My mate had a boys weekend away but just decided to go home at 6am instead of back to that Airbnb and they were together. True, but the other stuff of it not being a "new" virus and just modifying existing vaccines makes me feel better. Like it's not a brand new vaccine for a brand new disease they just pulled out of their ass in a few months.

And remember, this isn't a new virus. They already know plenty about this family of virus, so the harder part is figuring out the serotype which can be achieved via genomic testing. Once they have that there is software programs that can model the kind of proteins that will be attracted to and bind the antigen.

So the development wouldn't be like starting from scratch it's just refining it via in vitro and now in vivo testing.

I see too many people saying how they won't be the first guinea pigs to take the vaccine and that they'll check in after 6 months of waiting to see any possible side effects. Lol, like that sounds reasonable if you know nothing about trials but when you tell them that there's already 15000 people in the trials who were vaccinated 6 months ago and have reported no side effects then they spout some other nonsense like "Okay, but I still don't trust it"

I get that, my concern is side effects in 5-10-15 years.

My sister works in labs and she explained it to me that it's not a "new" vaccine just like COVID-19 isn't a "new" virus. It's a modified version of an existing vaccine for another strain of virus. Also, the entire fucking world is working on it. That's why it's safe. If she takes it, I'll take it.
