinformation is BECAUSE i want people to live long happy lives. Not caring about the deaths of people because you deemed them inferior just seems dark and fucked up to me.

You can oppose anti-vaxxers and Trumpers and Truthers and Flat-Earthers with a passion and still feel sympathy when they die. They're not ants crawling on your daughter's birthday cake, they're human beings.

The point was that if what you claim on these boards is actually true you would have been a little kid over 6,000 miles away in another country. You would have absolutely no idea who OJ Simpson was or anything about the trial. So you trying to lecture us about the effect of the OJ trial on our country 26 years later based on stuff you just read on the internet five minutes before posting is a joke.
What in the holy fuck are you even on about?

The ESPN OJ Documentary is fantastic and highly recommended.

This was "get one back for Rodney." I used to think that way when I was younger and this was going on, and then I saw the crime scene photos of Goldman and Nicole Brown. You can almost see her spinal cord.

Also the Netflix(?) mini series dramataization of it is pretty good. Although obviously sensationalized

You're traveling along one day when you realize your phone doesn't have any signal. You find a taven and decide to have a quick drink. When you enter you find it candlelit with a bunch of strange people playing cards and music.

They all have fragile smiles that crumble with incredible ease.

The bar matron gives you a mug of beer for free and says there's no point in charging you.

You ask her whats wrong and she says

"Adria the Sorceress at Dark Penance Tower atop the hill out on the outskirts has been unleashing demons and monsters upon our town every night. I fear what will become of us if she is not stopped. Half the town is dead or fleeing. We're all here in denial."

The fact you think the case only effected LA and wasn't massive national news every day for months on end (hell the trial was literally filmed) says it all about how little you know about

They had to air the verdict in schools due to fear parnets would keep their kids home that day to watch the verdict at home. You're probably too young to know what pre modern Internet times were like but it was easier for an entire nation to focus or talk about one thing than it is now

Also note how just like with Anti-vaxxers, when faced with facts you can't respond to, the guy with no argument or point resorts to ranting about the UK.

The reason he got away is because the police, because if their racism, bungled the case and tainted a lot of evidence. They're the ones responsible for him going free.
not really. The evidence was overwhelming despite the literal nazi police

He got off because

  1. He was rich, massively beloved celebrity
  2. A lot of people loved seeing a black guy unfairly beat the system after centuries of the system unfairly beating black guys.
Neither of these 2 factors can be downplayed or dismissed. Take away either and he would have been found guilty.

A lot of people consisered what OJ did to be "revenge" on some kind of national/cultural level as sick as that sounds.

It's a dark chapter of US history for sure. Legally, morally, culturally. Ron Goldman was never treated like a murder victim, he was treated like a punchline.

A ton of the media coverage about the case was put on how bitchy the white female prosectuion lawyer with bad hair seemed. Rather than the fact OJ killed 2 people and everything she said was right.

Police suck and should be changed but "OJ got off because a cop was racist." is a complete mischaracteraization of events and attitudes

Basic human compassion

I'm as pro vax as it comes and I still feel bad for any family that now has an empty seat at the dinner table, any daughter who grows up without a dad,

It sucks.

Do you go up to people who died of liver disease and go "Well he did drink too much so fuck him"?

Stupid people do stupid things, that doesn't negate the consequences of death

IT's such a lazy attempt to derail attempts to stop homophobia.

Dunno about New Zealand but in the UK the amount of racist abuse Meghan got was absurd

I literally laughed out when Piers Morgan (Well reknowned racist and asshole) spent years trashing Meghan at every turn with everything he could. Claiming she;s lying and never would feel depressed or suicidal from abuse and she needs to toughen up

Then once when one co host politely disagreed with him for 14 seconds, he ran off stage in a huff

There is so much racism and hypocrisy in the UK

TopicLethal venom from world's deadliest spiders may be life saving treatment say Dr
UnfairRepresent
08/07/21 7:47:41 PM

Australian researchers discovered a potentially life-saving treatment for heart attacks inside a very unlikely sourcethe venom of one of the worlds deadliest spiders.

A drug candidate developed from a molecule found in the venom of the Fraser Island (Kgari) funnel web spider can prevent damage caused by a heart attack, as well as extend the life of donor hearts for organ transplants.

The discovery was made by a team led by Professor Peter Macdonald from the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in Australia and colleagues at The University of Queensland.

Macdonald said this incredible result had been decades in the making:

This will not only help the hundreds of thousands of people who have a heart attack every year, it could also increase the number and quality of donor hearts, which will give hope to those waiting on the transplant list.

Dr Palpant, from UQs Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB), said the drug candidate worked by stopping a death signal sent from the heart in the wake of an attack.

After a heart attack, blood flow to the heart is reduced, resulting in a lack of oxygen to heart muscle. The lack of oxygen causes the cell environment to become acidic, which combine to send a message for heart cells to die.

Despite decades of research, no one has been able to develop a drug that stops this death signal in heart cells, which is one of the reasons why heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death in the world.

Dr. Palpant tested the drug candidate, a protein called Hi1a, using beating human heart cells exposed to heart attack stresses to see if the drug improved their survival.

The Hi1a protein from spider venom blocks acid-sensing ion channels in the heart, so the death message is blocked, cell death is reduced, and we see improved heart cell survival.
There are currently no drugs in clinical use that prevent the damage caused by heart attacks.

The survival of heart cells is vital in heart transplantstreating hearts with Hi1a and reducing cell death will increase how far the heart can be transported and improve the likelihood of a successful transplant, said Macdonald.

Usually, if the donor heart has stopped beating for more than 30 minutes before retrieval, the heart cant be used even if we can buy an extra 10 minutes, that could make the difference between someone having a heart and someone missing out. For people who are literally on deaths door, this could be life-changing.

The small protein in the venom of this spider was shown to markedly improve recovery from stroke, amazingly reducing damage to the brain even when it is given up to eight hours after stroke onset, said UQ Professor Glenn King.

For heart attack victims, our vision for the future is that Hi1a could be administered by first responders in the ambulance, which would really change the health outcomes of heart disease.

This would particularly important in rural and remote areas where patients are far from hospitalswhen every second counts.

This could also allow donor hearts to be transported over longer distances and therefore increasing the network of available donors and recipients.

Dr. Sarah Scheuer says their research, published in the journal Circulation, initially just looked just at the effect of venom but moved down a whole new path of discovery when they identified a specific pathway that played a key role in damaging the heart tissue after oxygen loss.

We found that an acid-sensing ion channel played a significant role in causing injury to the heart. By blocking that channel, we were able to prevent some of the injury that usually occurs.

The protein has been tested in human heart cells, and the team is aiming for human clinical trials, for both stroke and heart disease, to begin within two to three years, possibly leading to a new way of reversing the damage from heart attacks by using a potent, spider-derived antidote.

Would you forgive them?

You're at home one day when your old friend you haven't seen in a while turns up at your door, carrying a big sack like Santa Claus.

"Heya! Long time no see. This is a little awkward but I've got some things for you." She says and before you could spell your name she had opened the sack and is taking things out of it.

As she starts pulling things from out of her sack you realize it's all your things that went missing over the years.

You just assumed you had lost them.

"You see I'm a keleptmaniac. I used to steal things from people, sometimes to buy drugs, sometimes for no reason. But don't worry! I'm clean now, through Gods grace, no drugs for 9 months, no stealing for 7. I've got a proper job at Dominos Pizza now and everything." she says with positive energy while flashing a sobriety token.

"But Wesley, the big black British man who runs my support group, suggested that it wasn't enough just to get better and that I should try to make amends... And i think he is right so I'm returning everything that I took from anyone. Some of your stuff was broken or i lost it, ironically, so I bought some brand new replacements. Hope that's okay.'

Oh and one more thing." She rustles inside her top and takes out a crumpled $20 bill, then hands it to you

'I also took about $19.67 worth of food from your fridge over time. I thought this made more sense than dumping a load of groceries you may not even want... So... errr... Thank the good Lord above and.... are we cool? Peace?' she says nervously.

It's split across generational lines. UK drinks approx 150 million cups of tea a day and approx 100 million cups of coffee (reminder, population is about 66 million and not all of them drink it)

Buuuuut. Every single day tea drinking goes down and coffee goes up. And it's been like that for 30 years. Coffee shops are everywhere and they are identical to US coffee shops.

Under 30s drink WAAAAAAAAY more coffee than tea and every day as more 65+ers die, the numbers even out.

Basically tea used to be a cultural British thing where everyone drank it in the morning and offered it to collegues and friends at work until the Internet Age where everyone discovered coffee was superior. Now it's a dying trend for the Boomers.

Slowly dying but dying none the less.

So yes and no is the answer.
