  1. Because they work long hours and don't have the time and energy to go make friends on their limited "off time"
  2. Because promotions and such aren't the slightest bit merit-based, and being popular with your colleagues will help you get ahead on the totem pole
  3. Because they have lulls in the work but are still stuck there bored out of their minds, so they may as well socialize since doing stuff on their phone/computer looks like slacking off, but talking to co-workers can be framed as a "meeting" if the micro-managing supervisor shows up

He was so concerned about the safety of the child in his car that he drove like a reckless moron before the confrontation, then even more recklessly once it was safe, in order to flee the crime scene (or, even if you believe him, to call a lawyer, that's not a physical safety issue especially for the child), hitting cars along the way creating impacts that could've harmed the child.
He didn't exhibit any concern for the child, just himself.

Also if they overcharge (like they did with George Zimmerman and Casey Anthony) then he might be not guilty. If they go for a lesser charge like manslaughter then I be they could win it easier.
Those weren't "overcharges" and at most you could say maybe 2nd degree murder instead of 1st degree. The fact they're already going w/ 1st degree probably means they're confident they can back it up in court, though. No fucking way is this less than some degree of murder.

Also, the fact this murderous LOSER is a dad at 19 just made me recall my shop teacher's epic rant in HS, wherein he complained that he, an early-20's productive member of society, gainfully employed, with no criminal record at all, had to pay outrageous amounts for auto insurance, while as some teenage drug addict and criminal pays less than him b/c he knocked some girl up in HS and was thus a "father" and in a lower insurance premium bracket.

And that "rub" was so good that just like 1-2 months later, fans were booing him and rooting for The Fiend to take the title off of him...

Andrew Yang (who is a big wrestling fan) repeatedly said if he was part of Biden's admin, he'd specifically investigate WWE and pro wrestling's use of independent contractors and bring the hammer down.
But sadly, Biden didn't pick him for anything and he's apparently going to be mayor of NYC instead.

Passed the rub on to who?
Even MORE part time Goldberg (first guy to beat him clean, before they 50/50 booked it to give Lesnar his win back)?
Roman Reigns, who was so hated by the fans that it took a literal cancer diagnosis for them to stop booing him (but still not really cheering)?
Seth Rollins, who got over on his own and if anything his sketchy WM 35 win and then hot potato of the title to an from Lesnar a few months later basically killed interest in his reign?

Lesnar spent half a fucking decade burying the entire active roster, and it's that godawful booking that lead to the huge drop off in viewers over that time period and since. Like, why the fuck should we get invested in any of these dudes when Lesnar is just gonna show up again someday, destroy everybody in his path, and immediately get a title shot and win it?

Beating Undertaker was a poor decision, but it's utterly dwarfed by how terrible his booking was since then. Like, it almost seems quaint to be mad about breaking the streak now compared to everything his run in WWE has been since then.

It was delicious watching the SD ratings plummet to below USA Network levels within a month on Fox (in twice as many homes...) after God Beast Lesnar truly jumped the shark on the Fox premiere episode, at least.

Do they? Seems like less and less places even try to bid b/c they realize even in good times, it's a money-loser.
I think it's the IOC that opposes just doing it in Greece every time. Then they don't get wined and dined and bribed by the countries bidding. Also the reason I suspect that the options that involve forfeiting a later year either to Japan or via sliding everything back isn't even on the table.

What do you think makes the most sense?

https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1102962/pinsent-tokyo-olympics-moved-to-2024

The current plan is to push ahead no matter what, and just have the games with no fans traveling to Japan (and potentially even Japanese fans largely kept out of the stadiums). Which, after the billions spent on the Olympics is a pretty massive slap in the face to Japan's businesses, already projecting catastrophic losses from not having an actual Games.
Delaying another year might be the fix, but w/ the new strains, it's hard to tell if things will be better that soon.

The former IOC member in the above link shares my thoughts: just freaking shift all the locations back by 4 years. Seems the most fair and reasonable response, but incredibly the current IOC isn't even considering it and instead insane pitches like Summer 2032 or Winter 2030 are being pitched more.
They say it's Tokyo 2020's choice, but if Japan privately asked for an alternative and were shut down by the IOC, it's hardly a "choice".
Seems like a situation where IOC thinks, "F*** you, I already got 'yo money!" towards poor Japan...

Four-time Olympic champion Sir Matthew Pinsent has suggested moving the Tokyo Olympics to 2024 after claiming it would be "ludicrous" to stage the Games in 2021 against the backdrop of a global health crisis.
Sir Matthew, a former member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), also believes Paris and Los Angeles should host the Games four years later than planned to accommodate Tokyo in his proposed reshuffle.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics are now scheduled to run from July 23 to August 8, with the Paralympics due to follow from August 24 to September 5.
"Once again the IOC need courageous leadership," wrote Pinsent in a separate social media post.
"The idea of Olympic athletes, officials, delegations getting vaccine priority is antithetical.
"The risks of 000s of people flying round the world to gather unvaccinated is ludicrous."
Senior IOC member Richard Pound suggested prioritising athletes for the COVID-19 vaccine would be the "most realistic way" of ensuring the Games can take place this year.
Speaking in November 2020, IOC President Thomas Bach encouraged athletes to have a COVID-19 vaccination before Tokyo 2020.
Bach insisted it would not be an entry requirement, with the IOC repeatedly stressing it supports priority access for high-risk groups and healthcare workers.
Despite concerns over a rise in COVID-19 cases, organisers remain steadfast in their preparations for the Games.

For what it's worth, the current plan of pushing ahead at all costs is massively opposed by Japanese citizens, a whopping 72% of which (understandably) don't want the games to happen this summer and cause an inevitable outbreak.

https://www.cbssports.com/olympics/news/tokyo-olympics-72-percent-of-japanese-polled-want-the-games-canceled-or-postponed-over-slow-vaccine-rollout/

"Amid lingering concern over a fourth coronavirus wave and the slow progress of vaccination, the poll found 39.2 percent believe the postponed Olympics and Paralympics should be canceled, while 32.8 percent think they should be rescheduled. Only 24.5 percent responded that the games should be held as scheduled."

While he's by no means the greatest inventor of all time, and I'm not sure if all of his discoveries count as inventions, gotta give props to Genghis Khan, too.
He created the Mongols' written language and laws, created a message delivery system by horseback that was the precursor of the Pony Express and modern postal service, implemented silk garments worn under armor to enable safe and easy removal of arrow wounds, innovated existing cavalry archer feigned retreat tactics to their most effective version, was possibly the first to use espionage for psychological warfare (infiltrate the society and spread fear of the Mongols so the people would want to surrender w/o fighting), and more.

Also, I wish to submit my choice for the worst inventor of all time:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Midgley_Jr.

Dude invented Freon (CFC) that destroyed the ozone layer and developed highly toxic lead paint. He died by strangulation from his own rope and pulley invention, fittingly enough.

Midgley's legacy has been scarred by the negative environmental impact of leaded gasoline and Freon. Environmental historianJ. R. McNeill opined that Midgley "had more impact on the atmosphere than any other single organism in Earth's history", and Bill Bryson remarked that Midgley possessed "an instinct for the regrettable that was almost uncanny".

Time magazine included both leaded gasoline and CFCs on its list of "The 50 Worst Inventions".

"SWATTers" didn't turn them into a "joke", police did that themselves. Even w/o people calling in false reports, SWAT teams still get used for an ever increasing amount of minor crimes.

Wikipedia (I'm feeling lazy, too bad): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Militarization_of_police

Peter Kraska, a criminal justice professor at Eastern Kentucky University, found that the prevalence of SWAT teams, among police agencies serving populations of at least 50,000 people, doubled from the mid-1980s to the late-1990s, rising to 89% of police agencies by the end of this time period. Among smaller police agencies (covering areas with between 25,000 and 50,000 people), the proportion with SWAT teams rose from 20% in the mid-198-s to 80% in the mid-2000s. Kraska says: "When people refer to the militarization of police, it's not in a pejorative or judgmental sense.Contemporary police agencies have moved significantly along a continuum culturally, materially, operationally, while using a Navy SEALs model. All of those are clear indications that they're moving away from a civilian model of policing."
A 2014 ACLU report, War Comes Home: The Excessive Militarization of American Policing, concluded that "American policing has become unnecessarily and dangerously militarized ..." The report examined 818 uses of SWAT teams by more than 20 law enforcement agencies in 11 U.S. states from the period of July 2010 to October 2013. Military-style tactics used by such teams include nighttime raids, use of battering rams, use of flashbangs, overwhelming displays of force, and the wearing of helmets and masks.
The use of SWAT teams became especially common for drug searches. The ACLU study found that 62% of SWAT deployments were for drug raids, and that 79% involved raids on private homes; the study found that only "7% fell into those categories for which the technique was originally intended, such as hostage situations or barricades". In some cases, civilians, including infants, were killed or injured due to police use of force in military style raids. In other cases, residents of affected neighborhoods reported experiencing psychological trauma as a result of militaristic law-enforcement tactics. The use of force and military-style equipment during such raids prompted criticism, particularly from civil libertarians such as Radley Balko, who wrote on the topic in his book Rise of the Warrior Cop: The Militarization of America's Police Forces.
The Chicago Police Department (CPD) have been accused of operating a secret "black site" in Homan Square where suspects were held without being booked and registered and where they could not be found by their attorneys or families. Suspects were allegedly shackled and beaten.

Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams are law enforcement units in the United States that use specialized or military equipment and tactics. First created in the 1960s for riot control or violent confrontations with criminals, the number and usage of SWAT teams increased in the 1980s and 1990s during the War on Drugs, and in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. In the United States today, SWAT teams are deployed 50,000-80,000 times every year, 80% of the time in order to serve search warrants, most often for narcotics. SWAT teams are increasingly equipped with military-type hardware and are trained to deploy against threats of terrorism, for crowd control, and in situations beyond the capabilities of ordinary law enforcement, sometimes deemed "high-risk". Other countries have developed their own paramilitary police units (PPU)s that are also described as or compared to SWAT police forces. SWAT units are often equipped with specialized firearms including submachine guns, assault rifles, breaching shotguns, sniper rifles, riot control agents, and stun grenades. They have specialized equipment including heavy body armor, ballistic shields, entry tools, armored vehicles, advanced night vision optics, and motion detectors for covertly determining the positions of hostages or hostage takers, inside enclosed structures.
The increased use of SWAT teams is a hallmark of increased police militarization. The Cato Institute's Radley Balko wrote that during the 1970s, there were about 300 SWAT raids a year and as of 2005 there were 40,000 a year. SWAT teams being used for gambling crackdowns and serving a search warrant are routine in some places, like Fairfax, VA. "There has been a more than 1400% increase in the amount of SWAT deployments between 1980 and 2000, according to estimates ... by Eastern Kentucky University professor Peter Kraska." Balko states that in 2007, "... a Dallas SWAT team raided a Veterans [organization's] ... charity poker games. In 2010, a team of heavily armed Orange County, Florida, sheriff's deputies raided several barbershops, holding barbers and customers at gunpoint while they turned the shops inside out. Of the 37 people arrested, 34 were taken in for "barbering without a license". The Orlando barbershop raids were subsequently challenged in court, and in 2014, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit ruled that it violated "clearly established Fourth Amendment rights" for the government to conduct "a run-of-the-mill administrative inspection as though it is a criminal raid".
The ACLU has stated that "... heavily armed SWAT teams are raiding people's homes in the middle of the night, often just to search for drugs", causing people to "needlessly di[e] during these raids", in which neighborhoods are turned into "warzones".

Excessive bolding to aid the mentally challenged who still defend this shit from having to read all of that.

Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office released video late Friday of the shooting of Isaiah Brown, 32, who's in critical condition in a hospital with 10 bullet wounds following the shooting early Wednesday.
Details: Sheriff Roger Harris released body camera footage and a 911 call from Brown at a news conference confirming that the unnamed deputy had been placed on administrative leave.
During the call, a man identified as Brown can be heard saying he'll kill his brother and "give me the gun" after his brother won't let him in to retrieve his car keys. He tells the dispatcher several times he does not have a gun.
The deputy who gave Brown a ride home some 45 minutes earlier after his car broke down responded to the call as a "domestic incident."
The deputy can be heard saying "he's got a gun to his head" before telling him to drop it and to stop walking toward him. Gunshots can be heard ringing out.
What they're saying: Browns lawyer, David Haynes, said in a statement to news outlets, "The officer mistook a cordless house phone for a gun.
"There is no indication that Isaiah did anything other than comply with dispatchs orders and raised his hands with the phone in his hand as instructed."

Apparently the best way to prevent someone w/ a gun to their head from killing themselves is to try to do it for them....
Given the typical aim of cops, if he was hit 10 times, I wonder how many times he was shot at, total?

Lea says she is a Republican for life and no matter what, she will not turn her back on the party no matter who is in charge.
Such utterly blind loyalty is disgusting and terrifying. No matter which party it is.
Picking the lesser evil is one thing, at least it leaves open the possibility of switching sides if your preferred party nominates someone abhorrent.
This stance is 100% compliance no matter what.

Maybe teach kids not to run away from cops with the intent of hiding a recently fired firearm kinda like stop-drop-and-roll when you catch on fire instead of run-panic-throw a loaded gun while being commanded to put hands in the air.
If what the one poster said was true, that some other guy fired it then tossed it to the kid then ran, I can't really blame the kid at all. Probably had no idea what was going on.

If it is true, then it's one of the rare cases where felony murder actually makes sense to be applied. Fucker set up a child to get killed by cops for what he just did as he used the kid as decoy to run away.

Eh, the law isn't going to drop the hammer on these fuckers nearly as hard as it should, so I genuinely hope the "enterprising" people of the area try to claim as much damages as possible and take them to the cleaners in civil court.

And yes, I'm still pissed off the dude in like AZ or CA whose gender reveal party started a giant wildfire got off so easily.

EDIT: The reason I couldn't remember which state had the giant wildfire from such a party is because the answer was... BOTH!

Has anything like this ever happened before?
Gender reveal parties started out innocently enough, with expecting couples popping balloons filled with colored powder or cutting blue or pink cakes. But as time has gone by, they have gotten more and more elaborate, and in some cases, dangerous.
In some cases, serious injury or even deaths have been reported. Three years ago, a Tannerite explosion at an Arizona gender reveal started a massive wildfire that burned 45,000 acres.
And in 2020, a pyrotechnic device used at a gender-reveal party caused a major wildfire in California.

I'd also quantify 400 Asians as quite a small number of Asians. You must be pretty sheltered O_O!
Reminds me of the whole bs "cultural appropriation" stuff

A few Asian Americans whining about white people wearing cheongsam/qipao and other traditional Chinese clothing. Then I think serpentza or someone else in China goes and shows people on the street pics of the "appropriation" what they think about it and it's unanimous approval and happiness that other people are interested in their culture.

Just a small bunch of hyper sheltered Western far-left crazies speaking loudly to make people think they're not a fringe.

Sounds like he just offended the super far left woke cancel culture SJW crazies, who get offended by everything.
Hopefully he doesn't apologize.

The right's problem is they don't apologize ever, even when they really should.
The left's problem is they always apologize, even when they really shouldn't, and just end up looking weak and insincere.

I also love how anyone critical of Islam at all is a "-phobe". It's fucking Sam Harris! He's about as left as anyone with any degree of influence, and smarter than most people, too.

I'm 100% in favor of legalizing prostitution but had to vote No because this law sounds like complete bs and the question was "is this fair?"

Someone getting a prostitute isn't a criminal if the prostitute is a consenting adult, and it's beyond fucking stupid for the law to recognize her as such but still treat the John as if he's breaking the law.

Seems like NYC is just going hard on the feminist misandry shit lately (they can't specifically make something a crime for men and not women, but it's clear that's their aim w/ how some of these bills are coming together, whether or not it will have unintended consequences for women anyway):

It'll be some streaming shit like Stadia that will go nowhere.
If it's either of these, it'll fail hard.

If they just straight up buy Steam or GOG, or maybe Epic (not sure if that's even possible, depends how much richer Netflix is than any of them) and just keep on keepin' on, they could probably do fine. That's the American Way after all. Don't invent or innovate, just gobble up the company that did the work already.

https://www.startribune.com/derek-chauvin-charges-trial-george-floyd-murder-manslaughter-police-minneapolis-minnesota/600030691/

According to this, the "presumed" (typical/average) prison sentences for his charges are 12.5, 12.5, and 4 years, respectively. With the article noting that prosecutors are going for a harsher sentence on the first (Murder 2: Electric Bugaloo) b/c of how cruel the killing was.
So...even if the judge made them all in parallel and dismissed the aggravated charges, he SHOULD be in jail for 12.5 years.
But that's averages/guidelines, the article mentions no minimums so apparently there are none and he's probably getting way less because...cop.
So yeah, he'll be out in 5-10, easily.

Apparently he can appeal the ruling, too?

Yeah, he's not gonna be in jail for long...
Are there minimum sentence lengths for his charges? I would hope so. I guess only the Murder 2 matters, cause the judge is absolutely gonna have him serve all his sentences in parallel. Serving multiple sentences consecutively is for black and poor people.

Damn!
Murder AND manslaughter!
Get rekt, Chauvin!

Of course, the battle's only half over. Could still get like 5 years for literal murder or some other bs could happen.

think about what it means that Derek Chauvin was caught murdering a human being in high definition video and we're all sitting here nervous about what the verdict will be
Saw this below the twitter link, about sums up how insane it is this was legitimately in doubt to begin with.
And how insane it is that the "left leaning centrists" are gonna bemoan the verdict.

I thought Democrats were against regressive fiscal policies? Why do they keep pushing these handout programs where if you're poor, but not quite poor enough, you get fucked over and receive nothing?
Just give every adult the same amount, some extra for those w/ dependents, and get rid of all the other unemployment, SNAP, etc.... programs.
It'd be much fairer and probably save money with all the reduced administrative costs to manage all the programs and check eligibility, etc...

He admitted under oath in a court of law that obviously the things he says on air are bs and they obviously are such, and one would have to be a total fucking moron to believe it to be true. And the judge accepted that assessment.

So no, it's impossible for him to be the dumbest man alive.
Because every single person that listens to him is, objectively, dumber than he is.

If only people could get this worked up about alcohol, which is the root of so much violence, property destruction, rape, broken homes, and everything else in our society. In fact, if alcohol was gone, the rate of ALL violence -- not just gun violence -- and all crime would plummet. It's too bad that KBE's shitposting can't be converted to that more productive end!
Dude, I hate alcohol, too

But unfortunately it's super addicting apparently and people will be utterly shameless and vile just to "get their fix". The U.S. tried banning it, and it just created a massive crime wave.
I'd settle for us to just punish its use and abuse more.
Taxes on alcohol have plummeted over time, we should "sin tax" the shit out of it like we do w/ cigarettes.
Likewise, a history of excessive drinking should be a factor in health insurance premiums, since alcohol use is tied to so much mortality and diseases.
Punishment for drunk driving is a fucking joke in this country, too. If you climb into a vehicle to drive and are well over the legal BAC limit, that should be attempted murder. Full Stop. Unless you actually do kill somebody, then it should be literal murder. Premeditated.
I also think there's other ways where someone choosing to drink to excess allows them to be absolved of their own poor decisions by society, but we're outnumbered by the drinkers and even going into detail on those scenarios would just get me moderated.
