I feel like you reach Jump Showdown often enough to get a feel for the mechanics. Also "best jump showdown" player likely doesn't mean someone who never messes up a jump. It likely means someone who will definitely put you in the drink if you are sharing space. --- |

(well, Ermine, Han and I had a TRIPLE crown victory on Hex the other day, but those situations are rare) The game only has a few mechanics. You can move, you can jump, you can grab. When you are grabbing people on rollout to knock them off you aren't "griefing" them, you are playing the game. When you are decreasing the amount of people who can finish on slime climb you aren't "griefing" them, you are playing the game. For all you know the guy you make lose on slime climb might be the worlds best Jump Showdown player and you are putting yourself in a more optimal position to win. Also depending on where the body-blocker is standing it is possible to get over their head, or to just land in front of them and plant yourself. It's not an unbeatable tactic. --- |

Which let's face it, sucks. But I got a lucky start, people were dropping to the lower levels like flies and it was just me and another guy who were on the same level still pretty near the top, with a decent number of hexes. Enough that we could comfortably last longer than the clusterf*** below us and be positioned for guaranteed top 2. Instead this moron just RUNS. Not *at* me, because that would make sense. At least the play there is "eliminate the only other guy on this level and have enough leftover for 1st", but he just runs EVERYWHERE to eat ALL the hexes we both had. There was just 1 large chunk on our level that would have been more than enough. But no, he eats everything and because it was such a large game of hex there is nothing but swiss cheese beneath us and when we both fall to our deaths there are still 4-5 people hanging on to their (very) small islands. All of whom we would have easily outlasted if this guy wasn't an idiot. In retrospect my play would probably have been to try to cut him off and try to ragdoll him with a dive or a grab and hope I could miraculously get to my feet in time to not fall, but he just did so much damage so quickly to our chances that I'm not sure if it would have been enough. And yeah, he might have got the best of me when we ran out of our own hexes, but all he had to do was recognize that we were in a GOOD spot and play for the head to head. -_- --- |

If you are fast you can identify real doors for the previous 2 rows during the intro as well, but it's not hard to do it in real time when you are practiced so as long as you are near the front of the pack heading into the final 3 rows there is absolutely no reason to bonk. If you lose track of if you are at the final 3 rows or not just look at the color of the bottom triangle. On the solvable doors it is pink, on the actually-random doors it is white. Once you eliminate bonking at the end there is no reason to get eliminated on this map. --- |

Round 1 will end with 39-43 Many of those results have the possibility to result in another 'stage 1' which will reduce it further to 29~ or so, and then if the next round has a set amount of eliminations (Rollout, Jump Club, etc) you'll end up in the mid/high teens which will either be even (fall ball) or odd (tip toe) before a final. It's only if you get a round that doesn't have predetermined eliminations (slime climb, block party) where MAYBE they stars will align and result in something like a Rock n Roll. But it feels like you have a 2/3 chance to take a "normal" route through the games, and then a 1/3 chance to have a 50/50 chance to get something different, but you might just end up on the same games as before anyways. --- |
