In gaming, I do actually think the culture moves a bit faster than it did in the 90's - the technology certainly isn't, but back then you could have a game that was 5 years old and it could still be the big thing. I think two things were true:

1) There weren't quite as many games coming out and the base library of games that existed was much smaller, so things stayed relevant for a bit longer
2) The lack of internet meant that time passed at a different pace

I think social media really accelerates the rate at which we consume stuff - the hot new shit gets memeified to death in a matter of months until nothing but bones is left and seems like old news sooner than it would have 20+ years ago, where it was still possible to have not just you but your entire friend circle newly discover something that was already years old.

Although, that said, I'm still newly discovering stuff that's years old today, too, and there were fast-moving fads back in the day as well. I think the internet just makes things seem a lot different.

Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. It does have some good tracks, but the overworld (on land) theme and the dungeon theme were so pathetic and constantly reused that it made the whole soundtrack seem cheap. For a Zelda game it was just awful, and I can't think of any other game I've played recently that did that poorly in the soundtrack department.

Yeah, I do agree that the lack of any price paid for the good ending is sort of weird. Nobody even had to like, learn a hard lesson or anything - it was just 'lol we used time travel to solve everything' and pretty much every conflict the story had was totally erased, which is funny for a story that otherwise had a fair bit of darkness to it.

I felt like the ending was a little too clean, but it's not a bad thing for a game to have a 100% happy ending. Extremely good twists - I love that Sissel being the cat is a fucking mindblowing twist, but just as you're processing that, it hits you with the 1-2 punch that Ray is Missile, which is even more shocking imo.

The thing I find frustrating about this whole "defund the police" thing is that it's basically a meme - not a meme in the 'it's not meant to be taken seriously' sense, because it is, but it's a meme in the sense that it's just sort of a slogan that bubbled up out of the rising anger at police brutality, it's not like it's some kind of specific goal that everyone signed off on, sent to the democratic party, and then they ran on it, or something. The simple fact of the matter is that fox news is still #1 in controlling the political narratives in this country, and if they want to make it seem like "defund the police" is all the democrats want to talk about, they will do so, and it doesn't really matter whether or not it's a serious policy proposal. And that's enough to get the establishment democrats all uppity at "the left" even though we have basically nothing to do with the fact that the democratic party isn't in control of their own narrative. Blame fox news, you dumbasses, not us.

Like, in the general sense, I agree that voting for Kiyo at that time is not the correct process, even if it has the right result. But in the context of like, Shuichi teaming up with Kiyo to argue that they shouldn't vote to execute Kiyo, Shuichi is just not on the right side here - they really could have just voted and it would have worked out. In terms of process, Shuichi's right, but the other side is right that voting Kiyo would result in a win and Shuichi is HELPING THE MURDERER filibuster that.

"Vote now" is bad process but correct result. While "don't vote yet" is better process, it ultimately leads absolutely nowhere, and it is clearly based on the presumption that it was not Kiyo who did the kill. I mean, you have Kiyo on your side and he's just flatly full of shit. Shuichi's process was good, but in my opinion he takes the L on that one.

I don't know for sure if Biden will completely cave into R pressure or not - honestly, I legit have no idea how much he believes in reaching across the aisle and how much of a spine he has or not - but I wouldn't look to his public speeches for evidence either way. The public likes bipartisanship and it's what they want to hear. Biden has to deliver that message. Bernie would have delivered the same message.

I really feel like the game should have given Kokichi more credit in the end, he's kind of the MVP

I posted in the spoilers topic about how I really think that 3-5 should have ended with Kokichi's plan working, getting everyone to vote wrong and start the execution only to have Kaito pop up, totally ruining the premise of the game and throwing it into chaos, which causes the audience to make Keebo go crazy instead of having his antenna clipped. This could also make Tsumugi have to force her hand in order to keep things on track and have to show her hand, causing her defeat in 3-6. I dunno, Kokichi's plan is just the most interesting thing in this game, and he should have won, even if it takes Shuichi's effort to get it over the finish line.

I love Tsumugi. Yeah, I think they should have done way more with her character earlier, they made her too bland and uninteresting, but the villain reveal is A+. The idea of a DR-fanboy cosplayer villain who isn't actually competent is hilarious, and while I don't think the execution was perfect in every way, I was still absolutely reveling in evil-Tsumugi the entire chapter. Also, the fact that there was actually a mastermind and that it was someone in the group the whole time made DRV3 a lot more fun imo, since both DR1 and DR2 lacked that sort of exciting reveal, although again the reveal would have been more exciting if Tsumugi had more impact.

This reminds me of how annoyed I am that they also never used the mechanic where you actually get to choose who to vote to execute in DRV3. The fact that they quietly slipped that in there immediately set off warning bells for me that the game was going to use this in a clever way at some point but they never did, aside from the one time you have to choose not to vote but that wasn't very clever at all.

I still think that 3-5 should have come down to a split decision where the cast goes 50/50 on Kokichi/Kaito and your vote is the one that decides it, and you aren't sure as the player which option is correct

I made this comparison on discord but this election is basically Link vs Draven. Draven is Trump, for obvious reasons. Link is Biden: someone the contest stans aren't really all that excited for, but who suddenly everyone can rally behind in the event of an existential threat to the very foundation of what we're about. And of course just the comparison of a really close poll and these two combining for a ridiculous total of votes.

The difference of course is that Link won this time.

Okay so something I want to address that's been bugging me is that people keep pointing out "people in Florida liked 15 dollar minimum wage but in California prop 22 didn't pass!" as if they are equivalently progressive policies and that this means something. It's a completely stunted way of looking at things.

People are, historically, really really bad at voting correctly on propositions, referendums, initiatives, whatever they're called in your state. Most people don't really do the research to figure them out and, if they don't think it affects them, they don't really care too much. They are extremely vulnerable to propaganda that makes them misunderstand the issues, and the more it seems like it's going to rock the boat the more likely they are to vote against it.

I can't be certain, of course, but if I had to guess, the reason $15 minimum wage passed is because it's really clear and easy to understand the stakes. Most people DO want to be paid better wages, and while it is possible to spin this as "oh, businesses won't be able to stay open or offer you jobs if they have to pay you more money," that is ultimately the harder and more complicated sell. 15 dollar minimum wage just sounds good on its face.

Whereas, prop 22 is more complicated and requires greater nuance to understand the implications. Again, most voters are stupid. Prop 22 is almost impossible to get passed if Uber and Lyft want to spend money on ensuring that the campaign against it gets seen by everyone, and there's simply no equivalent opposition to make sure that yes shares peoples' brain space. It isn't self-evident like a minimum wage increase. The two simply cannot be compared.
