I feel like Ultron was a huge missed opportunity in terms of being a great villain. What we needed was the cold, uncaring, terrifying monster. That guy is a fucking nightmare if played right, but instead he was just making funny ha-has.

The worst part was that ALL the marketing made it seem like this is the direction they were going. It made it look like AoU was going to be a very dark movie with super high stakes and the most threatening villain so far in the MCU. And then what we got was, yeah. Well I guess technically we still had some high stakes, but it didnt feel like it damnit. This was the worst bait-and-switch in the MCU. Worse than IM3!

* Is this game too easy or what? Ghost weapons + slow-mo with the bow trivialize most fights, and it's not hard to keep a consistent stock of things. You can quickly upgrade your health and resolve to never have to worry about running out of health (plus healing is instant). And the parry window is MASSIVE, and you can mash L1 to get parries. I don't mind games being a bit on the easier side (I prefer it to a game being too hard), but you have too many overpowered tools.

So you never played the game on hard... err sorry, LETHAL mode.

Maybe. There is a lot of precedent in Tolkien that unless there is a huge power gap between two opponents, the fight will go to whoever is braver, more clever, less arrogant, etc. that day. This usually works in favor of the good guys, but the good guys can also get tripped up here if they are too full of themselves.

Oh, another note about Gandalf's power: longtime fans were offended at the scene where the Witch King (the leader of The Nine) breaks his staff. It never happened in the book, and Gandalf is so much more powerful than any of The Nine that even greenlighting the scene was apparently a surprising thing for Peter Jackson to do.

Yeah, in the books they never meet. Gandalf left the battle before then to save Faramir. In fairness to the Witch King, Gandalf contemplated their upcoming confrontation, and in his mind he still respected the Witch King as a formidable opponent. He wasnt like, lol that guy, Im gonna spank his ass.

Im not sure if you remember, but they do show Aragorn going to them before the battle, talking about their backstory, and enlisting their aid. Basically, they were former allies of Gondor that abandoned them in battle and were cursed as a result.

The director obviously had someone reigning her in on the first movie. But after the huge success of the first movie (which was a bit overrated) and the huge praise heaped on her specifically (once again, a bit overrated) she obviously was allowed to do whatever the fuck she wanted with this one. And this is what we got.
