I could understand if your parents had severe health concerns or something, but it comes off all the time like you're the one dependent on them. It's one thing to live with your parents, but to never buy groceries or anything? Raises huge red flags dude. You've been gainfully employed for years, in a pretty demanding field relatively speaking, but haven't changed your life situation one bit. This is isn't something I would think of as a thing to "cope" with but rather to seek help about why I consider the situation normal. It's not normal.

That doesn't really sound to blme like an existence that benefits anyone in the situation. Spending money isn't necessarily going to make your life better but hoarding it sure doesn't either.

I know you know this though, and probably have some kind of chronic depression issues that make this easier said than done, so I don't really know what else to tell you besides seek therapy.

I never know what exactly I might want when I go to the store, so I like to walk the aisles. I'm sure you can do that digitally but it isn't the same. And it's nice to get out of the house once and a while

I think you can be aware of them and still eat animal products, it doesn't make you a hypocrite or something. Being a hypocrite would be more like if you adamantly told people not to eat it but still ate it yourself.

Just focus on reduction if you aren't ready to go all the way. It'll probably be better for your health anyway. I'm sure like most things some is fine in moderation, sure. Nutrition info is one of the most confusing things out there, there's a lot of contradictory info and competing agendas, and even studies that are made with unbiased intentions end up contradicting each other all the time.

Why do people always get so defensive and try to "gotcha" vegetarians with stuff like this? Repressed guilt? I mean the guy wasn't shaming omnivores over that stuff, just stating that it's a big motivation. And I'm an omni myself to be clear, but I have tried to limit my consumption more.

I can understand this kind of response if a vegan is calling you a horrible monster or whatever but I think if we could all be more chill and thoughtful from both perspectives it would go a long way

Government salaries aren't really that high imo given the area they work in and the unique demands of the job like travel, etc. The problem is the amount of money they get from kickbacks. It's a livable salary plus has plenty of great benefits, nobody should need that extra on the side to begin with. Many are just using the office to get as rich as possible and that's horribly wrong.

One of his houses was inherited from his dead MIL and another is a vacation cabin, or something like that. Maybe those were both, but still. Three houses is not necessarily some indicator of extravagant wealth. Again, his worth is in the low millions. Plenty of people in washington own houses that are individually worth more than his three combined. None of the numbers actually point to this being the huge "gotcha" that you think it is.

Dude like anybody who worked til they're 80 with many years at the salary of high level government jobs would be worth $3 million. It's very much in a similar vein to Returns, just much larger levels from what I remember. I was disappointed that Returns had bonus rooms that were much more like DKC1 and IIRC that didn't really change for TF. I mean yeah there are secret levels in both, but I wish they would've gone more towards the DKC2 lost world approach of cumulative unlocks rather than having to find specific secrets

IIRC, HDDs have better data retention strictly speaking, but since you can run into issues with mechanical part failure that might not be much of an advantage to the average consumer. Like you could recover the plate with a new motor but who really wants to do that? It's possible though that even factoring mechanical failures they might have a higher lifespan that SSDs, I don't really remember and this is stuff you can look up on your own if you really want to know.

Personally I've never had any HDDs die on me so I feel like your dad must either have bad luck or is abusing them. For external/storage drives I personally think HDDs are a better option, more bang for the buck, and you don't really huge advantages with SSDs like you do for putting OS/programs on them.

Even if you could email him I don't know what it would accomplish. If something really bad happened, he's not going to see it. If he just decided to leave and he does see it, he'll probably just be mildly annoyed and move on.

It's nice to have some level of basic concern about your fellow man but I don't see why it's really anyone's business what happened to him. As far as I'm concerned when someone is gone, sure I don't hope something really bad happened, but unless I was close friends with them it's kinda no difference to me why they left. I think PO would feel the same way himself, and if there was anyone who he thought needed to know he'd give them the avenue to find out, but he doesn't exactly seem the type interested in making close friends here.

Why not? I don't think anyone really plans to spend the rest of their life here, they could leave at any time. Plenty have and most of the time they do it very unceremoniously. PO certainly doesn't seem like the type who would make it a big thing.
