So, go to a state school like I did. Even if your state's peeled back funding over the years, it's still way cheaper.
No one's putting a gun to your head and making you choose a private college.

People choose the private college because of prestige or they love the fancy top-notch grounds and facilities (gee, I wonder how those get paid for?)
My sibling went to a $30K/year private college just b/c the campus was beautiful. The quality of academics and choice of degree were a distant 2nd in their mind.
My entire college cost equaled one year of my sibling's, and I got an Engineering degree. My sibling's still paying off loan debt and can only get min. wage jobs due to choosing a worthless degree, while still living w/ our parents. Graduated a decade ago.

In 2013, my bank asked if I'd talk to a financial advisor about putting some of my savings in a bond fund w/ PIMCO.
The guy was a good salesman, showed how in 25 years, there was only one year with a negative return and it was only -1%, the rest were all modestly good returns. Sick of the Fed fucking me over as a saver, I put $25K into it.
...Only for the bond market to plunge, hard. After the first week, I called and asked about options to bail on the fund. He told me I'd face an early withdrawal penalty for not keeping it in for a year, and that was my only option.
Another week of plunging rates and frantic unanswered calls before he finally answered, and this time told me I could move it to a money market account w/ PIMCO that earns basically 0% but at least is safe to avoid the fee. I lost $2K, and half of that was in between the first and 2nd call, when he straight up LIED to me.
I withdrew all of my money from that bank and refuse to ever bank with them again, and told them exactly why.

("Why didn't you just ride it out?"
Because that was unprecedented losses spurred once again by the Fed, my mortal enemy, and bonds aren't fucking stocks. They get like 3% a year, they can't just recover so easily from freaking 10%+ losses)

No, the payments are if anything an eye opener that wages are far too low. Do not blame Unemployment, a system meant to aid people, for wages that are far below poverty levels.
I'm not blaming the institution of unemployment.
I'm blaming the bloated addition that Congress applied to it.
Let's say someone made $15/hr (the Democrat rallying cry for min. wage), worked a 40 hour per week schedule, and the state pays 50% the normal wage in unemployment insurance (UI), which seems to be the typical range of percentage.

$15/hr * 40 hr = $600
$600 / 2 = $300 per week in UI normally

But wait... the feds are kicking in another $300, so now you're dead even!
Except...you can make this $600 per week doing nothing. You don't have to incur the costs of working (transit, more expensive meals on the go, maintaining a wardrobe of work uniforms, etc...). And the UI money can have all the taxes deferred until tax day the following year (and some states are making the UI boost tax exempt).

There is no "competing" with that. This is an unnatural temporary situation created by Congress. It's not enough for the wage to even equal UI. It has to be significantly higher than UI to be worth actually going to work, because (shocker) work fucking sucks and most people only do it b/c they need the money.

Try reloading the video page and posting the comment. (In general a good idea to compose long comments in notepad or something so that the webpage doesn't lose what you're writing on you.)
No, the comment shows on my end as being posted, and gives me the option to edit it.
But if I reload the page or edit it, it's gone. It's clearly the algorithm wiping it out.
I've even checked the # of comments at the top of the section and seen it decrease by 1 once I reload the page to find my comment gone.
And yeah, I try re-posting it. Happens every time. Sometimes I try to trouble shoot by pasting one line at a time to figure out which one(s) causes the problem, but that's really tiresome. Plus the more you re-post the same comment, the more likely youtube is to think you're a bot/spammer, so you just can't win.

that's probably the channel, not youtube. I pointed out that a certain channel was using DK Jungle Japes theme as their intro and my comments kept disappearing. that channel says that the delete anything that "isn't relevant to the video".
It's definitely not the channel doing it. It's happened to me on all sorts of channels, including some that are politically incorrect and don't give a shit about language used.
And again, if you look at the top comments in that very video, there are people using the word "murder", mentioning that the psycho w/ a gun "shot them in the back", and so on. So it's not even a uniform enforcement / tied to specific bad words (which really aren't, but you know...). Literally some users have more freedom of speech than others.

I'm so fucking sick of this shit! Most of my comments get erased from existence even though I don't swear or use hate speech or anything. They're not in any of the sections for comments under review or anything, they just cease to exist!
The above is the only visual proof I can even offer, by trying to edit the comment and getting the "Returned Error" red text when trying to save the edit (and then after canceling, comment goes bye-bye.
If I simply reload the video's page or switch the comments to list newest first, my comment is already gone.

I've dealt with this bs for months, but this one really irks me because there's NOTHING in there. Like, last year I had a post removed by the algorithm until I changed "censorship" to "sense of ship", which is already terrible. But...WTF? I even avoided saying "murder" despite one of the top comments saying it, another top comment had "shot in the back", etc... (the video is about Stand Your Ground laws)

Does anyone else have these problems w/ youtube?

I get what your saying, but a flat UBI is unfair to those people who do work, and I strongly feel that every american should share the workload. You can work more then 16 hours, but it should be required for you to work 16 hours if you want any benefits at all.
Why?
They get the UBI money, too.
They're working to afford above the minimum living standard. If they're fine growing old in a studio apartment eating cheap food and never traveling or splurging on anything, let them. If they want the "finer things", then they can work and earn them.
Seriously, how is UBI unfair to those who work?

No, I'd rather just give across the board UBI.
The point of working is to have more than the bare minimum to survive on, if you want like...a nice house, to go on trips, latest smart phone, etc...
it still encourages people to work.

If you just give UBI to people who work, then you have to leave the entire social safety net apparatus in place and it defeats the entire purpose.

Also, on your prior post...

wolfy42 posted...
Now if you work a 40 hour week at $15 an hour, you net a total of $600 a week as well! Woot your making as much as unemployment. Sadly that is the top end of the 15$ and under wages (almost half the population gets). in addition you pay taxes on all of it, meaning $2400 or so a year. You also have expenses you pay just to work (transportation costs, eating out more etc etc).

Basically for almost half the population not working right now is much better than working.
Exactly, this is why the UI boosts are insane, especially the $600 last year.
And it's not even a matter of equaling this new UI amount. It has to significantly exceed it to entice people to work vs. sit around at home.
The whole thing is terrible and grossly unfair to the people that were "essential" and had to work through the pandemic w/ no way out to get UI instead.
If Dems want to put an upward force on wages, then they should grow a fucking spine and just raise min. wage. Raising taxes on the high earners to make it more of a diminishing return to payout CEOs so much wouldn't hurt, either.

All jobs need to pay more honestly, across the board (until you are making 60k+ a year). Increasing min wage is BAD....very BAD.....you need to increase ALL hourly wages by the same amount (%)......and with that you also increase the base/min wage as well.

Just boosting min wage causes more skilled jobs that you need to be trained for, pay for licenses etc, to now just be making min wage as well. It's partially reponsible for it being so hard to find workers.
I completely disagree. Raising the minimum wage is vastly better and more fair than this UI boost. It provides an upward force for all wages, because now the low wage unskilled job is making as much as some of the jobs that require skills/experience, so then they demand more, and then those above them demand more, etc...
Just paying out shit loads of unemployment benefits those that get laid off, but fucks over those trapped in their jobs (you can't get UI if you quit your job, as the authors of the UI bills cheerfully put it)

First, pay more for basic jobs, so people doing them can afford to freaking live where the job is. This isn't freaking rocket science people. If it costs freaking $1200 to rent a 1 bedroom apartment, you need to pay enough for your employees to rent somewhere to live, buy food and have some money left over, and not require them to work 40+ hours to do it.
Sure. But this is a state issue. The cost of living varies so fucking wildly across the country, you can't just set the federal minimum based on California. There are plenty of areas where houses sell for $100K and you can live on less than $15/hr (if full time) just fine. Then there's NYC, Silicon Valley, D.C., etc... where you're effectively in poverty if you make the national median salary (somewhere in the $50K range, I think?).

By combining the two above suggestions, you would have far more people happy with their job. It would be WAY easier for you to get people to work for you, if you paid them freaking $20/hr and they only had to work 4 days a week (8 hours a day), then you have a part time position for the last 3 days (24 hours). That splits the week up perfectly, you have no days your business is closed, your employees are much happier and less tired, and your costs don't really go up at all compared to all the other expenses you have running a company.
See, this stuff is just ridiculous to me. I thought $15/hr was the Democrat rallying cry, but now b/c we're basing our standards on the ludicrous UI boosts, it needs to be even higher?

Freaking fast food etc give employees a 2$ an hour wage increase, but boost food prices by 33%. That is absolutely wrong as the additional cost for the employees is negligible (I'm looking at you Mc Donalds).

Total cost for 3 employees a day getting $2 more an hour (24 hour mc d's), is only freaking $144.....for the whole freaking day. If you charged 5 cents more per item you sold, you would make more then 5x that much extra money by the end of the day (easily).

The cost to pay employees is so little compared to everything else, that you could double the pay of ALL employees and barely affect the actual cost of product for your store (for most larger companies at least).
While it definitely shouldn't have lead to a 33% increase, wages are costly beyond just the amount the employee gets. Payroll taxes, social security taxes, medical plans and 401K contributions (probably doesn't apply to McD's), and so on... are all percentages based on the wage.
We're still in a very old system of taxation based on number of employees and wages. Which just doesn't work in the modern age of automation, outsourcing, global sales, corporate inversion, etc... The people that run their business like a traditional one (including McD's) get hammered in taxes. The super rich tech companies that claim their HQ is in a tax haven and ruthlessly slash their local work force in favor of bots/algorithms and offshore support in 3rd world countries make out like fucking bandits.

Because of this last year and a half, and the fact that many people have been getting over double the amount they need to survive every month, it's likely many have saved a significant amount, so even if you stopped the bonus unemployment right now, they might STILL not go back to work for quite awhile, until companies are FORCED to increase wages and do more to entice workers.
All this is doing long term is pushing those companies to try to automate as much as possible even faster, since now the cost savings from shedding employees is even higher.

We can even get rid of unemployment, food stamps, subsidized housing, etc to pay for it
Yes.
That's called UBI, and we should fucking do it. first we need to tax corporations to pay for it, shift from the current employment based taxation (payroll tax, income tax, social security tax, etc...) to one based on taxing companies for point of sale transactions (sell to an American, you eat our tax even if "my HQ is in Ireland, lulz").
Then taxes cease to discourage hiring people and even if we went full automation, we'd have the corporate taxes to pay for the safety net.

Hilariously, now the far left seem to think UBI is a right wing Milton Friedman idea and don't like that it replaces all the existing social programs, saying Yang's plan will be less benefits than unemployment, SNAP, "Earned" Income Tax Credit, etc...

But yeah, UBI encourages people to work since you get it whether you have a job or not. Unemployment when it's generous encourages people to not work.

Not sure what the job market is like now. When I graduated it was during the Great Recession and I struggled to find a job in the field for a while (I was in IEEE and remember being told that the unemployment rate for engineers had surged from 1% to 8%, just really bad times, even for tech....). If it's like that again now, you'll probably have people all around you saying to go back to school for your MS to "wait it out". DON'T DO THAT! I'm so glad I didn't listen to that advice.
If you get an engineering job, they'll pay your tuition to get a masters degree, don't pile on more debt just to get a more advanced degree you could've gotten for free later on, but still have no experience. Being basically debt free was invaluable to me, life would've been much harder struggling to find work if I had a sword of Damacles (debt that is nearly impossible to discharge) over my neck, too.

The statement itself is correct. Fight it in court, not w/ the police officer. You'll always lose the latter.

But not the application. Floyd was already cuffed and apprehended when Chauvin decided to murder him. Even if he had resisted earlier, he was cuffed by then. It's not the police's job to get "revenge" after the fact.

So in conclusion... fuck her.

The entire UI boost is basically a shameless attempt to artificially create "demand" for higher wages by Democrats.
Just pass a minimum wage increase if that's the goal! $15 is a stupid arbitrary number, but by all means match it to where it should be based on inflation, then index to inflation annually going forward. But doing that would require having a spine. Sneaky is easier.
The way they've gone about it is so crappy and unfair. There's lots of people in essential jobs that have had to keep working getting zero benefit from these handouts.

BlackScythe0 posted...
I mean it doesn't really work that way. The place I worked has drastically increased wages, like starting part time at $13 an hour. People will still chose to sit at home drawing unemployment because the extra benefits are enough for them to get by on, they really were over the top.
Yup. It's not enough to pay more than the unemployment.
Working sucks, and going to work adds expenses. The job has to pay significantly more money to get people to give up the easy money that requires nothing.
Again, if it were UBI it'd be different, then any wages would be on top of the handout, not instead of it.

The point of unemployment is to help people who can't find work.
Not to give them comparable wages while doing nothing.
And the working wage has to be significantly over the UI amount to entice people, since it's not worth an extra $100 or $200 a week to deal w/ 40 hours of labor, plus all the transportation and other costs of working, plus the fact you can wait a year to pay taxes on UI while as wages have it deducted up front.
These big boosts to UI regardless of the cost of living of the place is reckless. Montana I doubt is a high CoL area. An extra $300 per week (so min. $550 per week, from what I've seen in other topics, and potentially much higher) that you get "tax free" (for now...people don't tend to think long term) without having to do anything is difficult to compete with in these rural states. In California, maybe not.
That's the thing. CoL varies GREATLY.

He didn't drive like a reckless moron because he wasn't driving at all, according to a later portion of Ducky's story:
The way Duckbear framed it makes it unclear. Earlier in the post he said:

mrduckbear posted... It happened in Lake Worth Beach, Florida at noon when Justin cut in front of a truck with his Nissan Versa at a drive thru according to witnesses.

Boersma said he was in the car with his infant child and girlfriend as the gf was screaming "We have a baby in the car"

Boersma then armed himself with a gun and got out and SHOT him 3 times at Rosseti's back and then DRIVING AWAY.

But after Justin drove away when he shot Rosseti dead, he hit another car along the way and later said he fled so he could call his LAWYER before surrending.

I interpreted it as at the time of the shooting, it was only the murderer, his GF, and their kid in the car. Later on when the car was tracked down for the arrest, the other dude was driving it.
Hard to tell from Ducky's post if the driver was the same in each instance or not. Seemed like the friend wasn't there for the crime and thus not the driver.

Oh I thought Fatal was saying he couldn't find shirataki. Cauliflower rice is like everywhere nowadays. Also you can make it.
I would be interested in making my own, since "making" it seems simple enough. What I wasn't clear on was how to store it, long term.
I think you have to blanche cauliflower to freeze it or something...

It's even more ridiculous in states like California where a woman can put down a man's name as the father and he only has a certain amount of time to dispute that claim.
Shit, California, too?
I only heard of it happening in Michigan.

It's on my mental list of "reasons Michigan is a shit hole state that I refuse to ever visit or reside in".

is this like a speciality food from hipster health stores or something?
I've seen Aldi sell it, but (like a lot of stuff there) only seldomly.

My only actual experience w/ cauliflower rice is frozen dinners. Bird's Eye makes a beef & broccoli steamer bowl w/ it. And it was pretty good.

states and the fed should make this a condition of a legally recognized marriage.

A lot of shit that seems like common sense or should be the default is not, when it comes to marriage and other family law.

Like, paternity tests should be mandatory upon birth before assigning the father, yet it's something that has to be requested (nothing awkward about that!) and paid for as an option, and the default is to just assume the husband/BF is the dad. And once his name's on the birth certificate, even DNA proof it's not his kid often won't get him off the hook.

Women file for divorce like 3/4 of the time, so it's not shocking.
Men try to avoid it b/c the courts pillage them.

I don't get why rich dudes even get married, the average dude gets taken to the cleaners enough already, they're on the hook for 10's of millions of dollars or more.

At least she might not get alimony. Takes a special kind of stupid to claim the husband needs to keep working to support the wife b/c she can't work or whatever when they're already at/near retirement age anyway.

It's been 27 years, she'd get almost the same amount either way. I forget how rich he was in the early '90's, but he definitely was much richer post-marriage.

I still use Yahoo for email, it was my first non-student account and I just have too much stuff tied to it.
I used AOL Instant Messenger up until the day Verizon killed it, and mourned its loss.
And of course Verizon also ruined Tumblr and infamously cratered its valuation as a result.

So good to know that swath of destruction by Verizon all had a purpose for the long term. Makes it all worth it. How silly of me to ever question my corporate masters in the face of this rousing success.

Fuck Verizon

I use credit card for most stuff, but always try to keep $20-$50 in my wallet just in case. Would not go above that, b/c then it'd really suck if I was robbed or it was stolen, etc...

adjl posted...
Using credit/debit cards always results in some sort of surcharge for the business. Depending on the service they're using, that may be a percentage fee (in which case it doesn't matter how large the transaction is) or a flat fee. In the latter case, they lose a larger percentage of the transaction (it's not uncommon for it to be 10-15 cents, which is a huge chunk of $1-2 transactions), so it's courteous to not use cards for small transactions, at least when dealing with small businesses for which those fees are actually fairly significant.
True, but businesses charge you for that in their pricing regardless of what you pay with, so you may as well use a card and earn some cash back rewards and build up your credit score.
For small businesses and/or small amounts then yeah, use cash. Though usually in those situations they require it anyway. Pretty much every small shop I go to has a $10 or more min. purchase limit to use a card.

I like it.
It's literally just cauliflower, diced into tiny pieces.
It has little taste on its own, but does a great job of soaking up whatever sauce it's in and tasting like that.
It's got a slightly crisp (while still soft, overall) texture to it that rice doesn't have, and which I actually kind of prefer.
