In CoD I do, because I am really good at it. I feel embarrassed if my k/d is less than a 2.0

No. Even when I was the lead priest with my World of Warcraft guild, I was mindful not everyone has the time/capability to research the material and absorb it. We were not a bleeding edge raiding guild and various guild members had families so it was understandable we would not be pushing for server first boss kills. I offered my advice and opinion as a healer based on my personal experience but I did not expect other priests to play the same as me.

EDIT: I have had nerg rage moments with some single-player games though. (i.e. playing Final Fantasy Tactics and my characters missing at 95% hit chance). I am sure others who have played X-Com can relate.

serious in the sense that I try to win, but not far enough to learn stuff like frame windows or wavedashing and such

That's no excuse, since there are definitely non-skill related games... well, ok, you use brain skill instead of physical skill 'cuz I mean stuff like Chess.

Chess doesn't interest me.
Path of Exile does.
The problem is that I will never have the backbone to put in the hours required to get the goals I want. There are people out there who are putting 18 hours a day into the game. I cannot fundamentally compete.

I mean, I respect the content and try to play like someone who is competent, and like to fulfil various goals like numerous collections or achievements beyond what is common, but I'm not a raging hardcore gamer.

Nope. Had to leave a clan full of friends in my favorite game because they started taking clan wars way too seriously and making it a hugh pressure thing. It wasn't fun anymore and I haven't particpated in clan wars for nearly two years now. Just stick to normal PvP matches.

In FFXIV, there used to be 95% cap-offs for same-level item gathering, like a level 70 Botanist would at most ever see a 95% chance at successfully gathering a zelkova log. Lots of people got to experience multiple misses on such a gathering node, and it was infuriating to receive the "You obtain nothing" message three or four times in a row.

I said yes but it really depends on the game and how much I want to get into it. I'd say most games I'm not that serious about but if it's one I really like, I'll definitely try hard and look up optimal strategies and practice and stuff.

i used to, but not anymore. i was a pretty avid raider in WoW back in the day, in one of the best guilds on my server and we had a few server firsts, stuff like that. it was pretty cool and i have plenty of good memories of that time but it was just exhausting, i don't have the time or patience for it anymore
