Racist. Driving? Racist. Cable television? Racist. Covid disproportionally affects blacks and Hispanics. It racist too?

covid-19 itself isn't racist, but the effect it has on a given demographic is not due exclusively to the virus itself.

for example:
the US medical system is racist
the history that leads to black and hispanic people in the US being poorer (and thus more likely to be working jobs that put them at high risk of contact with covid-19 in the first place) is racist

Their genes are meant to dominate at sports. Genetically built to endure. Not all of them but a very large percentage, more than half.

I read an article years ago about race and genetics. Very interesting stuff. Asians and middle easterns are extremely good with tech, math and calculations. South Pacific people are supposed to be tough and resilient, Caucasians in leadership, Latinos hard working with will power, etc.

If you're mixed in any way, you're the best of both worlds or more.

Ill try to act a little more mature as you seem to be:

I guess ive grown accustomed to it since its such a norm for the genre and i like it as it were.

To manually fill the map makes it seem like the opposite of what it should do and i dont find filling it fun.

Sure, maturely, ill admit its a design choice i simply dont enjoy. Usually i glance at the map and pick where im going. I feel the gameplay slows if i actively feel lost and need to look around.

I just played sotn again and shadow complex: check map -> go there. Boom feels good.

Fine: this is all my opinion and i just dont like it because i feel a momentum with checking map and going versus having to fill a map out.

at its core, Hollow Knight is a game about exploring. the functionality of the map, whether or not you like it, is effective at contributing to the concept

James Brown played guitar, drums and piano. MJ would sing the melodies to whoever was playing the instrument. But I dont think comparing modern day artists to the legends of yesterday is a good metric to define what would be a "modern day legend". Shit has changed and the definition would change with the times I would assume.

it's also extremely reductive to frame it as though James Brown (or Michael Jackson, or anyone else) was some sort of godlike figure with a level of skill that no one could ever attain.

he was a member of a community, who happened to become more well-known than other members of that community. he was not the only one performing in that style. by whatever metrics you're using to define "good", there were others that were "better" than him, and there still are today.

I really hate the whole concept of a "legend" because it tends to separate individual figures from that historical context

Its just that uncovering new sections of the map should be in real-time and not have you wandering around empty space on the map until you rest and then it shows you where youve been like its some fucking puzzle.
You should know where the fuck you are on the map. The fact you have to buy some bullshit just to see your icon on the map is dumb too, but its not a big deal. And this might not seem like a big deal either, but it is for me, because I get lost often and its ridiculously frustrating.

why "should" that be the case? so that you personally get more enjoyment out of it?

It had like basically no budget and went with a minimalistic style. The lack of detail of HK versus Miriam is staggering.

I get now its the little budget that could versus the millionaire IGA. I guess with that in mind HK is much more impressive.

The story is weak as hell so far. Im early so i wont double down on this but i am comparing it to many metroids or metroidvanias and is weak compared to those.

they're pretty opaque, but the story and lore are definitely not weak. they can be hard to understand though, because they're relayed to you... pretty much exclusively through poetry

And if im comparing it to Bloodstained, imo, that game destroys Hollow Knight. At least the beginning but theres plenty of story in BS versus HKs main is nameless. Thats pathetic. Hollow Knight already looks like poo to me but Miriam looks great with a good personality and story....

again, that's a matter of you not liking the graphics style. which is fine. but I found the hand-drawn aesthetic really beautiful, and saying it doesn't have a "good personality" is just blatantly wrong

Its a weird decision and odd imo, obviously for anyone to prefer this versus its magically done for you. Its pointless busy work and literally makes the map worse and a chore out the gate.

Again, even comparing it to Super Metroid or Symphony of the Night this game seems like a really minimalistic take on those games in everything it does besides making the map a chore, something that was a non-issue in all other -vanias.

These seemingly harsh or "trolling" critiques come from when the general consensus its its one of the greatest games of a generation. Just calling it goods fine by me but if its going to be so hyped then im heavily critiquing it. Youre free to disagree or ignore me or theres a literal hide topic function.

your problem is that you don't like it. it is fine to not like a specific mechanic in a game. it is not fine to suggest that that mechanic is a step backwards because you don't like it
