Seeing the spectrum of how people you know age through their 20s is interesting. Some people look exactly as you remember and then there are the ones who got bald at 25.

I skipped on my reunion, kinda wish I went, but I was at a pretty low point confidence-wise at the time. At the same time I don't think I really missed much, it's just kinda fun to see how people change over ten years and whatnot.

I only talk to one person from HS still and he was pretty much the only person I talked to even immediately after it, so yeah... didn't make the greatest of friends there

Are there even 30 year old juggalos? I mean I know of course there are but they don't wear all the merch on a daily basis and make it their main identity like the ones I knew in high school, right? I don't mean that to rag on them specifically but tons of groups in high school are all about having an exaggerated identity.

I feel like the camera in Sunshine might honestly be worse. It easily gets stuck and doesn't go where you want it to, like if there's a wall in the way. I think that happened in 64 too but the levels were generally more open, so there weren't as many places for that to happen. I feel like the camera is better about automatically following you in 64 as well, which was probably more of an afterthought in Sunshine since it's free range.

I'll piss off some people by also saying that Galaxy wasn't really that great either, but at least the issues I had with that game weren't usually controls issues, but rather its repetitiveness and little "wow" factor. It's hard to express. Maybe I just grew out of caring about 3D Mario.

It's been a while so I don't remember it a ton, but I kinda feel the opposite about it. It's almost too much wow factor, like they were constantly trying to introduce some big new concept or setpiece. 64 and Sunshine are much more repetitive, but in a way that's mostly a strength. I did enjoy Galaxy a lot but there are so many fleeting moments that they don't stand out the same way. It doesn't really help that Galaxy 2 is pretty indistinguishable from 1 in my mind other than I know 1 didn't have Yoshi.

I got all 120 in 64 when 3D All Stars came out but it has its share of annoying ones. It's still a lot easier than doing it in Sunshine though. I don't see the point of doing that even once

I just finished replaying it, it's not a bad game by general standards, but compared to other 3D Mario games it sucks so bad. So many "what the hell were they thinking" moments in it

Summer was fine when I could ride my bike, but without nice weather I don't really know what to do. I probably have to settle for doing stuff at home but I like to get out of the house to work out

That's true, but there are tons of different types of plastics and I don't know if very many, if any of the plant based ones are viable for major commercial applications. I could see us getting there with time though

That sounds like something that could take a long time to happen. I know people want to move away from plastics and it would be nice to get to that point before plastic eating bacteria is an issue, but on the other hand some things are hard to imagine not being plastic. Even if we were able to meet the demand of making all those things out of alternative materials, plastic does have plenty of advantages for certain applications.

Don't microplastics come as a result of breakdown of larger plastic? So wouldn't it still be worthwhile to go after the larger pieces and prevent further release of micro? I guess that depends on if it really makes a difference or if we're already past the point of no return.

Still just can't fathom how Mars colonization is the best idea. Even if the other two ideas here are a bit of a pipe dream I think almost anything here on earth is a better use of our resources. Feels like people are a little too caught up in the sexiness of space futurism.

I live in Colorado but I've never been lol. I'm just not a big concert goer and am not that knowledgeable about contemporary popular music. I know they have some older acts too but I don't know how badly I want to see someone whose prime was 20-40 years ago, even if I like their stuff.

I've been to the park and amphitheater during general open hours though. They're cool but yeah it's not like going to the national parks in Utah.

You're putting words in my mouth at this point, dude. All I'm saying is I'm not going to go around acting like some sort of "free thinker" like you seem to think you are. You realize that most of humans' knowledge is formed by information they pass along from other people, right? You can get a lot out of observation but when it comes to stuff like this, you and I both only have access to secondary and tertiary sources. So it really annoys me when people try to act like they know a lot when they're all dipping into the same pool, just from different ends.

As for colonizing Mars or whatever, I'm not going to say it's impossible, but if we were able to ever do that, certainly we could invest our time and money and brainpower into much better things. And it fails to address the root problem that a lot of our existential threats are a result of mankind's own greed and hubris; what is to stop us from falling victim to that on a future home? Even in the case of something natural like an asteroid it's going to be much more practical to find a way to mitigate that risk while staying on earth rather than try to move populations tens of millions of miles.

I'm all for space exploration but not for throwing all of our faith into ideas that aren't going to come into fruition and fail to address many other problems we face

Correct I am in some way parroting opinions I've seen before, which I perceived to be formed largely on facts. Nothing can be perfect, but what do you do to formulate opinions? Do you personally follow Elon around and go visit his companies to see the day to day? What Elon Musk doesn't realize in his quest to colonize and terraform Mars, is that while building colonies and domed cities might be a viable way to colonize the planet, he's not gonna get past that since terraforming Mars is physically impossible due to the lack of Carbon Dioxide, and more importantly the lack of a good magnetosphere, which allows the planet to be pounded by solar radiation and storms that constantly hits the surface. Which, even now, is being stripped away by the suns solar storms.

I understand putting bases and and small cities on Mars so humanity can have other places to launch rockets and such, but economically, Mars isn't gonna offer much more that. Mars wont be a earth-like prosperous world like we see in science fiction. Its simply flat out physically impossible.

I don't think his ideas really even need that level of scrutiny. To scrutinize them imply that he actually cares about colonizing Mars or solving the climate crisis or whatever bullshit. All he really wants to do is make more money, and he's got a pretty solid grift going of pretending to be the world's foremost innovator, having a bunch of people eat it up to boost his profile, then securing a ton of government funding to waste

Going to break character and say you sound like you have no idea what you're talking about. First of all, most of the people who dislike Elon aren't exactly fans of any other billionaires either. And if he does receive more ire it's a reaction to all the praise he gets. People act like he's some huge benefit to humanity but he just throws a bunch of pie in the sky ideas at the wall and people eat it up. But they usually fold under even the most basic of scrutiny and either never come to fruition or end up being nothing like the initial promise.

Lots of billionaires do evil shit, yes, but like Apple, Microsoft, Amazon... these are useful products. I'd even argue Twitter and Facebook despite that I generally have a much more negative opinion of those. Paypal is useful but it's low on the list of Elon things people even care about. Tesla has a miniscule market share and is priced at luxury levels, it's not that useful to average people. SpaceX? Lol. For all the hype over private space exploration they get a ton of government handouts and work with nasa a lot anyway.

And of course, Elon does a ton of evil shit too btw

NH was the first one I played, and I was kind of skeptical going in about the idea of something so easy and boring, but it certainly hooked me.

Now I have the opposite problem where I'm like, every game is so hard and intimidating. I've played several games since ACNH came out to be clear, but it feels like it still doesn't click yet.

Not every game should aspire to be like AC by any means, but it's kinda funny how it's pretty much axiomatic that games are supposed to be hard or at least annoy you a little bit

I mean, I sorta feel what you're saying. I wouldn't say there is necessarily anything unusual with those behaviors by themselves, but you definitely start to notice with certain people when it feels like a pattern. But I don't think that means they have a disorder

Elon Musk is what happens when a software engineer thinks they're a scientist.

In software, you generally think of a goal you want to accomplish, and that goal can be basically as ambitious as you want it to be, and you'll get it done with enough man hours. With science, you don't have a goal, you just slowly improve out the existing technologies we have.

Elon Musk gives himself a goal and attempts to reach it by putting enough man hours in, whether that goal is a space elevator, a rocket taxi, a vacuum tube subway, but he doesn't actually care if what he's doing is physically possible. He goes, "oh I just need to make it physically possible", but technology advancement is less about ambitious ideas and more about finding chemical reactions in a lab that engineers can use to their advantage in ways they hadn't even thought about.

All his ideas are crippled by very fundamental concepts. "Steel rusts", or "tunnels are very expensive to build", or "steel isn't as powerful as you need it to be for this", which is ultimately the reason 90% of his ideas have not been done.

But he's good at getting state grants and wasting tax dollars on projects that won't work.

I can't relate to everything you said, but it seems pretty normal to me. It's pretty common IME for people to say stuff like "let's hang out again sometime" and they do mean it but it can just be awkward trying to initiate that conversation and plan stuff out so it doesn't happen. Or maybe you do actually think their hobby is neat but you realize later on that you don't have the time to get deeply involved in it.

Something I never understood in the Simpsons is that Homer and Marge are supposed to be mid/late 30s but their eldest child is 10. I thought Marge got knocked up shortly after HS or at least they imply that they weren't really ready, but they would've been dating for like ten years at that point

I don't know about that, but just the concept of how things sound in my head in general is interesting to me. Like you can "hear" words you read/think about, but I couldn't begin to describe what "voice" they're in, if there even is one at all.

I wonder also how that works for lifelong deaf people. How do you even teach someone the sounds of words and letters without vocalizing them, let alone how does somebody with no concept of hearing understand them?

My main problem with Skyrim is the same complaint I have with most RPGs: It takes too fucking long to do anything. I'd rather just find items that upgrade me rather than slowly gain levels and then have to choose which skill trees I want to invest in to actually get some new ability.

Oh and most of the dungeons were boring, just walk through this linear ugly brown cave with laughable or no puzzles and kill a bunch of undeads. Would've been cool if you got some cool and unique upgrade at the end of every dungeon, but I understand for many people that's not really the point of these kind of games.
